REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES
The trustees have pleasure in presenting their report together with the financial
statements of the company for the year-ended 31st March 2025. The financial
statements of the charity are prepared in accordance with the accounting policies set
out on pag8 12 and comply with the charity's truslees and applicable law.
Status
The governing document is the Memorandum and Articles of Association of the
Company and members of the Board of Trustees are the Directors of the company.
Its governing instrument is the memorandum and Articles of Association.
Appointment of Trustees is by eleGtion at the General Meeting, which takes place
annually, and postal ballots are conducted when necessary. The chairperson and
Officers are appointed by the Trustees.
The board of Trustees meets eight times a year. In addition, a special strategy
meeting is held annually to consider the long-term direction of the Association and to
produ￿ an action plan.
Governance
The charity is governed by the Trustees who are also the Directors and members of
the Company and meet eight times a year. They ensure that the Association's
activities fit within the agreed charitable objectives. Their work includes selting the
strategic directlon and agreeing the financial strategy and operational budgets. The
Association's governing document is the Memorandum and Articles of Association.

Mission Statements
Iraqi Association is an independent non-political and non-sectarian organisation. It
exists to help Iraqis and non-lraqis settl& and integrate successfully in this country,
with rights to express their cultural identities. Our work is aimed at settled and
vulnerable members of the community, and includes providing volunteering, advice
services, user-led workshops, online community-led information, a community
newsletter, managing and serving older people's day centres and a women's
wellbeing club, organising seminars and cultural & social community events.

In accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011, the Trustees of Iraqi
Association have paid due regard to the Charity Commission's guidance on public
benefit when deciding on and planning Iraqi Association activities. The sections
which follow demonstrate how the Iraqi Association met its charitable purposes

during the course of the year 1 April 2024- 31 March 2025 and its principal
achievements under its respective strategic priorlty areas of work.
Our main activities and who we try to help are described below. All of our charitable
activities are planned to further our charitable purposes for the public benefit, and in
particular the trustees consider how planned activities will contribute to the aims and
objectives they have set. All of our charitable activities focus on promoting social
inclusion by enabling the potential of individuals and developing the integration of our
community, with a particular emphasis on working with people who are most
disadvantaged.
Actlvltles and Reviews
During the year the Association fulfilled Its mission by:
Providing practical support and assistance in the fields of welfare,
immigration, older people, women, volunteering, education and employment.
Offering regular confidential advlce and guidance using one-to-one and group
S6ssions.
Disseminating online user-led information.
Delivering and promoting active volunteering targeting all age groups.
Organising regular social and cultural events.
Preparing and delivering community-led outings targeting vulnerable and
isolated people.
Supporting vulnerable and socially excluded members of the community.
Publishing a community-led "Al-muntada. newsletter.
Managing and d81ivering services for older people and an older people day
centre.
Assisting families and vulnerable women and delivering a women's wellb8ing
club.
Improving policies and service delivery methods based on users-feedback
information and achieved Advic8 Quality Services (AQS) and Immigration
Advice Authority (IAA) standards.
The organisation also helps Iraqi children and raises awareness on issues relevant
to the community.

Public beneflts and achievements In the Year
'Oldor People Connect"
The "Older People Connect" is a five-year project funded by the National Lottery
Fund, to continue reaching isolated older people who have little or poor quality of life,
toenable them to integrate and engage in social interaction through positive
community attitude by encouraging rnore active involvement in the community,
themed events and older people'sclubs. It aims to make healthier, more active
people in the community, encouraging mor8 independence, by continuing to offer.
Advice and guidance.
Necessary settlement information in 3 languages using e-community newsletter
and online melhods.
Sustainable peer group community networking sessions with and for isolated
older users.
Community networking with volunteers and to reach hard-to-reach individuals.
This grant strengthens our capacity to carry out our work to more eff@ctiV8ly meet the
changing needs of our clients. It readdresses the imbalance through the provision of
information, advice and advocacy, increasing r8silience and reducing exclusion.
Support for refugees, asylum seekers & migrants
This project is funded by City Bridge Trust to provide immigration, welfare &
seltlement advice to asylum seekers, refugees and migrants, reaching the following
outcomes:
> Increased economic well-being, through face-to-face & telephone advi
sessions in areas of welfare, housing and immigration. Ensuring the receipt of
welfare benefit entitlements, better & sustained accommodation and resolved
immigration status.
> Empowermant by reducing iso18tion, as service users are advised in
community languages and made aware of their rights & entitlements.
> Home visits & outreach to disabledlhousebound people.
> 6 issues of newsletter annu211y in community languages.
> Facilitate access to quality legal advice services by identifying help available
of legal representation through improved referral arrangements &
collaboration with voluntary and statutory service providers.
Legal Advice
This project is funded by Trust for London under the "Connected Communitles -
Advice work" programrne, to meet the needs of disadvantaged members of the Iraqi
&Arabic-speaking community, by serving and representing individuals and groups
from all sectors of our community regardless of their religion, ethnicity, political
affiliation, gender, disability and sexual orientation.
It also links them with the settled community and meets their immediate needs by
offering advice and support, on immigration, welfare entitlements, housing and

accommodation needs, accessing relevant services, outreach work and community-
led activities.
Last year our help reached categories of the following users.,
> Lonely and vulnerable older people who needed befriending
> Homeless people who need support
> Women in need of support
> Families with young children needing support
> People fleeing domestic violence
People who need employment advice & guidance
> People who need support to live independently
> People with mental health problems
> People with disabilities
Older People Wellbelng Project
Thls 3-year multilingual advocacy& advice project funded by the Mercer's Company,
started on 2111112021 and ended on 2011112024.
The project targeted Iraqi &Arabic-sp&aking older people, to tackle isolation and
poverty through a two-pronged approach. Firstly, connecting with older people who
are isolated and hard-to-reach, to provide them with advice and information to
become less isolated and dependent. Secondly, we helped people connect with
each other through group activities, day centres and a programme of social and
cultural events.
The project enabled older users to maintain links with the community and avoid
social isolation and develop peer support system that demonstrated a decreased
level of client isolation, by:
> Bringing people together and building strong relationships in and across the
community,
> Enabling more people to fulfil their potential by working to address issues at
the earliest possible stage.
This enabled project's older users to achieve:
> Improved economic well-being and access to local services.
> Less isolation & dependency
> Maintained and improved personal skills
Iraqi Communlty Wellbeing Project
This project is funded by the National Lottery Awards for All England programme. it
comprises of waekly sessions which bring together isolated people who face many
barriers to being able to lead fulfilling and healthy lifestyles.
Through direct work with these groups, there are three main areas being targeted to
improve overall wellbeing:
1- Physical activity. As well as obvious physical and mental health benefits, from
previous experience we have found that there is a high demand and interest

for these sessions, which therefore helps us reach the hard-to-reach when it
comes to other parts of the project.
2- Financial literacy, Key during the cost-of-living crisis, this will include
budgeting, saving, smart spending.
3- Basic English and ICT skills; Conversational language skills and help with
using smartphones and tablets.
Older Peo
leDa
Centre, to connect older people with each other through group
activities and a programme of social and cultural events. The centre is a space to
provide guidance and support to older people who are living in isolation by offering
services of befriending volunteers, outreach work and maintaining elderly
networking.
Women's wellbein
Clubis a weekly women's session with a range of activities
including.. exercise classes, health and wellbeing sessions, workshops,
entertainment and refreshments.
Older People Project
This was a 3-year grant by the Gordon Family Trust that was used towards the
cost of 1 day salary of the Older People Connect Worker, who provided advice &
guidance to isolated and vulnerable older Iraqi & Arabic-speaking people and to
manage older people's day clubs.
Volunteering
Volunteering empowers individuals by improving skills, confidence and self-esteem.
It increases social capital and delivers innovative and much needed services to our
community. Coupled with that, volunteering is a fundamental buildlng block of our
civil society. During the last 12 months, Iraqi Assoclation has engaged with an
average of 4 volunteers every week.
Communlty-led Workshops and Seminars
We organised seminars and meetings on issues related directly to our charity's users
and the community. During the year we organised 2 seminars and cultural events on
relevant subjects, with an average of over 50 people attending each semlnar or
event.
Communlty Newsletter & Settlement-led Informatlon
In these 12 months, we offered a range of services, using cost effective methods,
using both online and printed copies of our community newsletter and factsheets,
prepared by volunteers, which reached 2,000 subscribers.
Our bi-monthly community newsletter "Al-muntada" features seasonal client-led
publications and is distributed to empower clients and its readers with up-to-date

information and advice on accessing servicas, and changes in legislation and
procedures that affect the Iraqi and Arab communities settled in the UK.
Trustees, Responslbllities
The law as applicable to charities in England and Wales requires the trustees to
prepare financial statements at the end of each financial year which give a true and
fair view of its financial activities during the year and of its financial position at the
end of the year.
In preparing those financial statements, th8 Trustees are required to:
Select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently.
Make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent,
State whether applicable accounting standards have been followed, subject to
any material departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements.
Prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is
inappropriate to assuma that the charity will Gontinue on that basis.
The board of Trustees is responsible for keeping proper accounting records which
disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the company
and to enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the
Companies Act 2006. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the
Gompany and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of
fraud and other irregularities,

Fixed Assets
The movements in tangible fixed assets during the year are shown in note 7 of the
financial statemp.nts.
Reserves
The trustees have established a policy whereby funds held by the charity should be
between 6 and 12 months of resources to be expended. This target has been met.
Rlsk Review
A review of the major risks to which the charity is exposed, as identified by the
Trustees, have been reviewed and systems and procedures have been established
to manage those risks.
Systems of internal financial control have been put in place designed to safeguard
th8 Charity's assets, ensure that proper accounting records are maintained and
provide reliable and timely financial information. The Trustees are satisfied that these
arrangements combined with the reserves policy will ensure that resources are
available to maintain services for the foreseeable future in the event of adverse
conditions. The Trustees have also examined other operational and buslness risks
faced by the charity and confirm that they have established systems to mitigate the
significant risks.
Investment Pollcy
The Memorandum and Articles of Association authorises the Trustees to make and
hold investments using the general funds of the charity.

We report on the accounts of the Association for the period ended 31. March 2025, which
are set out on pages 10-18. These financial statements have been prepared under the
historical cosl convention and the accounting policies set out on page 12.
Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner
As described in the siatement of trustee responsibilities the trustees are responsible for the
preparation of the financial statements. The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not
required for the year under section 144 of the Charities Acl 2011 and that an independent
examination is needed.
It is our responsibility to:
Examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act.,
To follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the charity
commissioners under Section 145 (5) of the 1993 Act; and - to slate whether particular
matters have come to our atlention.
Basls of Independant examiner's report
Our examination was carried oul in accordance with the General Dlrections glven by the
Charity Commissioners. An examlnation includes a review of the accounting records kept by
the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes
consideration of any unusual items or dlsclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations
from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not
provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently we do not
8xpress an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.
Independent examlner's statement
In connection with our examinations, no malter has come to our att8ntlon:
(1) Which gives us reasonable cause to belleve that in any material respect the
requirements
to keep accounting records in accordance with section 386 of the Companies Act
2006 Act", and
to prepare accounts whlch accord with the accounting records and comply with
the accounting requirements of the Companies Act and with the methods and
principles of the statement of Recommended Practice: Accounting And Reporting
by Charltles (revlsed in 2005) have not been meet; or
(2) lo which, in our oplnion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper

1 ACCOUNTING POLICIES
(a) Accounting conventlon
The flnancial statements have been prepared under the historical cost conventlon
and in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard for Smaller Entities
(Effective April 2008), the Companies AGt 2006 and the requirements of the
Statemenl of Recommended Practice, Accounting and Reporting by charities,
(b) Voluntary income is crediied lo the Statement of Financial Activities when received.
(c) Revenue grants are credited to the Statement of Financial Activities when received or
recelvable whichever is earller, unless they relate to a specific future period, in which
case Ihey are deferred.
(d) Restricted funds are to be used for speciflc purpos8s as laid down by the donor.
Expenditure which meet5 these criteria is charged to the fund, togelher wlth a fair
allocalion of management and administratlve costs.
(e) Unrestricted funds are donations and other incoming resources received or
ganerated for tha charitable purposes.
(f) Depreciation is provided on all langible fixed assets at rates calculated to write off the
cost of each asset over its estimated useful life. The depreciation rates in the use are

10. PURPOSES OF RESTRICTED FUNDS
Restricted funds include the following grants:
LB Hammersmlth and Fulham
The grant covered cost of a project that benefiled older people& women, who had no friends
or relatives and lived in isolatlon. The project linked them Wlth the community uslng
volunteers, and weekly activities th8t eased Iheir isolation and improved their heallh and
well-being.
Gordon Famlly Fund
This funding was used towards an extra day salary of the Older People Workerand

dlsadvantaged sector of the Iraqi & Arabic speaking community, to serve and represent
Individuals and groups from all seciors of community, Also linking them with the settled
community and meet their immediate needs by offering advice and support, on immlgration,
welfare entltlements, housing, outreach work and community-led activities.

Lottery Communlty Fund
The grant covered the cost of the "Older People Connect project" that aims improve
confidence, health, wellb8ing and reduce isolation through improved skills and opportunities
for older Iraqi and Arabic-speaking people in London, by providing advice, information and
support with welfare, health and housing issues. This included informal group Gounselling,
exercisé sessions and health awareness workshops.
Award for All
This grant was about reaching and supporling vulnerable and Socially excluded Iraqi and
Arabic-speaking older people and women in London and promote social inclusion through a
range of clienl-led activities and opportunities. These included group sesslons to provide an
opportunity to make friends and network, workshops to provide advice on issues ranging
from accessing local services. welfare, health, fitness sessions and volunteering
opportunities.
The Mercers, Company
The grant covered cosls to lackle Isolation and poverty amongst older people within the Iraqi
and Arablc-speaking community in London through a two-pronged approach. Firstly, we
reach out to the community, targeting older people who are isolated and hard-to-reach, to
provide them with advice and information to become less isolated and dependent. Secondly,
we help people connect with each other through group actlvilies, day clubs and a
programme of social and cultural events.
Clty Brldge Trust
This funding is toward the provision of Immigration, welfare and settlement advice to asylum
seekers, refugees and migrants under your Support for refugees, asylum seekers and
mlgrants themed priority.
