’ - Trustee s report SEED AGM
The charity objective for SEED (Secondary Education to Encourage Development) is:
'The advancement of education amongst students in Tanzania of secondary and tertiary age, by the provision of funding through sponsorship, enabling them to attend local Tanzanian Secondary Schools and colleges of further education, including vocational training and university.'
2021
2021 has been another very challenging year for SEED, with Covid-19 stopping any visits to or from Tanzania again.
During the year we supported ninety eight students. Forty seven of our students have attended VETA (Vocational Education Training Association) colleges, teacher training colleges or universities with our support in 2020. During 2020 we supported ten students at Idodi Secondary School, fourteen at Kalenga Secondary School, eleven at Kiwele Secondary School and sixteen completing A-level studies at other colleges ( fifty one in secondary education in total).
We currently raise most of our funds through one to one sponsorship. In 2021 we had sixty nine sponsors, of whom nine are either school, church or other groups. Over the last year we have gained one new sponsor.
In addition to the one to one sponsorship, funds have again been raised by a variety of groups and individuals. Thanks go to Heswall Rotary and Shrewsbury Inner Wheel for great fundraising during difficult times. Gift Aid remains an important source of income giving us £3,561.48 this year. Funds from Heswall Rotary meant we could support the completion of Kiwele Girls dormitory with doors and windows. A great project to have been able to support during the pandemic.
I would like to thank Julie Jenkins for continuing to look for new ways to raise funds in difficult times and also all of those who so generously donated to our appeal for support during COVID. Despite covid restrictions curtailing many events, our fundraising team have managed to raise £3,409.42 through the appeal and a successful Christmas raffle.
We would also like to extend thanks to Tudor Jones for being our scrutineer again this year, to Robert Hollis as our secretary and to David and Rosemary Brice as our joint treasurers. As always a big thank you to all sponsors, donors and all the members of the committee who have helped with the running of the charity.
