report and accounts for the year ended 30 April 2021.
The accounts have been prepared in accordance wrth the accounting policies set out in Note 1 to the
accounts and compty with the chanty's Memorandum arKI hrticles of AsS￿atiOn, applicable law and the

LCSB'S obj•ds
LCSB is a company limrted by guarantee and was wicowated on 19 Juty 2003. It then applied for and was
granted charitable status. Its charity registration number is 110￿38_ The principal actwity of LCSB is the
promotion of Bene¢Jictine sprituality and rts values of prayer. seryice. and hosprtality in stable communty.
Goveman¢•
The community L8 led. in partnership wrth a Courtil. by a member, calkd the Leader of the community. This
roie is to eoliaborate with the council and the wnmunity in disceming the stralegic direction of LCSB, Io
work for the spiritual wellbwng of all members and the community. to inspire members of the community to
deeper spirrtual Commitment and to represent the ¢ommunty to l)oth rts members and the outside world. The
new leader, AAJam Simon. has declined an honorarium. and has been co-OPt&J as a Trustee.
The Trust•
The Trustees a￿ the trustees of the LCSB as a charilable trA)dy. rep)rb"ng as appropriate to the Charities
Commission. and also the directors of LCSB Limrted. reFo￿"ng to the Registrar of Companie5. They are
primarily concemed wrth legal and wulatory compliance and the submission of Ihe statutory annual ￿port
and accounts. Together With the Leader and Coun¢il TnJste85 deal with employment and Conlractual issues,
data protection, ensuring athquale safeguardir4J. and tsking major financral decisions.
Trustees generally serve for three years but may be reappointed. The Council puts forward nomirees for
consideration for vaeanc*s but decbon is by the Trustees.
At the Trustees AGM in November 2018 Stephen SerFell wa5 re-appointed as a trustee and as Chair of
Trustees. Laurence Pearce was aFpointed Iwstee and Treasurer. and Veronica Bailey. Patitk Cleary and
Catherine Fitzsimmons were app)inted twstees.
During the period under review a Devekwment Plan was submitted firstty to the Trustees and then to an
E.G M for aFproval by Adam Swnon, the newly elected ￿ader in September. The plan was approved
contingent on the Ci)mmunrty raising s￿￿￿￿nI Sums to hetp finance this.. these sums have been
forthcoming. Otherwise, rt has been enough to meet immedk2tety following two Council meeting$ which
allowed parb"cipal*)n by Tnjstees as observers. Topics eonsiderejj during the period included reviewing
safeguarding reports. an annual update lo the risk register, and the annual report to Porticus on youth work.
Training in the du¢ies and reswnsibilities of Trust￿ and company directors is an on-gling prC￿8.
Th LCSB has tsvo permanent part-tirne emptyees, an Administrator and a Finance and BcKJkings Secretary.
A Risk Register of possitAe th￿ts to the organisation is maintsined and regularty revewed by the Council
and Trustees.
The Trustees are Satisf￿ thal the reserves hekl ty ¢)rganisatv)n are * an appropn'ate level to maintain
conlinuty even in the event of a major Inter￿p￿n to Incorr￿ streams and in line with our reserves policy.
They do not seek to increase them fvrther.

As in previous years the Safeguarding OffKer has reV￿wed the Safeguarding p)liw and gNen safeguarding
training al the Summer Gathering to members.

LCSB is a youn9 and vibrant charrtabk organisation funded es5entialty by donations from members. During
th¢ period under revtew. the LCSB has again improved rts ffinancial FositK)n. and has substantially increased
ils annual income both to part-malch the grant rwENed fr￿n P0￿cuS and to lund an exciting new
Development Plan.
During the period under rev￿ LCS8 continues to employ an Administrator on a part-b'me basis for 15 hours
a week and a Finance & Bookings Secretary for 7 'A hours a week. The Administrator and Finance and
8cx)king$ secretary have peimanent signed contr&t$. arKI report to line managers.
Review of financlal posltion: during the year cL¢vered by these accounts the LCSB Produced è surplus of
£12.032 las against a surpbus of £9.770 in the preceding per￿), as sh￿n in the Statement of Financ￿1
ActNities on page 8 of these accounts.
New Members
New members result from enquiries from fn.ends of members, from the websrte and from the reaching of age
16 of family members. There rs a perth of fomiats.on supported by a companion that may prxeed after about
a year to lull membetship. mathed by rnaking a promise at a ce￿rnnY.
As a result, the numbets ol enquiries received by the Administralor have continued at a steady rate, with
some referrals coming from olher Bened￿l•Tre commUn￿e$. but mainly ffom the website and the personal
contsct of members. Membershp remained at 185.
Coun¢ll and Organisational Framéwork: there is a ¢y¢le of four Council Meetsngs. linked wrth ￿lee a year
Trustee meetings. and Team Leadefs. meetings. devBed to maximise the use of peopks, time. and minimise
travel exwnses. All meetings in the Feiiod under review were conducted by Zwm.
Members are encouraged to be in at ￿ast one of nine Teams". Enquirers and Fomiation. Spiritual
Development Events. Marketing and Oulre8ch, Liturgy and Music, RegK)nal Devek)pment. Fund-raising,

The core actNity of the Communty since lockdc¢*n started has been a daity routine of online prayer
four times a day supplemented by regular fOrn￿￿"0n meeting5 during the week, and an ecumenical
ser¥￿e on Sunday nights
LCSB roles.. A new leader, Adam Sink)n. was elected * a ￿irtUal, Tractatus In summer 2020. LCSB
Administrator Ftona Rae now also has the rofe of General Data Proleclion Regulalions Officer. LCSB
Finance and Boc*ings Secretsry". Emity Westkke has been in post since May 2020.
In 2021 the Communty celebrated 50 years since its frxjndation by IAtJrtlJ Abbey and lo mark this
annNersary ha$ launched a serie$ of LCSB SO talks wrth notable SFeakers such as Dr Rowan Williams,
Esther de Waal and Bishop Richard Moth. There have also teen a series of virtual 'decade parts'es, lo
celet<ale the drfferent generations ol LCSB members.

The ApFeal fof Increased income.. The De¥ek)pmenl Plan was approved by the Trustees and
subsequentty by an Extraordinary General Meeting of members. at wh￿h commitments were made lo
increase donations. As a resuK the LCSB'S in￿e will increase by at least 75% in a full ygar.
Y¢YJth Development Plan and Porticus Grant.. Portus have gNen a grant of £35,000 t￿ardS the
project "Young Lay Fomiation in the M￿lands.. The ￿rd was orvJinalty to cover the project for a
period of tsvo years wrth a commitrnent for the LCS8 to maleh the funding in the third year. In January
2019 Porbcus agreed that the period of the grant be extended for a furt￿( iwo years, to mid-2021. 11 is
expected that the target will be rnet by the end of October 2021.
Teens actNity has been maintsined in kxkdty¥n by young wnmunty volunteers
A Balanced Life Project Essay Competition was held in autumn 2020 wh￿h attracted 36 essays from
young pe<>ple aged 18-35.
The Easter Triduum 2021 scheduled for Cefn Lea. Christian Conferen¢e Centre. Powy$. again had to
be cancelled. However. about 100 Members, fiiends and families attended a virtual Triduum
conference by Zoom wrth major inwt from j￿e5 Ah"son and swnrficant invofvement and part￿Ipation
of our young Feople and volunteer le•Jer5.
LCSB Policies.. coun¢￿ and Trust￿ revivwed the LCSB'S polws during the year, updated some and
added a number of new policw to ensure ¢￿pre￿n$Vrfe covewe. especially of Personnel, Safety
and Safeguarding issues.
