ACHIEVEMENf AND PERFORMANCE
ChArit*bl¢ Activltiey
Since our beg1t￿ill85 in 1996, we knY¢ had 23.454 hires, with 687 l&qt year rn]ucin8 to 586 this year. The rethiction of
101 has been caused by two things'.-
First of all, we lost our oUt￿a¢h serytce in Southwold. ￿.hell David and Peijny Balls who ran the Boating Lake Café
d¢cided to IEtire. We wtt¢ so gwefvl for ajl the help they bave given ￿ over th¢ y¢ws alld Thli8¢ that th¢y have truly
egmed theirTetirenLenL This ODtreacbregu]arlv rcsulted in £3,0(K) Profit for Low68toft Shopmobility. Unfortu￿telY, th¢
newpeople who took over tbe Boating Lake Café decided that they could not tske on the Outrea¢h senTi¢e at all. We do
still have a few Custotllets who stay in SouQNTold, but they h8ve w eith¢r pick up tbe scooters from us in I￿￿ethft or
pay foT US to tralls￿rt them to Southwold for thon. Th¢ days of 10all￿ out wheElcbairs or sCOQteTS for day use has
FJni8hed. We tried man). plaGts ts) see if they wouId take over the 8¢rvi¢4 butn¢)ryone was willing.
Then after Chri8ttw 2024, Pak¢fi¢ld Holiday P4At (wbich used to be Pontins) closod to Visitors. We had mHny visitor5
to this holiday venue. and we bad SC￿te[S 8OiD8 QUI on & wE¢kly basis from Eastw to October and beyond. AgaitL, tbis
service￿ed tr> gett￿tte ￿ incorn¢ of arouDd £3,(K)O profit forLowestoft Shopmobilitv. The reason given forthis closure
was that Sizewell were tskitig iton to house the w0￿er$ whowill Ix moviDg into the aTea to buildiiLetr facility. Wc dot)'t
know now whethcrthis is goiDg to happe4 a5 the VenUereDnit￿ ¢lose& Sizew'ell didpn)nhise thar if any firms orchaTiti¢s
were impacted by ttkeir devekipment. they would receive a grdlll but even though we discussed this thenL they
refused to heIp u8 saying we syere outside their area. Some ofthe customers which ￿ed to go there have changed to other
holidayvenue5 the ￿ea. but wehave lost the I￿J0r¢ty.
We know thai we now do more forvisitors to the town than for It￿1 p￿pIe. fnis all helps tourisllL iti the #Ad gddg
the local ¢conomy, it is different than the sup￿1 of knal ]wle with disabilities V4hich was ow original aim. Our
local nwmberthip has reduced as WEIL aDd we OlllyhaNr 13 pwpl¢ locally wbo regul￿lY use our servic¢. We would
ttot want to change allythillg though, &8 we get ￿ lov¢ly ill our aTrllual User survey from visitors who we
our service. 5QQ/o of tiKm say they would not come to Low&stoft for a holiday if it was not for ow serri¢e.
Using a mobility Scooter or a power￿ wbeel¢h8ir to get out ond 81)oth helps people in Inany ways. It in￿eSses th¢ir
independmce and over¢om&8 feelings of igolation. It belps both ph}.81￿1]Y and mentally. It ¢nable5 thcin kn do things
which otber people take for grdlltr￿ like doing their owrk shoppittg. visittng the Bank or th¢ Post oifi¢e, going to the
hairdre8ser8 orh&vin8 a ¢offe¢ aud ¢Ak¢ vdith frietsd5. W¢atc the onlyp]aee in town wheJE someone hirt a whe¢lehair
or a sctsoter, so if Someone breaks a l¢g or has bad operation aLd is finding 1¢ dxffi¢ult to get abouL ￿ell just because
of adv*mcl￿ yeaTS. they can com¢ to U8. In Mawh 2025 we iwl 3) mobility S£￿ter4 4 powered wheelchairs 8lld 19
moThual wheelchairs.
We were soryy to 108e 00¢ of our IoDgv8tanding trustees in July 2024. as Moya Atmes bad kEn on the co]llmitt¢¢ since
Lowestoft Shopmobility began in 1996 and we thank h¢rverymuch for all th¢ time shekn ￿vell to the charity. We have
bad the d41dition oltbree new I[￿￿tee5 since July 2024 as you Can see fn)m the list on the nextWl8¢.
We members of Shopmobility UK who give us their awreditsiion and sup1￿rt us wiib & monthly llewsl¢tter. Thcy
