The Trustees present their annual report together wi(h the financial statements of the Charity for the year ended
31 August 2021. The Annual report serves the purposes of both a Tnjslees. report and a directors, report under
company law. The Trustees confirm that the Annual report and financial statements of the charitable comp8ny
comply wtth the currenl statutory requirements. the wuiremenls of the charitable companls governing
document and the provisions of the Slalement of Recommended Practice ISORPI applicable lo charities
preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financkal Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic
of IreLand IFRS1021.
Since the Charity qualifie5 a5 small under section 382 of the Companies Act 20C6, the Strategic report required
medium and large companies under the Companies Act 2006 Istrategic Report and Directors. Report)
Regulations 2013 has been omrtted.
Objectives and activities
a. Our aims and objective5
The purpose of the charty. a5 slated in the goveming document. is Ihe advancement of religion. specifically the
Christian faith and the promotion of Christian principles and teaching in all aspects of human relationships in
accordance with the Articles of Farth set out in Article 34 of the Articles_
The main aims of the charity in meeting its objectives are the provisK)n of resources, encouragement and
support to the business and professional communrty in the Bimingham area.
Our aims, objectives and activities are reVi￿1ed on a continual basis throughoLrt the year. The review looks at
the SUC￿SS of each key activity and the on-going benefits Ihat have been brought to those attending. Reference
has been made lo the guidance contained in the Charity Commission's general gUKJance on public benefit when
feviewing our aims and objectives and in planning future activities.
The focus of our work has continued to be broadening conlad netsvorks and supporting the business community
in Bimingham through pasloral support, and the gathering Ic*Jelher of the community working in the city.
We are developing a project to enab￿ the wider support of the business communty called the Bimiingham
Wellbeing Allian￿, which connects businesses to products and services that offer a wide ran98 of holistic
weelbeing services for employee5 in the city and the ￿910n.
We also run a Christian business network that supports Christian workplace groups and SpeCrf￿ network groups.,
Cilyvibes for young adults,. Cty Women", Cty Men." and Cty Legal fr)r members of the legal profession.
b. Maln activitigs undertaken to further the Charity's purposes for the public benefit
A11 our charrtable activities focus on ￿8¢hing Out and supporting professionals in their place of work and are
undertaken lo further our charilable purpose5 for the public benefit.
¢. Who usgd and benefrted from our services
The smaller gatherings and pefsonal pastoral support benefited people, whether from any particular faith or
none. by giving them time to reflect upon and talk through their concems. especially as jobs are still being made
redundant and a number of people are suffering from seriou5 physKal and mental health issues.
Through this mainly 'unseen' work caring for people. Chaplaincy Plus continues to help individu81s to 'work well.

A number of large gatherings were hekl, the principal ones being..
Annual Celebration in October which was held on Zoom. the annual Carols for the Business Community which
was pre-recorded this year. and broadcast on YouTube. and the annual Spring Gathering in Ma￿h as part a
fundraising week.
There were also regular smaller gatherings both on line and in person whith include Chaplaincy Plus prayer
meetings, Cty Legal, City Vibe5, City Men. City Women. and small groups within fimis worting within the Cty.

The charity's policy is to appty its funds in accordan￿ wrth the objeLts of the charrty whilst ensuring that there
are sufficient funds to cover cash fiow requirements relating lo commilted expenditure such as salary payments.
Typically this will mean retaining around £40.000 of funds in the general fund. The present level of reserves. al
£30.797 falls somewhat short of this target level alihough tt is improwng. Arthough the strategy is lo continue to
build reserves through planned opeiating surpluses. Ihe trustees are aware that it Is unlikely that the largel range
will be reached for one or two years. In the short tem), the trustees monitor the position and consider the extent
lo which existing activities and expendrture etyjld be curtai1￿1 should the need arise.

b. Finances for the year
During the period the charity f￿1Ve￿ income from don*ions from individuals. with associated gift aid lax reliefs
where relevant. from Charitable Trusts and Foundations and from gatherings tsking pla￿ in the year. Due to the
global pandemic of COVID-19. the number of opportunf(ies for face lo face gatherings and events lo lake place
was limiledat points in the year. Income tolalled £82.711 12020". £72,962) for the year of which £8.000 is
restricted funding for events taking Pla￿ during the next financial year. Expenditure in the year increased as
additional staff ￿sourCe was added to the team and the tolal costs foi the period were £78,04912020.. £70,430).
This iesulled in a nel surplus for the year of £4.662 {2020." 2.5321 although when taking account of the restricted
grant of £8.000 which will spent during the next year. the operational result for the year is a net deficit of £3,338.

policy. Reslricled reserves stood al £8.000 12020." £nill. The trustees have been mind￿1 of the challengin9
financial environment and are considering how this can be addressed.
c. Principal funding
The principal sources of funding for the charrty are indiwdual donations from professionals in the city, gift aid
reclaims and donations from Charitable Trusts and Foundations. The Iruslee5 continually review the fundraising
strategy and ale s￿kIng lo broaden the support base.

The charity does not generalty use the seMce5 of a profe5sion81 fLsndraiser but seeks lo encourage donations al
events and through the wider membership of the charFty through occasional letter5. The trustee5 seek lo ensure
that no undue pressure is placed on any potential donor and act in accordance with provisions of GDPR. No
complaints were received in the year. The charity does not adhere to any specific fundraising standard.

Structure. governance and management
- Constitution
The charity is registe￿ as a charIlab￿ c(xmpany limited by guarantee and was set up by a Memorandum of
Association on 12 August 2003 and subsequently regisleied wtth the Charity Commission on 29 October 2003.
The Memorandum of Association sets out the charrtable objects as slated above. The charity is governed by ils
Articles ofAssociation as amended on 13 January 2020.
b. Methods of appolntment or electlon of Trustees
The directors of the charitable company are its trust￿ for the purpose5 of charity law and are colleclwely
referred to as the trustees. Trustees are appointed at board meetings for a term of three years. At the end of a
term of office they may be reappointed for up lo a lolal of 4 temis of office_ All members of the board give their
lime voluntarily and receNe no beneffts or expenses from the charity.
. Oryanisational structure and decisionwmaking policies
The Irustees meet bi-monthly to administer Ihe charity- this conlinued lo be the case Vba online video conference
whilst the country was in l(Kkdown. The trustees are drawn from a variety of professional backgrounds relevant
to the work of the charity and are Tesponsible for the strategic direction and policy of the charity. Stephen
Bavington is responsible for the day-to4ay work of the charily and for providing guidan￿ for team members.
d. Pollcles adopted for the induction and training of Trustees
All the trustees are familiaT wi(h the work of the charity. The working5 and financial 5tsndin9 of the charity is
explained lo any new Iruslee by the Chair and the staff and the requirements of the trustees are noted in the
Trustees Handbook Issue 2 - 2018.
Plans for future periods
The strategy has been reviewed for the next three years and looked at how the work can be extended.
Focus for the coming pericKI includes rolling ovl the Bimingham Wellbeing Alliance.
We are working with businesses lo assess their needs with regards lo wellbeing and looking at tailored
approaches as required. This includes developing the work with the University of Law. and other businesses.
The COVID-19 pandemie and the ensuing econom￿ shutd¢M ha5 had a signrficanl impact on the charity's
operations eliminating opportunities for face lo face meetings, events and contact bul continues lo fully deliver all
its services through online medium. The charity is in a strong financial po$f(ion and the trustees maintain an up-
to-date Risk Register which enables careful management of varvjus risk faclofs including 'lmpact from
Pandem￿, and 'Disasler Conlingencv. The trustee5 are remewng income on a month by month basis, and are
starting to see a drop off in income - particularty from some of the regular Trust funders. ChaplaincyPlus is also
implementing a new projecl which both meets the charity objeclives and will bring a new income slfeam into the
charity. This will further strengthen the charity's financial p05rtion. Due to the careful monitoring of the income,
the organisalion is ready lo act accordingty to redu￿ costs shouhd the need arise, lo ensure the charity can
continue to meet its liabilities as they fall due for at least Ihe next 12 months.

General information
Chaplaincy Plus is a charitable company limited by guarantee and registered in England and Wales with
Companies House and the Chanty Commission. The registered office is Floor 8, One Colmore Row,
Birmingham B3 2BJ.
The primary activrty of the charity is the advancement of religion, specrfically the Christian faith, through
the provision of resources, encouragement and support to the business and professional community in the
Bimiingham area.
The financial stslements are prepared in £. rts funCt￿nal cuffency. and rounded to the nearest £.
Accounting policies
2.1 Basis of preparation of financial statements
The fin8nci81 Statements have been prepared in accordance wrth the Charities SORP IFRS 1021
Accounting and Reporting by Charities.. Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities
prepanng their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK
and Republic of Ireland IFRS 1021. the Financial RetK)rting Standard applicable in the UK and
Republic of Ireland {FRS 1021 and the Companies Act 20￿.
Chaplaincy Plus meets Ihe definition of a public benefft enlty under FRS 102. Assets and liabilities
a￿ initially recognised at historical cost or transaction value unless othetwise stated in the relevant
accounting policy.
2.2 Going concem
The financial statements have been Prepared on a going concern basis. The Directors have
considered relevant infomiation, including the annual budg￿. forec2st f￿Ure cash flows and the
impact of subsequenl events in making theiT assessment. The COVID-19 pandemic and the ensuing
economic shutdown has had a significant impacl on the charws operations eliminating opportunities
for face lo fa￿ meetings, events and contact but conlinues to fully deliver all rts servi￿$ through
online medium. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic. the Directors have discussed and reviewed
available measures lo assist in mitigating the impact and are monitoring income closely to ensure
that cost reduction measures can be implemenle(l rf need arises.
Based on Ihese assessments and having regard to the resources available to the entity. the Directors
have concluded that there is no material uncertainty and that they can continue to adopt the going
con¢em basis in preparing the annual report and accounts.

2.3 Income
All income is recognised once the Charty has erIt￿￿ment to the income. it is probable that the
income will be received and the amount of income receNable can be measured Teliably.
Grants and donations are credrted to income when the income recognition criteria above have been
met.
Income tax recoverable in relation to donations recewe(l under Grft Aid is ￿C(￿anISed al the time of
the donation to wh￿h rt relates. An accrual for any outstanding taxalK)n receivable is included in the
balan￿ sheet_
2.4 Expenditure
ExpenditUTe is fecognised On￿ there is a legal or constructive obligation to transfer economic benefit
to a third party, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in settlement and
the amount of the obligation carb be rneasured reliabty.
Expendrture on charitable ¥livilies is incurred on directty undertaking the activf(ies which further the
Chariws objectives. as well as any aSs￿lated svpport costs.

2.5 Interest recelvable
Interest on fvnds held on deposit is induded when receNable and the amount can be measured
reliably by the Charity., this is nom￿llY upon notrfK*ion of the interest paid or payable by the
institution with whom the funds are depossted.
2.6 Oebtors
Trade and other debtors are recognised at the settlement amount after any trade discount offered.
Prepayments are valued at the amount prepaid net of any trade discounts due.
2.7 Cash at bank and in hand
Cash at bank and in hand includes cash and short-temi highly Ibquid investments with a short maluTity
of th￿e months or less from the date of acquisition or opening of Ihe deposit or similar o¢counl.
2.8 Liabilities and provisions
Liabilrties are ￿COgnIse<l when there is an obligalKJn * the Balance sheet dale as a result of a past
event, il is probable that a transfer of ecorbomic berbefft will be required in settlement. and the amount
of the settlement can be estimated reliably.
Liabilities are recognised at the amount that the Charity anticipates r( wll pay to settle the debt or the

2.9 Financial instruments
The Charity only has financial assets and financial liabililies of a kind that qualrfy as basic financial
inslrumenls. Basic financial instruments are initially recognised at transaction value and subsequently
measured at their settle￿￿nI value.
2.10 Pensions
The Charity contributes lo ¢Jefined contribution pensKJn schemes on behalf of staff. The cost of these
contributions is accrued in the accounts on a monthly basis.
2.11 Fund accounting
General funds are unrestricted funds which a￿ availab￿ for use al the discretion of the Trustees in
furtherance of the general objective5 of the Charity and wh￿h have not been designated for other
purposes.
Designated funds comprise unrestricted funds that have been set aside by the Trustees for particular
purposes. The aim and use of each designated fund is Set out in the notes lo the financial
statements.
Restricted funds are funds which are lo be used in accordance with specific reslriclions imposed by
donors or which have been raised by the Charity for particular purposes. The costs of raising and
administering such funds are charged against the spe¢rfic fund. The aim and use of each restricted
fund is set out in the notes to the firbanaal slalemenls.
Investment income, gains and losses are allocated to the appropriate fvnd.
Independent examlnerfs remuneration
The independent examination is undertaken on a Voluntsry basis and there is therefore no fee p8yable in
either 2021 or 2020.
