Davison Worthing Youth Concert Band

Report of the trustees for the year ending December 2023

Chair’s report

Continuing as Chair this year it has been successful. The residential weekend was a great success in bringing both the junior and senior bands together to practice in preparation for the Spring and Summer concerts. The concerts were met with support from family, friends and the wider band community.

Our volunteers

The band relies on voluntary help to assist the weekly band practices as well as the residential weekend and the performances which the volunteers assist in supporting the young musicians and stewarding the events. We wish to thank our loyal volunteers for their continued help and support.

Review of activities and achievement

The Chair reported on the events had taken place in the past year.

In the Spring term the band had played with the Salvation Army Band in the Friday Night is Music Night Concert, which raised funds for both charities. In April the band held a very successful residential weekend, the first since Covid.

In the Summer term the committee arranged a coach trip to the Royal Albert Hall in London to experience the Zimmer Vs Williams concert, as well as the annual car boot sale. The band held a concert which showcased the hard work that the Band had achieved over the year.

The Autumn term should have started off with the Band playing in the town centre, but due to inclement weather, we sadly had to cancel this appearance. In November the band supported a local school playing during their Open Evening and as well as at their Carol Service.

Treasures Report.

The treasurer reported that the band have had their books examined and a report is available.

Conductor’s reports.

This has been another good year. We have more children join us this year, and having the junior band is a real asset. After Covid there was a concern that we would lose members, but at the moment we have 75 children, the most we have had in a long time, who attend on a regular basis. It is nice to see the Junior Band playing alongside with the Seniors. The social side of the Band is building and after holding the residential weekend it has encouraged members to sign up for Tour.

We now are using the Muzodo app now, before an event to support communication and planning, along with our Band web site w.w.w.DWYCB which will inform families and friends of the diary dates through the academic year.

ACCOUNTING PERIOD 01.01.2023 TO 31.12.2023

INDEPENDENT EXAMINERS STATEMENT

I HAVE EXAMINED THE INFORMATION PROVIDED TO ME BY THE TREASURER BUT NOT A FULL AUDIT. AS A RESULT I AM ABLE TO PRODUCE AN INCOME AND EXPENDITURE REPORT, A BALANCE SHEET AND A SCHEDULE OF INSTRUMENTS AFTER APPLYING DEPRECIATION FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31[ST] DECEMBER 2023.

I HAVE EXAMINED THE BANK STATEMENTS AT THE BEGINNING AND THE END OF THE FINANCIAL PERIOD AND CONFIRM IT IS A TRUE AND FAIR VIEW OF THE DWYCB’S FINANCIAL POSITION.

Notes to the accounts

I have commenced depreciation on the new music stands purchased in 2022. The figure is therefore much higher than the 2022 figure shown in the Income and Expenditure account. It is intended to depreciate the asset value by 25% each year over the next 3 years unless the Committee decide otherwise.
