Musical AGts"vities It was wilh a mixlure of trèprdation and excitement that the Society entered the 2021122 concert 5e850n. The curtailment of all live perfoimances in the 2020121 season due to the myriad of rvles applied by the Government, made planning and implernenlab.on of thè nèw season • exercise in elevatsrg hcpe above expectal￿n. The Christmas season was shrc¥Jded in concem as expÈcth"on5 of renewed limitations ort ¢horal singing and amaleur pèrformances increased. We were acutety aware that the pandemic wasn'l yet over. The Christmas with Blad( Dyke Band was ￿rhapS a littt• mre subdued than we might have hoped, due in parl to th inability to invofve the Youth Choirs. The available caparyty on stage. whilst sts'll alkjwing for some degree of social distan￿n9 was insuffitient, and Ihe Youth Choirs rernained Iwgety out of actKJn as Ihe p8ndèrni¢ ccrlinued to impacl ￿h0O15 disproportsonalely lo the wider ¢ommunity. The concert highlight may have been the premiere of a specualty commissioned a cappella piece by a young new composer Anna Oisley-simpson - 'Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening'which was particularfy well-received by the audience and thoroughty enjoyed by the choir. It is hopetl that lulure Christmas concerts will pr¢)vlde a similar platform for pi8ces sp•aalty commissK)ned from other lalented young composers.
