Charity Commission Report for 2021
Wessex Sculptors Charity Commission No 1101088 The Black Barn Bramdean Hants SO24 0LQ
Constitution adopted 8 July 2003, amended 13 November 2003
The members of Wessex Sculptors (who each pay a monthly membership fee) organise the Charity through a Committee of Trustees elected from its members.
Trustees are recruited from its members, usually at the time of its Annual General Meeting held in June.
Current Trustees:
Mr Wynn Rees (Chair) Mr John Layzell (Secretary) (from November 2021) Mrs Chris Wilkinson (Membership secretary) Mrs Jill Phillips (Treasurer)
Activities and Objectives are centred around the practice and furthering ideas of sculpture.
Achievements and performance in this period have been limited by Covid related restrictions. Members did produce sculptures of many kinds during the year, though mainly in their home work spaces since for a large part of the time we were not able to meet at the Barn due to the Covid restrictions. At times when the restrictions were less onerous, some workshops were offered to those interested, and these were able to run. These enabled us to extend knowledge and practice of sculpture to others.
Our broader aim of working with schools, youth groups or disadvantaged groups were not met, despite our desire to do so. All of those institutions and groups which might have been interested in exploring sculpture were themselves constrained by Covid restrictions, and so were not in a position to take up our offers.
Financial Review
We did not feel it right to ask members for their normal subscription amounts during the time when Covid affected us all, though many did. However we received Covid Grants to enable our activities to survive this period. The opening bank balance on 1st April 2020 was £3865.44. Total income for the year was £28,950.63, which includes Covid-19 grants of £19,907.43.
Total expenditure was £9,288.32, giving a surplus in 2020/21 of £19, 662.31. The closing balance on 31st March 2021 was £23,527.75. Further financial details can be found in the adjoining accounts. No funds are held by a custodian trustee.
