SUM.MARY It is with much sadness that thc trumees have to rewt th¢ uneXp￿ted death of Mr Mike Besi during 2023. Mike was a long lime member of the Cottin8ham Crick Club commitlee and and major contribulor to the rnnning of the Hilliop sports facilit- ies. "Bestie" will be sorely missed by everyone ai Cottingham Young People's Spons Foundation and C(Atin8ham Cncket Club. The Projecl to upgrade the NHS foothall field into a multi sports faciliry was com- pleled in the f￿51 half of 2023 ai a cosi of £90K. The projeci w'as funded by a grant from the East Riding of Yorkshir¢ Council Community Fund. Following the comple- tion of the project Cottingham Cricket Club and Weslella and Willerby Fooiball Club enjoyed unintemipied sports r￿tureS on the field. The trustees are very grateful to the CCC and W&W cornmittee members for their professional management and imple• mentation of this projeci. On the main arena Collingham Tigcrs installed an irrigation system for use on their rugby pii¢hes. This is a direct response lo the switch from winier to summer rugby. In Novembcr. Humberside Fire and Rescue Service carried oul a Fire Safety Inspec- tion in Slethnere House. The last inspection was completed in 2012. Terry Groom lead the inspection on behalf of the trustees. No major issues were identificd and the inspection and follow up actions were signed off by the Fire Service in March 2024. FolloM'ing the installation of ANPR camcrds on thc NHS car parks at Hilltop in 2022. new i-Pad vehicle registralion system was broughi into operalion during the first quarter of 2023. This significantly reduced the number of N'ehicles parking on the n)ad5 around the s￿)rtS ar¢na. To date the new i-Pad system has preventcd anyone receii'ing a parkn"n8 ucket when visiting the Hilltop sports faciliti Mana8in8 the Foundation's fllwices was more complicated in 2023 &$ the long icrni gas and electricity contracts came lo an end in Apnl and May 2023. A preliminary budgel was sei for the first half of 2023 and this was review¢d and adjustcd once new gas and electricity contracts were pul in place. Club rent In￿¢￿￿$ were agreed to ov¢r pO￿ntIal ex￿1th'ture overspend and the FoundatlOD ended the y¢ar with a small sury)lus. As a result of the increased costs associated with the operation of the Hilliop facilit- ies. the truslees undertook 8 "root and branch" reN'iew' of how lo apportion costs and set club rents in 2024. The review was conwleted in Dec¢mb¢r 2023. 2. HISTORY OF COTTIE%GHAM YOLNG PEOPLE'S SPORTS FOL.YDATION CYPSF was fOrn￿d in July 1999 by Roy Waudby and severdl other local business men who had a common love of sport. The initial drivin8 force behind the forTnaiion of the Foundation was to esthblish a new and pernwicni home for Cottingham Tigers RLFC who were playing their ru8by games on the l(Kal recreation ground. The Hill- top facililies were ideniified a5 a potential site since li had historically been a spons ground. The land and building were purchased and vested in the name of the original CI"PSF Truslees. After renoi"ation it became the pernwient hom¢ of Cotlingham Ti- gers RLFC. The Trusiees also ini'ited Westella and Willcrby Fooiball Club and Cot- tingham Cricket club to play on the facilitses, thereby makin8 CYPSF a mulii sports foundation. 3. FIN'ANCIALS A preliminary budget was put in place in January 2023 with ihe knowledge that ex- pendilure on gas and electricity would increase significantly when the long i¢mi gas and electricity contracts ended in April and May ?023. When the ne￿, ulility contracts were agreed, a budget review was undertaken w'ith the 3 SFM)rts clubs. Energy con- sumpiion was reduced where px)ssible and small reni adjuslrnents of £750 per club were agreed Even with these renl increases the Foundaiion was slill anticipating making a small financial loss for the y¢ar. Howevcr, a r¢batc from our water supplicr along with lower than budgeted maintenance charges resulted in the Foundation mak- in8 a surplus for the year. Actual CYPSF operating income for the year w'as circa £39.4K with an operating ex- penditUTe of £35.8K. The operating surplus of £3.6K compares to a small predicted budget deficit. Th¢ differcnce is mainly due to a waier rebate from Scottish Water (£2.5K) and a lower than budgeied br¢akdown mainteiiance expenth'll￿e (£1.9K). At the end of the year. CYPSF'S cash reserves remained strong at around £20.0￿.
