Friends of Aschiana Trustee Annual Report - Year Ending November 2022

Introducon

Friends of Aschiana was established with the objecve of providing essenal support to street children in Afghanistan, including access to food, educaon, and recreaonal opportunies. Our commitment to these objecves remains, thanks to the generosity of our dedicated donors and the huge efforts of our Trustees.

This is especially the case with Caroline Mylon who resigned as Chairperson and Trustee on 21[st] April 2023 due to ill health aer 11 years supporng Friends of Aschiana. She was extraordinarily commited and made a huge contribuon to the charity, her leaving has created a challenge finding a replacement

Financial Overview

Despite facing numerous challenges throughout the year, including the evolving polical landscape in Afghanistan, Friends of Aschiana connued to pursue its fundraising iniaves. We faced many difficules in transming funds to Aschiana, aer the regular banking system all but collapsed with the return of Taliban rule in August 2021, as well as internaonal sancons against senior Taliban, which created new difficules in finding acceptable money transfer companies.

charies to share knowledge and experse and our invesgaons into best pracse and the best transfer mechanisms connue.

Impact on Educaon and Well-being

Despite the challenges, Friends of Aschiana has connued to make a meaningful impact on the lives of Afghan children. Throughout the year, we maintained paral funding for five schools in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps. These educaonal facilies have given some opportunity to the children who have faced the harshest of circumstances.

Addionally, we played a role in sustaining Aschiana in Kabul by contribung to the salaries of three key staff members. These individuals are the backbone of Aschiana's operaons, and without their dedicaon, ours and their objecves would be impossible to accomplish.

Acknowledgments

We extend our hearelt gratude to our donors, whose unwavering support enables us to persist in our mission. We also commend our Trustees for their dedicaon and hard work in raising funds and navigang the challenging operaonal landscape in Afghanistan.

Looking Forward

Friends of Aschiana remains commited to its objecve of providing a brighter future for the street children of Afghanistan. Due to the current condions in Afghanistan, there are many challenges ahead but we hope that the situaon will stabilise at some stage in the future and we will be able to increase our support and expand our reach to help even more children in need.

In conclusion, we thank everyone who has contributed to Friends of Aschiana over the past year. Your generosity and support are crucial to our connued success in making a difference in the lives of vulnerable children in Afghanistan.
