DUDLEY STROKE ASSOCIATION TRUSTEES REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31ST MARCH 2023 The trustees who are also directors of the charity for the purposes of the Companies Act 2006, present their report with the financial ststements of the charity for the year ended 31 st March 2023. The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities.. Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard 102 (effective 1 January 2016). OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES Dudley Stroke Association - a local independent charity - established in 1987 provides guidance, support and information to people who have suffered a stroke and their familieslfriends by various means. such as: the provision of infonnation packs - free of charge people to visit- many of our volunteers are people who have them*lves suffered stroke or have experience of some-one who is affected by a stroke support groups listening to peoples worries and concems, being a sympathetic ear. In planning activities for the year, trustees pay due regard to the Charity Commission's guidance on public benefit. ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE In the year under review, the charity reports a small deficit of £331. The charity relies predominantly on donations to continue its core work and is extremely grateful to those who give so generously, whether by sponsored events, corporate donations, gifts or in memory of loved ones. The charity also acknowledges grants from Big Lottery Community Fund, Sports England and NHS Black Country & Birmingham ICB administered by Dudley CVS. The Trustees consider these results to be satisfactory in the current financial climate, FINANCIAL REVIEW Reserves policy The Trustees are concerned that the lack of core funding available from statutory bodies imposes evermore reliance on general donations. Funds available remain sufficient to permit the charity to continue in operation in the medium term, given continued support from donors. It is the trustees policy to ideally maintain a cash reserve equivalent to at least 6 months core expenditure to enable alternab've funding SoUrS to be obtsined. STRUCTURE. GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT Governing document The charity is controlled by its governing document and constitutes a limited company, limited by guarantee, as defined by the Companies Act 2006. Risk management The trustees have a duty to identify and review the risks to which the charity is exposed and to ensure appropriate controls are in place to provide reasonable assuran against fraud and error.

Responslbilities and basls of report As the charity's trustees of the Company (who are also directors of the company for the purposes of company law), you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 ('Ihe 2006 Act"). Having satisfied myself that the accounts of the Company are not required to be audited for this year under Part 16 of the 2006 Act and are eligible for independent examination, I report in respect of my examination of your charitls accounts as carried out under section 145 of the Charities Act 2011 ('Ihe 2011 Act.). In carying out my examination I have followed the Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act. Independent examlner's statement I have completed my examination. I confim that no material matters have come to my attention which glves me cause to believe that.. accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 386 of the Companles Act 2006; or the accounts do not accord with such records; or the accounts do not comply with relevant accounting requirements under section 396 of the Companies Act 2006 other than any requirement that the accounts give a 'true and fairf view which is not a matter considered as part of an Independent examination., or the accounts have not been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 102). Unrestricted funds: Grants: NHS BC & Birmingham ICB: To support families and carers of those affected by stroke. NHS BC & Birmingham ICB: To undertake 6 and 12 month stroke reviews. Various minor single grants. Restricted funds: Grants: Health Inequalities Grant: To raise stroke and health awareness in the Borough focussing on key wards where rates of stroke are high. Big Lottery Community Fund.. For costs related to running exercise group. Sport England: For costs related to running a fvrther exercise group. Accounting policles. 2.1 Accounting convention The financial statements are prepared under the historical cost convention and in accordance with the Charitses SORP (FRS102 (effective January 2016) and the Companies Act 2006. 2.2 Tangible fixed assets and depreciation Tangible fixed assets are ststed at cost less depreciation. Depreciation is provided at rates calculatsd to write off the cost of each asset over its expected useful life, as follows; Office equipment 331130 straight line basis Expenditure of less than £1,000 per item is not capitalised but is written off in the year in which it is incurred. Assets purchased entirely with specific grants are not capitslised but are written off in the year of purchase and the grant reflected in income. 2.3 Deferred grant reserve Grants received for periods exceeding the Charity's year end are credited to a deferred grant reserve account and released in line with the penod to which the grant relates.
