are prepared in accordance wlth the accounting policles set out on page 10 and comply

The govèrnlng document is the Memorandum and Artlcles of Assoclation of the Company
gnd members of the Board of Trustees are the Directors of th8 company. Its governlng

Appolntment of Trustees Is by electlon at the General Meeting, which takes place annually,
and p03tal ballots are conducted when necessary. The chairperson and Offi¢er8 are

In accordance with the requirements of the Charlties Act 2011, the Trustees of Iraqi
Association have paid due regard to the Charlty Commlssion's guidance on public benefit
when decidlng on and planning Iraqi Association activities. The sections whlch follow
demonstrate how the Iraqi Association met its charitable purposes during the course of the
year 1 April 2023 - 31 March 2024 and its prlnclpal achievements undor fts re8pectlve
strateglc prlority areas of work.
Our main activitles and who we try to help are described below. All of our charitable
activitios are planned to further our charitsble purpose8 for the public benefit, and In.
particular Ihe trustees consider how planned activities will contrlbute to the alms and
obJectlve$ they have set. All of our charitable activitles focus on promolng social inclusion
by enabling the potential of Indlviduals and developing the integration of our oommunlty, .

Thls Is a 3-year muttllingual advocacy& advice project funded by the Mercer's Company,
targetlng i801ated Iraql &Arabic•speaklw older people, to tackle isolatlon and poverty
through a two-pronged approaGh.
Firstly, we reach out to the communlty, targeting older people who are isolated and hard-to-
reach, to provide them wSth advice and Infomiation to become less isolated and dependent.
Secondly, we help people connect with each other through group activlties, day centres and,
a programme of social and cultural events.
Thls project aim8 to Improve confidence and weNbelng while reduclng isolation through.
Improved skills and opportunit188 and informal group Gounstslllng, exerclse 8es81on8 and
health awareness work8hops.
The Oldor Poopl• Support Project
The Older People Support Project Is funded by Deutsche Bank, offerlng multilingual;
advocacy, support and advice to 150 older Iraql and Arabic-speaklng people across
London, to ensure they can access relevant statutory and communty support. Soclal and
cultural aetlvities arealso offered to address the Isolatlon and lonellne88 faced by these .
olderpeople.
This grant enabled our chartty to provide extra advice time and contributed to deliver
multlllngual advlce & guidance 8ervlces to Isolated and hard to reach older Iraql &Arabic
speaking. people,
Iraql Communlty Wellbolng Project
This project Is funded by theNational Lottery Awards for All England programme, It
comprfses of Week￿ 8esslons which bring together isolated people who face many barrier8
to belng able to lead fulfilllng and healthy life8ty18S.
Through dlrect work with these groups. there arethree main areas belng tsrgetted In order
to Improve overall wellbeing:
1- Physlcal activtty.. As well as obvious physlcal and mental health benefits, from
previous experience we have found that Ihere is a hlgh demand and interest for
these sessions, which therefore helps us reach the hard-to-reach when It comes to
other parts of the project.

course of the year, we offer servlces every week to an average of 20 older people.

average of 4 voluntser8 every week.

We organised seminars and meeting8 on188ues related directly to our charlty's users and
the communlty. Durlng the year we organi8ed 4 Seminars and cultural events on relevant
$ubJects, with an average of over 50 people attendlng each seminar orevent.

We also ran a monthly film club in which a volunteer with a passlon for films select8 a
dlfferenl film each month from a different part of the world to expose the community to
Issues, cultures and Ideas they may not have previously come across, encouraging
discusslon and engagement.
Communlty Nowsletter & Settlement4ed Infomiatlon
In th88e 12 monihs, we offered a range of services, u51ng cost effectNe methods, uslng
both online and prlnted coples of our community newsletter and fa¢t8heets, prepared by
volunteers, which reached 2,000 8ub8crlbers.
Our bi-monthly communfty newsletter 'AI-Muntada' features seasonal client-led Publications
and Is distributsd to empower clients and its readers with Up-t￿date infonnation and advice
on accessing setvices, and changes in legislallon and procedures that affect the Iraql and
Arab oommunitles settled In the UK
