Report of the Trustees for the Year Ended 31 March 2021
The Trustees who are also directors of the Charity for the purposes of the Companies Act 2006, present their report with the financial statements of the Charity for the year ended 31 March 2021. The Trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective | January 2015).
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Objectives and aims
The principle activity of the charitable company continues to be the delivery of a specialist clothing adaptation service for people with physical or learning disabilities and/or mobility impairments, on the basis of promoting independence and wellbeing.
Through recognising that reliance on others in terms of managing clothing can restrict access to choice and opportunity, Dressability aims to enable our clients to see beyond their disabilities, through providing access to clothing discretely adapted to minimise physical difference and accommodate functional or sensory needs.
Public benefit
The Trustees have paid due regard to the Charity Commission's guidance on public benefit in deciding what activities the Charity should undertake. The Trustees consider that they have acted in the public benefit and have discharged their responsibilities accordingly.
Volunteers
During the last year our volunteers have been unable to come to our offices although the majority of them have continued to support us by working from home.
Over the summer we were approached by our local Rotary group who advised that the Breast Cancer Unit had a real need for fabric drain bags for women post-surgery. Our volunteers designed and made two batches of fifty bags in fabrics and designs that any lady would be proud to wear.
This year as before our volunteers have engaged with de-branding of garments given to us when local companies cease trading or change their logos. By removing the identifying branding new clothing can be offered to organisations supporting our homeless people.
In collaboration with our local women's refuge our volunteers cut and sewed around one hundred Christmas sacks Which were donated free of charge to local families in need.

Dressability Report of the Trustees for the Year Ended 31 March 2021
ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE
Charitable activities In the last financial year, 259 garments were adapted on behalf of 92 clients who were able to access our socially-distanced outside drop off and collection service. We were also able to continue with our postal service which is offered to clients who live further away - whilst advice by telephone or email has still been available to assist people with disabilities and/or dressmakers to pinpoint effective adaptations, discuss methods and source appropriate haberdashery items.
Determined that our plans to extend our reach should not be derailed by the Covid crisis we have had to find new ways of reaching our clients. Aware that the three dimensional character of clothing adaptations can be difficult to capture in a photograph, our dressmakers have been hard at work producing the "Dressability Collection" - a bespoke selection of samples in smart, navy kit bags which can be used by organisations offering support to people with disabilities and/or long term health conditions, to explain and showcase the benefits produced by our specialist work. Each kit contains several examples of easy-fastening ideas and gives people opportunity to try out potential solutions and decide what might work best for their particular circumstances. During the last financial year we have been able to alter and adapt 57 sample garments and have delivered 7 kit bags to local healthcare organisations.
During the first period of lockdown our dressmakers used their talent with needle and thread to help to address the shortage of Personal Protection Equipment. We resisted the opportunity to furlough our staff and focused on producing over 4,500 items of PPE which was be distributed to relevant organisations (hospital, hospice, G.P surgeries, health centres, Women's Refuge, Night Shelter, care homes and many more),
We continue to support our core clients who pay a small, heavily subsidised fee (usually between £5.00 and £15.00), our pricing structure remains deliberately flexible to allow the complexity of the work involved/situation of our service users to be reflected in the cost of an adaptation,
We proactively maintain excellent links with other charities and support groups to ensure key communities are aware of our work and during the last year we have connected with three different charities to provide new projects in our local community.
Fundraising activities
Whilst our client fees and the receipt of donations from people and companies with a connection to our service form a key proportion of our income (approximately 10% in the last financial year), we continue to rely primarily on the support of grant making organisations and receive no statutory funding.
As one of only two charities in the UK offering a clothing adaptation service, and based on demand/feedback from service-users indicating the real difference made by our work, our new 5 year business plan sets out our strategy to extend our reach, We intend to achieve this through offering delivery of our service on a clinical basis, allowing people Opportunity to access clothing advice and/or a garment drop-off/collection facility whilst using other day care services/support groups. We are delighted to have received confirmation of multi-year National Lottery funding to facilitate this service.
FINANCIAL REVIEW
Principal funding sources
The charity receives funds by way of grantmaking trusts and donations. During the year under review major grant funders of more than £5,000 accounted for around 53% of our income.
Reserves policy
The Trustees continually monitor the level of unrestricted funds held in reserve and intend to maintain reserves at a level which is equivalent to one year's running costs in order to provide financial stability and opportunity to develop Dressability's principal activity in accordance with our Business Plan.
STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT
Governing document
The Charity is controlled by its governing document, a deed of trust, and constitutes a limited company, limited by guarantee, as defined by the Companies Act 2006.
The Company is governed by its Memorandum and Articles of Association.
