## **Trustees Report for year ending 31/12/2022** 

Masham Sports Association had another successful year in 2022. The key sports offered to the people within Mashamshire and the surrounding area were cricket, tennis and bowls. 

The cricket section were pleased to expand to offer the opportunity for ladies to play cricket and held several friendly fixtures. They had a first eleven cricket team in Division One of the Nidderdale Amateur Cricket League and they again had a combined second eleven team with Middleham Cricket Club that got promoted from Division Seven of the Nidderdale Cricket League at the end of the 2022 season. They also participated in the Wensleydale Evening League and had junior teams in the Hambleton League. 

The tennis section in 2022 saw membership levels remain very close to the 2021 record numbers. Overall they had 91 members and in detail this figure comprised 61 adults, 17 intermediates (12 to 18) and 13 juniors (8 to 11). Each year the club invests in its future by subsidising a professional coach at Adult, Intermediate and Junior levels. Although the numbers were slightly down from the 2021 record year, these sessions remain a very popular and successful part of the club’s annual programme of events. Social Tennis sessions are played on Wednesday evenings, Thursday afternoons and Sunday mornings. These sessions remain the backbone of the club. The Annual Club Doubles Tournament and Singles Handicap Event remain firmly established and are now organised for both Adults and Intermediates. Both events were held in 2022. The club is affiliated to the Harrogate and District League, which allows club members to enter competitions and keeps our club in touch with the local LTA organisation. We managed to achieve promotion from division 5 to division 4. This is quite an achievement for Masham, as we’ve not been this high up in the league for over 20 years. The Club also participates in the Vale of Mowbray Men’s Doubles League and our Team Captain now undertakes the organisation of this league. In 2022, despite some good performances, Masham came 4th, our lowest position for several years. We continue to be affiliated to the LTA, which provides us with LTA website exposure, third party and public liability insurance and, a good support structure. 

The bowls section had 27 members in 2022. The bowls club played in both the JSW and the Bateson Leagues, both home and away, which each had 8 teams in 2022. The team ended the season in the bottom half of both leagues. As part of the Queen’s platinum jubilee celebrations the bowls section joined with Masham Parish Council to open the green to non-members to seek to encourage more people to try the sport. A successful competition was held and this resulted in the gaining of 2 new members. 

Receipts during the year were slightly lower than in 2021 but without the benefit of any government grants. Expenditure was higher than in 2021 due to expenses of £15,254 on building maintenance (over £13,000 higher than in 2021) but this should help to ensure the main building remains in a good state for the future. Monetary assets at the year-end of £54,528 ensures that the Sports Association is in a good position moving into 2023.
