TheSocietyengagesinbuildingthelocomotiveinco-operationwithandinvolvingthe Tyseley
LocomotiveWorkswhoactasContractorsandhosts.Fortnightly/monthlyworkingpartiesare supported
byvolunteerswithhomeworkshopactivityandpreparationofdrawingsandlocationofsuitable original
spare parts.

Inaddition,wehavevolunteerswhohelpoutonsalesstandsatdifferenteventsthroughoutthe railway
galaseason.Thevolunteersengagewiththepublictotalkabouttheprojectaswellastryingtosell the
6880 branded goods.We also try to gain new members at these events.

Volunteerworkpartiescontinuedtomakesteadyprogressin2022.TyseleyLocoWorkshave completed
thefittingoutoftheGrangecabandassociatedpipeworkandthenremoveditallforpainting. Other
workwasdoneonthepipeworktothefrontendandthesteampipeconnectiontothecylinders and
more fittings were machined ready to be installed.

## **`Financial position`**

Asignificantfinancialmilestonewaspassedthisyearasthe£80,000spentontheGrange,hastaken the
total build cost in excess of £1m.
```

Incomecontinuestocomeinthroughtheusualroutes,althoughthelackofvisibilityoftheproject at
railwayeventsduetothecontinuedpandemicrestrictionsinthesummer/autumnof2021, has
contributedtoagradualreductioninincomefromprepandemiclevels.Muchoftheincome remains
reliantonthecoremembership,whichremainsstrong.Thetenderappeal,launchedin2019,now stands
at £21,000 after a further £7,000 was added to the total in the year.
```

Costsof£7,500wereneededthisyear,tocoverthepermanentrelocationofbothBettonGrange and
Cogan Hall  from Llangollen to Tyseley.

Itishopedthattheboilerwillbeundergoingitsfinaltestfortheinsurancecompanyearlyin2023. This
willallowtheboilerinsulationandcladdingtobefitted.Progresshasbeenhamperedbystaff shortages,
illness and work directed at running the Polar Express trains for Vintage Trains.

Thevolunteerteamworkedforthemajorpartoftheseasonondismantlingthescrapbodyof Cogan
Hall'stender.ThiswastoreleasethewheelsetsrequiredtobuildBettonGrange'sowntender.Weare to
concentrate on the locomotive now to speed up completion.

Theplanstohireasuitabletenderhavebeenconcluded,withtheproposed4,000gallonCollett tender
now having arrived at Tyseley. It only requires painting to match the locomotive.

We confidently expect the locomotive to make its first moves in steam before the summer of 2023
