LCSB is a company limrted by guarant* and was in¢orptyated on 19 July 2003. It then apPl￿d for and was
granted charitable status. Its charity registration nurnber is 11tsJ638. The prineipal actNty of LCSB is the
promotion of Benedictine spirrtualty and rts values of prayer. serv￿e. and hosprtality in stable communty.
Govemance
The comrnunty 15 led, in partnership wrth a Council. by a member. called the Leader of the communty. This
role is to ¢olLaborate wrth the council and the corrrfnunty in discerning the 5trategi¢ direction of the LCSB. to
work lor the spiritual wellbeing of all membèrs and the communty. to inspire members of the community to
deepef spintual ¢ommrtment and to represent the community to both rts rnembers and the outsrde world. The
¢UTrenl leadgr. Adam Simon. has declined an hOnO￿l￿, and has been co-opted 35 a Trustee.

Expenditure on y￿th Developrr￿nI rose to £25.8*. As a resu￿ the conditions of ts grant from Porticus
were met in fvll both as regards giant spend and as regards matchin9 LCSB spend.
During the peric*J under review LCSB continued to empby an Administrator on a part-time basis for 1S h¢xJrs
a week and a Finance & Bc#)kings Secretary for 7 'A hours a week. The Adminislralor and Finance and
Bookings se¢retary have pernianent signed contracts. and reFoI to line managers. In addit￿n. a Discipleship
aThJ Digital Coordinaior is employed on a hvelve tYM)nlh contracl, reporting to Adam Simon.
Review of financial positlon: during the year covered by these accounts the LCSB Pr￿U¢¥d a deficit of
£2,696 {as against a surplus of £12.032 in the prrteding peritsJl, as shown in the Statement of Financial
Activities on page 8 of these accounts.

New membefs result from enquiries frun friends of members. from the website and from the reaching ol age

Largely as a result of the Devekjprnent PLAn. the number of ￿￿rnber$ during the year under review has
increased from 185 10 201. Enquiries rec￿ed by the Adminislrator have also increased, mainly from the
website and the personal c£ytscl of members.
Council and Organisational Framework: there is a CYC￿ of four Council Meetings. linked with tsyice a year
Trustee meetings, and Team Leaders. meetings, devsed to maximise the use of peoples. time. and minimise
travel expenses. All meetings in the peric¥J under revww weo conducted either by Zoom or were hybrid
meetings, partly by Zwm and partly in person.

LCSB roles." Adam Simn will complete the second year of hB term of off￿ in summer 2022. Fil
Rae retired after eight years, service in August 2021 and was replaced as LCSB Administrator by Peter
Agius Emily Westlake has been in post since May 2020.
In 2021 the Communty ceEebfated 50 years since rts fw)dation by Worth Abbey. This concluded in
December 2021. after a year of celebrat￿n$ and talks. with a communty Serv￿ of thanksgiving.

In A￿ust 2021 a book was published to commemorate the SCTr anniversary, entitled 'The Lay
Communty of St 8enedict - A Short Hi%lory 1971-2021,. Thts history was compiled wrth input from
many drfferenl conlribulors br¢)Ught t¢)gether by Martin Hollin$. It is available on Amazon.
As a resutt of the 2020 Appeal for irKreased income to fvnd the Devdopment ptan, donations of
£14,837 Wore Inc¢)me Tax Reclaimable were receNed in the year under review.
Youth Developwl Plan and Port￿U$ Grant.. POrt￿uS gave a grant of £35.000 tvwards the project
'Young Lay Formation in the m￿lands.. The ￿rtrd was ortr3inaLly to Cover the project for a peric¥J of
years with a commrfment for the LCSB to match the funding in the third year. In January 2019
Porticus 4reed that the period of the grant be extended for a fvrther two years, tt) mid-2021. The
target was mel at the end of Octthr 2021.
The Diseipleship artd Digital Coordinator, fiJrbJed by the Portuls gra)l and LCSB funds. has made
Significant ¢onlribulion lo the lrfe of the communty. grLwng our young aduAs group. supporting the
teens, activity, and prodwThJ and other dyrtal outputs.
In earfy 2022 the LCSB, at the invrtalion of Pope Francis. explored syncvJalty as an ecumenical
¢cKnmunity in a number of con$ultatKJns, culminating in a report which was subrnitted lo the
Archdiocese of BiTmin9ham and the DrKese of Arundel and Br￿hlon.
In March 2022 the new LCSB website was completed wrth the addrtion of six videos inlroduGing the lrfe
of the ccffnmunty. Wrth a m&Jem Interface and look. the LCSB ts now easier lo g&t to know and
cess. The websrte also serves as the hub of our online prayer and community life.
The Easter TriduLtm 2022 which twk place at Cefn Lea was the fI￿t time that the ctynmunty had
gathered physi¢alty since 2019- 105 members and their familw attended, a record number in recent
yews.
