The Foundali(>n for Cir(x(latory Heatth Ltd (the FcyJndation) is a private (x)mpany limited by gu8ranlee,
in(x)rporated on 19 Fe￿Uary 2003 and is a regÉstered d)arity, number 1100393. The Trustees have control of
the Foundation and rls property and funds. The number of Trustees should be be￿een three and fifteen.
Trustees are re-ele¢te(l every five yea￿. Mr R Bailey is Director and Chief Execarttve but is not 8 Trustee.
The Trustees review the Foundation's strategy and areas of acbty. indudiThJ Ix>nsiderab"on of grant requests.
finances and progress. To assist ihe Foundation in the allo(2tion of grants. a Research Committee meets as
required to reMew appli¢2tions and make recommendations to the Trustees. A condition of all grants made is the

Oble¢tlves and a¢tlvllles
The Foundation eonbnues to support researth and education in line wrth Tts aims to facilitate the translation
of scientffic endeavour into better mcxjels of care for paiients wrth cardiovascular disease wrth 8 strong
focus on prevention. This year a substantial donation has enabled the establishment of a new initiative to
plan a global edLKational programme forfuture leader5 in the field of hypertension. Funding has been
assured for a six year prr*Jramm8 to b8 carried out ui collabcffaticffl w¢th the Britssh and Irish Hypertension
Society.
Funds have been used to support orwJoing research in cardiova￿1ar phyS￿bgY and artificial intelligen
applied lo coronary artery disease.
The Foundation has also supported the participation of Msiting physiC￿nS including those from
developing countries to attend and interact with the Imperial faculty and staff including visiting the
Hammersmith Hospital and research facilities as well as attending the three day Imperial Valve and
Cardiovascular Course and other meekn.ngs and conferences.
GTant making policy
The Foundation inwtes applicatKJns in a SFeafic formal which incbjdes any required elhics approvals and
LX)nfirmation of support from the parliupating'lnslTtubon'. Appli￿￿n5 are first (x)nsidere(I by indi￿rIual Tnjslees.
A recommendation is then made to the Board of Trustees. The emphasis is on short-temi funding on the basis
that SUc￿55[U1 proje(ts will uknmatety be able to attract thè aPp￿￿"ale fijnding. An example is seed funding for
PhD candidales who are U￿rnatety sutte&8ful in oblaining programme grants from major charrbes like the BHF.
