## **Chairman's Report**

## **Friday 17 October 2025**

As is tradition, our first fund raiser of 2024 was the Christmas Jumper Sale, this is such a well received event and many parents are very happy to see the sale, not only for the environment but also the pocket. Christmas jumpers are worn only once or twice and everyone looks for something, we hope to add more in 2025.

Elfridges planning started a little later this year and boy did we feel it. The cost increase on items from 2023 – 2024 was very visible. This meant extra work for Claire and I researching and visiting additional stores. New to this year was a Pet purchase, which went down a storm. This is our biggest fundraiser of the first term and it never disappoints us in terms of engagement from ALL. The children had a great time selecting gifts for loved ones and everyone who helped certainly got into the spirit and was dressed very Christmassy. With nearly 1000 gifts ordered and wrapped, thanks to our great army of elves, and our in-house Santa visit, we were able to raise around £4000. This is our biggest workload event, and whilst we have considered stopping it, the children love it so much we could never.

The next two events were the sponsored bounce and valentines disco. Both were a huge success… All the children had a good bounce and giggle during the event and parents, often commenting on do you count the bounces? Yes we do! The Valentines day disco, we sold 325 tickets and raised £1,625. All the children had a great time and the entertainment from Moji is perfect, they adapt the disco for each year group. We have had comments from parents that they are too short, and it’s not helpful, but there really is no way around this.

Other events that we supported through the year include:

- Summer prom pimms and strawberries

- Second hand uniform sales

- Parish Gift day donations

- Donuts for Dads - Fathers Day

- 100 Club

- Various raffles

- Break the rules day, pj day, crazy hair day

- Refreshments at Nativities and coffee mornings

- Sports day – bacon rolls and refreshments

- Tea towels

- Christmas cards and gifts

All these events are great opportunities to engage with families and raise smaller but important amounts of money when they are added together!

Our biggest money raiser, the Summer Fete, was in full swing at a slightly earlier time of year! We raised an incredible £10,000 on the day of which £8,287 was profit! The best part of the day was seeing so many of the St Peter’s Community out in full force to support the school. However, the increasing lack of support with the running of this event, leads to the same few people getting burnt out and disheartened. Everyone wants their child to attend a great school and the money The Friends raise goes towards many of the extra activities that the children get to do. It would be great if this year we can get a communication out to parents and carers reminding them of this. Dispite this, we had a fantastic Summer Fete with some old faithful stalls such as the sweet tombola, raffle and inflatables with some new events such as a coconut shy, hair braiding and the farm. Again, we outsourced stalls such as a coffee van, an ice cream van, as well as our very popular Fire Engine viewing from the Billericay Fire Station team. The BBQ meat was from our local butcher at South Green, support local businesses. The live entertainment organised by Suzanne Maddock, created the perfect back drop to the day with music provided by teachers, pupils and parents from the school alongside Bailar dance school showcasing their talents. This year our Summer Fete committee was made up and run by year two parents, as planned this is now how we will continue going forward. It gives fresh ideas from people who may not have been previously involved and the workload for events can then be more evenly spread over the life cycle of being at the school.

In total this year we have raised over £20,000 and have already put the money to good use. A big project that we set out to do at the start of this academic year was to provide the school with some new iPads and charging stations, the school have created a virtual IT hub and as technology and needs evolve money has been used to update this IT suite. We supported in house events such as African Drumming, Online Safety by the two Johns and many, many more.

I would very much like to take this opportunity to thank the parents of St Peter’s school who without their support, whether that be giving up their time, offering skill sets or financial generosity, none of this would be possible. In particular, I would like to thank Rebecca Grant who has stepped down as Secretary, Helen Nicholson and Amy Estrada our trusted treasurers, who for the last two years have taken on all the challenges with the banks to get money paid in and out! It is a thankless task, that takes up a lot of time and none of this would have been possible without them.

I would also like to thank Mrs Parker, Mrs Walker, Mrs Foster, Dave our fantastic caretaker and all our lovely office staff and all the teachers at St Peter’s for their support and guidance with all our endeavours.
