INTRODUCTION
As conflict, instability and insecurity continue to shatter lives and communities, and spark humanitarian crises, Awareness Foundation is as committed as ever to its mission to build lasting peace through education.
The Foundation is an international educational and humanitarian charity, driven by Christian values, and open to all. Its programmes seek to positively transform the lives of displaced and disadvantaged children, young people and women, their communities and wider societies, in regions blighted by conflict and social collapse.
It also works to empower Christians everywhere to be a counterforce of love and understanding to the animosity and intolerance that prevails in many parts of the world, and to build understanding between faiths and embrace diversity, especially in the Middle East.
Awareness Foundation does not provide emergency relief but rather implements longer-term interventions to promote sustainable peace and reconciliation. With a particular focus on Syria, the past year has reminded us of how volatile the Middle East can be, where so many cultures, faiths and traditions meet, merge, overlap and can tragically collide.
Despite constantly shifting circumstances on the ground, we are pushing ahead with our Little Heroes , Ambassadors for Peace and Enterprising Women programmes, and aim to launch a new Pioneers programme aimed at teenagers. Many are exhausted by years of instability, and it is crucial that their voices are educated and armed with the skills to build understanding and promote harmony.
The last year has been full of activities and behind-the-scenes work to enable us to roll out new programmes across Syria in 2026. And to keep you up to date, here is our latest completed annual report for the year 2025.

2025 – A YEAR TO REMEMBER
Working in regions such as the Middle East is essentially challenging. Delivering education, training and support to some of the world’s most vulnerable people takes place against a backdrop of instability and, at times, oppression, where circumstances can change rapidly.
For this reason, and with the support of our dedicated patrons, trustees, friends, partners and donors from all walks of life, we are proud to reflect on 2025 as a year of meaningful progress. Despite significant obstacles, we have continued to develop skills, expand opportunities and help foster hope for a brighter future.
The past year has also seen sustained efforts to raise awareness of the vital work of Awareness Foundation, helping to secure the support needed to continue our mission. From speaking engagements and community events to fundraising treks and silent auctions, we are deeply grateful to all those who have contributed their time, resources and expertise.
As always, our work remains firmly focused on supporting those most in need and advancing our long-term goal of Peace through Education .

OUR ACHIEVEMENTS OUR PROGRAMMES
October
- The Middle East Director Trip to Syria Huda Nassar
Little Heroes Training Leaders to Plant Love and Hope in Homs
As part of its mission to foster conscious, compassionate future generations, Awareness Foundation organised a specialised training titled ‘ Planting Love and Hope’ for leaders of the Little Heroes programme in the city of Homs. The participants represented a range of Christian denominations, reflecting the Foundation’s commitment to unity and inclusive community development.
The training featured an interactive dialogue session led by Huda Nassar, Middle East Director of Awareness Foundation, under the theme ‘Planning for a New Year’. This session provided a space for leaders to exchange insights, articulate shared visions, and align their goals toward a year centred on purpose, service, and positive impact for children.
In addition, Ramia Ibrahim, Awareness Foundation trainer, facilitated a practical workshop on the development of visual learning aids for children. The session emphasized the use of creativity and age-appropriate educational tools to strengthen engagement and enhance learning outcomes within the Little Heroes programme.
The training was hosted by the Presbyterian Church in Homs, represented by the Rev’d Adon Naaman, whose support and hospitality contributed to a collaborative and welcoming environment.
Children in Syria -The Reality
Suffering continues in Syria, and innocent children are still bearing the brunt of it. Many, many thousands have been forced from their homes, separated from friends and family, are victims of continued exploitation, lack even the basics, and have seen things that no child should ever see. According to the UN, more than 7,000 schools have been destroyed or damaged, and in 2024 there were 1,301 grave violations against children.
As defined by the UN, grave violations against children are killing and maiming, sexual violence, denial of humanitarian access, abduction, attacks on schools and hospitals, and recruitment and use.

Ambassadors for Peace in Syria
‘Seize the Time’ for Ambassadors for Peace in Latakia
As part of its ongoing commitment to youth empowerment and peacebuilding, Awareness Foundation organized a special gathering for Ambassadors for Peace in ‘ Latakia under the theme Seize the Time’ . The event was led by Huda Nassar, Director for the Middle East, and hosted by the Presbyterian Church, represented by the Rev’d Salam Hanna.
The gathering featured structured dialogue sessions that encouraged young participants to engage in collective reflections on the future and to explore practical ways of living out shared values, such as freedom, safety, and social responsibility.
Key issues affecting the future of Christian youth were also addressed, including migration and long-term planning. Discussions took place in an
atmosphere of hope and constructive engagement, highlighting the strong desire among participants to contribute actively to peace building and sustainable community development.
The success of this gathering reflects the Foundation’s continued efforts to amplify youth voices and foster leadership rooted in dialogue, resilience, and peace.

Ambassadors for Peace
Syria, where to? How do the Syrian young People see the future of Syria?
The Foundation launched a “Syria : Where To?” campaign in collaboration with its Ambassadors for Peace, giving young people a platform to express their hopes, concerns and aspirations for Syria’s future following the collapse of the previous regime.
Through this campaign, young Syrians share their reflections on what lies ahead for their country, offering perspectives shaped by lived experience, resilience and a deep desire for peace, dignity and justice.

Our ACTIVITIES
December
- Paper and Pen campaign 2025
The Foundation is deeply grateful for the generosity of all its donors and supporters, and particularly to Trinity Wall Street Church in New York for making possible the Paper and Pen campaign in support of children in Syria.
Through this initiative, the Foundation is providing essential stationery to 1,000 children from all denominations and faiths, enabling them to attend school. With the cost of school supplies continuing to rise, many families, especially those with multiple children and those already in need, face significant challenges in meeting this basic yet vital necessity. The support of donors helps to alleviate this burden and ensures many children, who would not otherwise have the tools they need, to access education, learn and nurture hope for the future.
- Christmas Thanksgiving Service At the Sanctuary, St Andrew by the Wardrobe
Despite the challenges faced during the year, there remains much for which the Foundation is deeply thankful. The Awareness Foundation continues to be sustained by the encouragement, prayers and generous support of its patrons, friends and wider community.
The Foundation’s Christmas Thanksgiving Service, held at The Sanctuary, St Andrew by the Wardrobe in central London, was a joyful celebration of both the year’s achievements and the hope that guides its work. The service was generously hosted by the Foundation’s patron, Archbishop Angaelos, Coptic Archbishop of London, and centred on prayers and Bible readings reflecting the Nativity.
A particularly moving moment was the Lord’s
Prayer sung in Syriac by Nuha and Huda Nassar. The service also included a sermon by the Executive Director, the Rev’d Dr Nadim Nassar, on the Gospel accounts of the Nativity; reflecting on the profound humanity of Christ’s birth in a stable and the mystery of the Word made flesh, dwelling among us.

- Christmas Tree Festival St Mary Magdalene, Wandsworth Common
The Christmas Tree Festival is a joyful celebration that also raises vital funds for The Awareness Foundation and supports our Little Heroes programme. For the fourth consecutive year, St Mary Magdalene, Wandsworth Common, hosted the festival in support of the Foundation’s mission.
Each tree, lavishly decorated and uniquely designed, was sponsored by local businesses, families, charities and community groups; making the display a true reflection of collective effort. The event highlighted the generosity and enthusiasm of the community for supporting meaningful causes, providing a source of genuine joy and thanksgiving.
The Foundation extends its heartfelt gratitude to all the teams at St Mary Magdalene for their dedication and hard work in making the festival such a success.
November
- Gala Dinner Landsdowne Club
On Tuesday, 4 November 2025, we held our annual Gala Dinner at the Lansdowne Club in London, in the presence of our gracious Royal Patron, HRH the Duchess of Edinburgh. The evening was truly memorable and marked the 10th anniversary of the Foundation’s Little Heroes programme in Syria.
The milestone anniversary of Little Heroes , which supports children aged 6– 12, was at the heart of the celebration. Many former Little Heroes have since progressed into the Foundation’s Ambassadors for Peace programme for young adults. During the evening, they spoke movingly about how the programme has empowered them to see themselves as ‘makers of change’.
The dinner also featured a video address from the Foundation’s Middle East Coordinator, Elza Nasra, speaking from Latakia, Syria. She highlighted the ongoing challenges facing young people in the region, with particular emphasis on the difficulties experienced by its Christian communities.

- The Executive Director Trip to Syria The Rev’d Dr Nadim Nassar
This was the first trip to Syria since the fall of the previous regime at the end of 2024. It was a journey filled with emotion — a mixture of gratitude, pain, hope, and responsibility. There was much to accomplish and many people to meet, but above all, it was profoundly important to reconnect with friends and partners who have carried the weight of these years with remarkable courage.
The Foundation is extremely grateful to its energetic and highly organised Coordinator, Elza Nasra, whose meticulous planning made the trip possible. We are blessed to have a young woman of such dedication supporting our work in a challenging context.
During the visit, the Executive Director meet with most of the Christian and Muslim religious
leaders in Latakia, which remains the main hub of the Foundation’s work in Syria. These meetings were marked by honesty and a shared concern for the future of the country and the fragile fabric of its society.
Rev’d Dr Nadim Nassar was also honoured to be the guest of honour at a Christian–Muslim dialogue evening, hosted by a local Christian group. In this setting, he shared reflections on restorative justice, which is the only viable path forward for a society emerging from the wounds of war and decades of dictatorship, corruption, and oppression. The evening served as a powerful reminder that reconciliation is not a luxury but a necessity for Syria’s future.
It was deeply moving to meet many of our Ambassadors for Peace and Little Heroes’ Leaders. Listening to their experiences since the fall of the regime was both humbling and inspiring. These conversations also provided an opportunity to build momentum for our new programme for teenagers, ‘ Pioneers’ , discussing its vision and goals with both religious and lay leaders.
Towards the end of this visit, The Executive Director was invited to give a talk on the meaning of the Incarnation and Christmas in this new chapter of Syria’s life — a fitting reflection on hope, renewal, and the enduring spirit of the Syrian people.
The Word Became Flesh... In Syria
How does the Incarnation of hope live amidst the challenges?
As part of the Foundations’s ongoing efforts to foster reflection, dialogue, and hope within Syrian communities, Nabdh Watan, hosted an open dialogue with Rev’d Dr Nadim Nassar. The discussion, entitled ‘The Word Became Flesh in Syria… Incarnation and Our Syrian Hope’, explored the transformative power of pain into hope, and the ways in which words can become a living, actionable presence in our communities.

Participants examined how Syrians can actively embody goodness, reconstruction, and giving, reinforcing the importance of faith and civic engagement in the nation’s revival. The event was warmly hosted by Our Lady of Latakia Maronite Church, and brought together community members, thinkers, and local leaders in a shared space of reflection and inspiration.
This dialogue represents a continued step in Nabdh Watan and Awareness Foundation’s commitment to nurturing a resilient, vibrant Syria guided by the will of its people and their enduring hope for renewal.
October
- The Executive Director Trip to North America The Rev’d Dr Nadim Nassar
North America Visit: Strengthening Partnerships and Deepening Friendship
Reconnecting with the Foundation’s friends and partners in North America was deeply important not only to renew long-standing relationships, but also to deepen them and to create space for new friendships and partnerships to grow.
During this visit, the Executive Director spent time with friends and partners in New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Detroit, Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal. In New York, there was the opportunity to meet with the Assistant Bishop of New York and the Canon for Global Mission, with whom the Executive Director shared the vision and work of the Awareness Foundation. He also met with a group of
Episcopalian priests in Manhattan, who reflected together on the Foundation’s ministry and its engagement with communities affected by conflict. In addition, the Executive Director also met with members of the U.S. Board of Directors; discussing their vital role in supporting and strengthening our work in London and in Syria.
The Foundation is especially thankful to its chairman, and dear friend, Amin Al Latty, for inviting Rev’d Dr Nadim Nassar to preach at his church near Philadelphia and to speak about the Foundation’s work in Syria. This was a meaningful opportunity to share how the Foundation continues to support children, young people, and women — empowering them to remain in their homeland and to rebuild fractured communities after 14 years of war.
In Dearborn, the Executive Director was the guest of our dear friend Fr Halim Shukair, who generously hosted a special exhibition of paintings by Syrian children. This exhibition was also warmly hosted in Ottawa by our dear friend Huda Khandalaft at Parkdale United Church. These moments reminded us that the voices of children, expressed through art, often speak more powerfully than words.

Through their generous donations, they became part of the Awareness Family and played a meaningful role in supporting vulnerable young people living in war-affected regions.
The Foundation particularly thanks the walk leader, Richard Smart, whose guidance and dedication in planning the event were instrumental to its success. His commitment helped bring the community together in a shared act of peace and solidarity.

- Awareness Foundation Friends Retreat At Minster Abbey, Ramsgate, Kent
Something that is crucial in sustaining the work and mission of The Awareness Foundation is the relationship with its friends and supporters; the success of its efforts depends on working collaboratively as a community, as a family.
Which is why the Foundation was delighted to hold a Friends’ Retreat at Minster Abbey in Kent; hosted by the wonderful Benedictine Nuns.
Led by our vice-chairman, the Rev’d Alan Scotland, and with sessions lead by chairman Tom Roberts and Executive Director Rev’d Dr Nassar Nadim, it was an opportunity to reflect on the theme of ‘ Transforming Sorrow into Joy’ ; assisted by prayer, meditations on the Bible and discussions.
Everyone at Awareness Foundation left the retreat nourished and inspired.

- Media Exposure The passing of Pope Francis
Following the passing of Pope Francis, Rev’d Dr Nadim Nassar was invited as a guest speaker on various Arabic-language media outlets, including BBC Arabic and France 24.
Despite his illness being well known, the news of Pope Francis’s death came as a profound shock. He was an exceptional and deeply respected figure, whose humility and humanity left a lasting impression across the world. His upbringing in
Argentina and personal experience of oppression shaped a deep moral awareness and a particular sensitivity to injustice, especially in relation to the Middle East.
March
- Retreat Awareness Foundation Trustees
Staff and trustees of the Foundation gathered for a retreat at Minster Abbey to reflect on the organisation’s future direction. The peace and tranquillity of the Abbey provided a fitting setting in which to focus on the urgent and ongoing plight of communities in the Middle East.
Over the course of two days, the retreat combined structured discussions on the Foundation’s mission and vision for the next five years with periods of reflection and prayer. This enabled significant progress to be made in shaping a strategic framework designed to strengthen and enhance the effectiveness of the Foundation’s work.
The Foundation extends its sincere thanks to the Benedictine sisters for their
generous hospitality. Gratitude is also due to Chair of Trustees Tom Roberts, for his skilled leadership of the retreat, and to his wife, Sally, whose meditation sessions provided a valuable spiritual and reflective backbone for the discussions.
Alongside Rev’d Dr Nadim Nassar, Huda Nassar, and the Operations Coordinator, Mark Sylvester, trustees Carina Dingemans, Keith Brockbank, Charlie Hampton and Jake Stratton contributed thoughtfully and constructively. The retreat marked an important step towards advancing the Foundation’s shared vision of peace and hope in the Middle East.

- SOCIAL AND MEDIA @AwarenessPodcast A new Programme
The Awareness Podcast offers a free platform directed to Christians from the Middle East, wherever they may be in the world, addressing issues that affect their lives both in the region and in the diaspora.
In a world full of noise and division, the podcast explores difficult questions, including why faith which should be a source of peace sometimes becomes a source of conflict. In the inaugural episode, Talking in Secret , Rev’d Dr Nadim Nassar interviewed Rev’d Dr Roderick Constantine, a Lebanese University Lecturer and Catholic Maronite Parish Priest in Michigan, USA. Their conversation examines the complex relationship between religion and violence, offering fresh insights and perspectives on this critical issue.
The Awareness Foundation tries to keep everyone up to date with all the latest news and events through social media channels:

- Become a Friend Keep Making a Difference
The Foundation extends its heartfelt thanks to its volunteers, partners, regular supporters and one-off donors, whose generosity continues to transform lives across the Middle East.
To support the most effective planning and delivery of its vital programmes, the Foundation has introduced the Friends of Awareness Foundation initiative. This programme invites supporters to make a regular donation at a level of their choosing, providing a reliable source of funding that enables long-term impact.
Regular gifts allow the Foundation to train programme leaders well
in advance, procure essential materials, and offer reassurance to children, young people and women in urgent need of support that sustained help is available. Contributions can be pledged at any amount and cancelled at any time. Through this initiative, supporters play a vital role in strengthening the Foundation’s work and ensuring its continued reach and effectiveness.

INDEPENDENT EXAMINER’S REPORT TO THE TRUSTEES OF AWARENESS FOUNDATION
We have reviewed the accounts of Awareness Foundation for the year ended 31 December 2025, which comprise the Statement of Financial Activities (including summary income and expenditure account), Balance Sheet, Statement of Cash Flows and notes to the accounts including a summary of significant accounting policies. The accounts have been prepared in accordance with the Statement of Recommended Practice: Accounting and Reporting by Charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) issued on 16 July 2014.
Trustees’ Responsibility for the Accounts
As explained more fully in the statement of trustees’ responsibilities, the trustees, who are also the directors of Awareness Foundation for the purposes of company law, are responsible for the preparation of the accounts and for being satisfied that they give a true and fair view.
Accountants’ Responsibility
Our responsibility is to express a conclusion on the accounts. We conducted our review in accordance with International Standard on Review Engagements (ISRE) 2400 (Revised) to review historical accounts. ISRE 2400 (Revised) requires us to conclude whether anything has come to our attention that causes us to believe that the accounts, taken as a whole, are not prepared, in all material respects, in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) issued on 16 July 2014. ISRE 2400 (Revised) also requires us to comply with the ACCA code of Ethics and the FRC’s Ethical Standard.
Scope of the Assurance Review
A review of the accounts in accordance with ISRE 2400 (Revised) is a limited assurance engagement. We have performed procedures, primarily consisting of making enquiries of management and others within the charity, as appropriate, applying analytical procedures, and evaluating the evidence obtained. The procedures performed in a review are substantially less than those performed in an audit conducted in accordance with International Standards on Auditing (UK). Accordingly, we do not express an audit opinion on these accounts.
