## **PURPOSE**
Awareness Foundation was incorporated as a company limited by guarantee and registered in England No: 4637942 on 15 January 2003 and was registered as a charity No: 1099873 on 7 October 2003. On 10 October 2019 Awareness Foundation changed its registration to that of a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO).
The Foundation is an international humanitarian charity driven by Christian values which builds peace through education and training. Awareness Foundation works to empower Christians everywhere to be a counter force of love and peace to the intolerance and mistrust that now prevail in so many of our communities, and to build understanding between the faiths. We do this through education and encouraging dialogue.
Unlike other humanitarian organisations, we do not provide instant emergency relief. Instead, we provide interventions that address the need for genuine peace-making and reconciliation in the Middle East. Focused currently in Syria where military and political conflicts, violence and displacement have devastated the lives of millions, our two interrelated programmes “Little Heroes” and “Ambassadors for Peace” aim to equip and empower children and young adults to become agents of peace and reconciliation in their communities. To the best of our knowledge, no other organisation is delivering anything that compares to Little Heroes and Ambassadors for Peace.

Awareness Foundation continued its mission in 2022 to build peace through education and our work reached hundreds of children and young people in the Middle East. We have been developing new programmes to expand our reach, both are pilot programmes, one to be implemented in London in order to help vulnerable young adults and another to be implemented in Syria.
Outside the Middle East, the Foundation helps Christians live their faith fully and faithfully in this diverse, globalised world through education and through work with Christian denominations strengthening community bonds through PAX Videos (over 283,298 views) and numerous activities with other organizations and faiths to foster community harmony.

## **OUR PROGRAMMES and ACHIEVEMENTS in 2022**
In March 2022, the Syria conflict marked its 11[th] year. The war brought death, destruction and mass displacement. The prolonged conflict killed over half a million people and displaced half of Syria's prewar population. Over 6.2 million Syrians are internally displaced, and 5.6 million are refugees, predominantly in Lebanon, Jordan, and Turkey. (UNICEF)
The situation in Syria has been extremely devastating, Syrians are facing increasing suffering and hardships. The impact of the covid-19 pandemic; the shortage of fuel and energy; the lack of access to safe water, health care, nutrition, education, international sanctions and protection; in addition to the cholera outbreak, have all prevented the Syrians from living the dignified life that every human being deserves.
The hardships the families face from limited employment opportunities, skyrocketing prices, unprecedented levels of poverty and severe shortages of basic goods and services encourage corruption and monopoly.
Children have been impacted by violence, displacement, severed family ties, and lack of access to vital services caused by massive physical devastation. Nearly 5 million children born in Syria since March 2011 have known nothing but war and conflict. One-third of the children in Syria showed signs of psychological distress including anxiety, sadness, fatigue, or trouble sleeping. (UNICEF)
We are more determined than ever to support the children, teens and young adults in Syria through our programmes; to touch and transform their lives, to build their sense of well-being, self-esteem, resilience, and emotional health, and to develop their own creative peace-building activities and initiatives so that they promote peace and reconciliation in their diverse and wounded communities.
We aim to enable them to be true peacemakers to help their society to emerge from its devastation and destruction.
## **LITTLE HEROES**
_To help displaced and disadvantaged children ages 6 to 12 foster well-being, self-esteem, resilience, and emotional and mental health._
## **Five Little Heroes Modules –** August 2022
Awareness Foundation volunteers’ team under the supervision of our coordinator for the Middle East finalised the writing of the five modules for our Little Heroes programme. Many thanks to ‘Embrace the Middle East’ for funding these modules that are now complete and printed in a manual. The modules are:
1. The Fisherman and the Sea,
2. A Land’s Tale,
3. The Children of the king,
4. The Journey of Wonder, and
5. Treasure Hunt.

By creating these modules, we have started a small library of materials that will help leaders run the Little Heroes programme in the future without the presence of our volunteers’ team. These modules deliver self-explanatory topics and activities to Little Heroes’ leaders on how to run the programme in different regions in Syria as well as in different countries in the Middle East. These modules are well organised, user friendly, rich in activities, easy to follow and to the target.
Each module focuses on a particular topic; the activities and the details of the module vary according to the specific context of the module with an emphasis on the learning activities needed so it can demonstrate understanding and comprehension.
There is a huge need at present for Little Heroes modules in all regions of Syria, so children are saved from the organised gangs that abuse these children and control their lives and the lives of their families. It is very disturbing to see children begging in the streets instead of going to school. These children spend their days selling flowers in the streets of Syria and try to meet the target given to them by the organised gangs.
## **Christmas workshop for the leaders of Little Heroes –** November 2022
In cooperation with the Greek Catholic Diocese in Latakia, Syria, Awareness Foundation organised a workshop called "Christmas Crafts".
The workshop trained the leaders of Little Heroes Programme and other youth leaders to learn the skills of making Christmas crafts, so that the leaders can teach Little Heroes and young people how to make Christmas crafts in a cost-effective and affordable way especially given that families can’t afford to buy Christmas
decoration for their homes due to the hardship of limited employment opportunities and skyrocketing prices.

Our thanks to Archimandrite Michael Kandalaft who hosted Awareness Foundation leaders. And special thanks to Ramia Ibrahim, the creative designer and the main trainer in this workshop. Ramia Ibrahim interacted with the group and taught them a lot of different Christmas handcraft techniques specialised for children. The results were productive, creative, beautiful, and cost-effective.
**Expanding Pen and Paper Initiative –** December 2022
There are so many Little Heroes in Syria who are in need of our help. They feel forgotten and abandoned by the world. They lost their childhood and they are losing hope. We wanted them to feel loved, remembered and cared for especially during Christmas and the harsh winter. Winter is always hard on poor families especially in countries that suffer from violence and military conflicts.
This year, we decided to give a thousand children a gift of winter gear; a pair of gloves and two pairs of socks in addition to the stationery that we provide every year, so they can be protected against the freezing temperatures this winter. The stationery we provide includes notebooks, pens, pencils, sharpeners and erasers to ensure that these children get some help needed for their schoolwork.

The children who received our gift were carefully chosen from poor and devastated areas in Damascus, Aleppo, Homs, Tartous and Latakia. We wanted them to know that they are still in our hearts and minds, and that they are not forgotten.
We are incredibly grateful for our wonderful volunteers who are also our Ambassadors for Peace. They helped our Coordinator for the Middle East to send the gifts and make sure that the children received them in time. We couldn't have done that without the amazing support of so many fantastic individuals and churches who believe in the mission of Awareness Foundation.
**Christmas Tree Festival at St Mary Magdalene Church in London –** December 2022
Amid the 10[th] anniversary Christmas Tree Festival that St. Mary Magdalene Church celebrated this year, there were two trees dedicated to Awareness Foundation.
St Mary Magdalene Church adopts every three year a charity to support, and the proceeds from the entire Tree Festival in the church goes to the adopted charity.
Last year, Awareness Foundation was the adopted charity for three years, and we celebrated together this year our second year of this wonderful festival.
The Awareness Foundation team decorated the two Christmas trees with the Foundation's logo and the pictures of its events so that visitors to the Christmas Tree Festival would know more about us and donate to support the Foundation and its work and programmes.
Thanks to everyone who played any part in this joyful occasion, and for the proceeds that funded the Foundation's Little Heroes programme in the Middle East.

## **PIONEERS**
_to empower teens ages 13 to 17 living in war zones and places affected by conflicts, to learn, grow, and reach their full potential through personal empowerment, spiritual growth, relationship building, and community involvement._
The crisis in Syria has taken a devastating toll on education; leaving about 2.4 million children out of school, nearly 40% of whom are girls. Many of these children are the most vulnerable, including those recently displaced by insecurity, lack of learning spaces and economic hardship. (UNICEF)
Those who are attending school face various daily challenges including the psychological scars of traumatic experiences.
Awareness Foundation want to support those children affected by the crisis, so this year, we were able to finalise our Pioneers programme that seeks to equip and empower teens to develop their talents and their relational skills through activities and challenges. These activities work on building the teenagers’ spiritual, mental,
and physical abilities and strengthening their wellbeing and confidence in themselves to deal with various challenges they face in their lives.
The Pioneers programme is divided into four tracks: Spiritual, Social, Personal and Environmental. Through the activities in these tracks, our teens will be able to nurture their faith and deepen their knowledge. They will be able to value their freedom of choice and have a deeper understanding of belonging as well as discover their talents and develop them. These activities will motivate our Pioneers to engage with their social environment in a positive, cooperative and constructive manner.
A team of writers have been helping us write and finalize the content of the tracks. A graphic artist designed the main logo for the programme as well as the logos of all the tracks.
The Pioneers programme and its resources will preserve our teens from being drawn into the climate of violence, terrorism, drugs and prostitutions. The programme will help them be proactive and influential in their communities.

## **AMBASSADORS FOR PEACE**
_To enable young adults ages 18 to 35 to develop their own creative peace-building projects and promote peace and reconciliation in their diverse and broken communities._
## **Church Leaders Cooperation meetings** - June 2022
Revd Nadim Nassar, our founder and executive director, met with The Revd Dr Haroutune Selimian, the Head of the Armenian Protestant Church in Aleppo, at his office as he invited church leaders from all denominations to be present and meet with Revd Nassar. The meeting was very friendly and the discussion was about the cooperation between the pastors =A and Awareness Foundation in the future.
Rev Nassar also met with many of the heads of the - \ : 4 \ churches in the four cities he visited during his trip to e. ye int Syria in June - Damascus, Aleppo, Homs & Lattakia - l = ba = and he discussed with them the Awareness Foundation strategy of how we can serve the people of Syria, especially young people and children. The Christian ‘ - q ™) — leaders were incredibly supportive and encouraged us to expand our programmes to include more cities in Syria. 4s Our Middle East Coordinator in Syria, Elza Nasra has played an instrumental role in arranging all the meetings and activities for the Executive Director and the Director for the Middle East in Syria and she worked hard to make their trip a great success.

## **Ambassadors for Peace** - June 2022
Revd Nadim Nassar met with more than a hundred men and women from all Christian denominations in Aleppo, where they had a heart-to-heart discussion about their situation and suffering. Revd Nassar shared with them his experience of living in a civil war when he was studying in Lebanon during the 1980s. It was a heart-warming and an impressive session.
They also talked about the problems of migration, poverty and the lack of job opportunities in their devastated city of Aleppo.
Revd Nassar promised those young people that Awareness Foundation will be back in Aleppo in October 2022 to meet with them, to train them and to help them to face the challenges as they live in the eye of the storm of war and destruction. He assured them that Awareness Foundation is a charity of hope and

peacebuilding, and that we are determined to fulfil our promises to the young people in Aleppo and expand our Ambassador for Peace programme to empower more of them to find a better life.
**Ambassadors for Peace Aleppo** – October 27 to 29, 2022
For the first time, Awareness Foundation ran the Ambassadors for peace programme in Aleppo, Syria. The programme was hosted by the Revd Dr Haroutune Selimian at the Armenian Presbyterian Church, Bethel. The young participants came from seven different Christian denominations. Those young people joined the programme to become Ambassadors for Peace in their own broken and devastated city in order to make a difference.
Revd Dr Harroutune started the programme on Oct 27 with an opening message by supporting the young people and encouraging them to be equipped to take the responsibility to be a force for good in the middle of the difficult and critical time that their communities are going through.
The Director for the Middle East gave the first session on the role of the Ambassadors for Peace in the society and she focused on three points:
1. The concept of citizenship, including the duties and the rights of citizens.
2. Our role as ambassadors for Christ in this world.
3. When we are ambassadors for Christ, we are ambassadors of His peace.

Revd Nadim Nassar, our Executive Director, led a Bible study and unpacked the parable of the Good Samaritan from a Syrian perspective. The young Ambassadors were so engaged and challenged especially when linking the parable with their own situation and suffering through their first-hand experience.
The second session was also led by Revd Nassar, as he reflected on the distress in the world and he looked at:
- God's intervention,
- Our reaction to distress, and
- The role of the church and the individual.
The third session was led by Dr Kheirallah Atallah, assistant pastor of The Presbyterian Church in Latakia, Syria. He gave the Ambassadors an exciting presentation about how to overcome distress in the world (John 16:33). He reflected on the prevailing of Christ and focused on two points:
- How Christ conquered the world.
- How we can be like Christ and overcome distress through Him.
## We ran three workshops:
1. The first workshop was about each Ambassador creating a motto reflecting on a concept of peace and presenting it in the most exciting way they could. Then we exhibited the mottos in the creative ways they designed, and each one explained and presented their motto in their own way to the rest of the group.
2. The second workshop was about spreading peace through activities. The participants planned and prepared different activities which could be implemented in their churches and communities in the near future.

The group was divided into five small subgroups, and each subgroup worked hard to create and display their activity and then presented it to the rest of the groups. All the activities were ecumenical and targeted different groups of the society. They were so realistic, easy to implement and extremely helpful for everyone. They also created tentative budgets for their activities in order to plan for fundraising.
3. The third workshop was about how to spread peace through social media. The small groups designed different posters and produced short videos sending Peace messages locally, nationally, and internationally. These posters and videos could be posted on different social media apps. After they finished, they presented their work and discussed it with each other.
The closing of the Ambassadors for Peace Programme
The Ambassadors for Peace and the leaders gathered at Bethel, the Armenian Protestant Church, and they all had a moving closing ceremony and prayers.
Huda Nassar, The Director for The Middle East, read the Bible which was then followed by an emotional meditation by the pastor of the church the Revd Dr Haroutune Selimian.

During the closing ceremony Dr Selimian presented an art piece to Revd Nassar as a symbol of friendship, cooperation and appreciation. Sumaya Hallak, the international Syrian opera singer, a mutual friend of Awareness Foundation and Bethel, joined the closing ceremony and shared a wonderful song that elevated all to a wonderful spiritual atmosphere.
At the end of Ambassadors for Peace programme, everybody celebrated the Awareness Foundation’s 20[th] anniversary by cutting a special cake that was decorated with the Arabic logo of the Foundation.
Many thanks to all who worked very hard to make this programme such a wonderful success. We thank wholeheartedly our Coordinator for The Middle East, Elza Nasra, for her hard work in organising the programme in Aleppo under very difficult and complicated circumstances.
We are also grateful to The Revd Dr Haroutune Selimian, the Head of the Armenian Protestant Denomination in Syria, and his amazing team for hosting us in his church in Aleppo, and providing us with all the logistics that allowed the programme to run very smoothly.
We are also grateful for all the Bishops in Aleppo who encouraged their young people to take part in this gathering.
This programme would have not been possible without the commitment and hard work of a small group of Ambassadors for Peace who were trained before to become Ambassadors for Peace in Lattakia. They came all the way from Lattakia to Aleppo to assist us in this first training that took place in Aleppo. They shared with the new group their own experiences with the programme, and how those experiences transformed their lives to make them Ambassadors for Peace.

## **PAX**
_PAX is a growing library of short, faith-based videos, blogs, and podcasts including interviews, documentaries, and testimonies_
## **Why Christianity is not a religion (Part 2)**
Following the great success of why Christianity is not a religion part 1 with 22K views, our director decided to record a follow up to explore further this important topic. The new video is around 5 minutes and it was released this year.
## **Promotional video**
Thanks to Paul Brown Co-Founder and CEO of Baked Bean Media who volunteered to produce a video for us for our 20[th] anniversary that will be celebrated in September 2023.
The purpose of the video was to raise our profile, fundraise and show the fruits of what we have accomplished and done to reach where we are today.
The video was recorded in Holy Trinity Church Sloane Square where the Awareness Foundation was established and started its activities as a charity in 2003.
## **OTHER ACTIVITIES AND ACHIEVEMENTS**
## **AWARENESS LIVE**
Awareness Live is an online programme that started in 2021, and The Lent season of Awareness Live was one of the fruits of Awareness Foundation’s ecumenical partnerships.
In 2022, we ran our programme every Thursday of lent at 7:30 PM, and we were very grateful to all who participated with us online:

## **WORK-BASED LEARNING PLACEMENT & VOLUNTEERS**
## **University of Chester volunteers -** April 2022
Awareness Foundation has partnered with the University of Chester since 2019 so that it helps to advance careers of some students who want to volunteer. The work-based learning placement connects classroom learning to the real world and gives students opportunities to practice their skills in real world scenarios. It also develops students’ soft skills and gives them a chance to observe professionals in action. It helps students to network with potential employers and opens doors for their professional future.
We have been offering 150-hour work-based learning placements that help students develop the required skills in the workplace such as teamwork, communication, problem solving, project planning, task management, and organization. It also helps further develop the volunteers’ social media and marketing skills. The students/volunteers develop practical and work-related skills, build their professional network and enhance their employability.
The students/volunteers start the placement by taking onboarding orientation, Health & safety training, and safeguarding. Then they get introduced to our mission, vision, policies and procedures before they start working.
Awareness Foundation thanks the volunteers at the end of the placement for their efforts, shares with them the impact of their hard work, provides them with an evaluation of their progress and offers them a recommendation letter. We make sure to let them know that they are appreciated and welcomed to come back again in the future.
The University of Chester acknowledged our partnership by sending us a certificate of appreciation in recognition of the excellent work-based learning opportunities.
We value our partnership with the university of Chester and we look forward to collaborating with the work-based learning students each year.
## **Established Volunteers**
At Awareness Foundation, our doors are always open to volunteers. Our volunteers lend their expertise on the board of Trustees, on fundraising campaigns and at special events.
Through our volunteers we reduce our operating costs and in particular the costs of hiring a full time or part time employee. The collaboration between our charity and volunteers is beneficial for both parties; it gives the opportunity to volunteers to get hands-on experience in their field of expertise, and provides our charity with the support and help needed.
Awareness Foundation takes volunteering earnestly, and it is as important as raising money, both components not only help our charity survive, but also thrive.

## **PEACE WALK**
**Westminster Abbey to St Paul’s Cathedral -** 15 October 2022
**Peace Walk** is an initiative of the Awareness Foundation to support young people who live in war zones especially in Syria, Lebanon and Iraq. The programme has been supported strongly by our Royal Patron HRH The Countess of Wessex. This year the walk took place in London between Westminster Abbey and St. Paul’s cathedral on 15 October 2022.
The purpose of the walk was to visit different churches on the way between Westminster Abbey and St. Paul’s cathedral and ask those churches to pray for peace in Syria, the Middle East and the World. At Westminster Abbey, we were very warmly welcomed by Canon Tricia Hillas and Bishop Anthony Ball who have been dear friends for the Foundation for many years. Before we left the Abbey to start the walk, Bishop Anthony took us to visit the famous and very special Jerusalem Chamber and prayed for the group and the Foundation. We attended a eucharist service at the chapel of St Edward the Confessor at the Abbey celebrating with them their annual celebration “National Pilgrimage Day”.
During the walk, we visited five other churches to celebrate the ministry of peace that the Awareness Foundation embraces East and West. The entire walk was around 10 miles plus our stops in those different churches. Revd Dr Stephen Evans welcomed us at his church of St Marylebone and opened Jerusalem Chapel for us to visit.
The Peace Walk was led by our dear friend Richard Smart, who is a Trustee of the Foundation. We were enriched and impressed by his deep knowledge of London and its landmarks. We are extremely grateful for Richard to lead this important initiative for the foundation.
It was indeed a fantastic opportunity to raise funds and promote the work of the Foundation.
We would like to thank wholeheartedly Jamie Storer for his creative work of designing the lovely picture that was printed on the T-shirts that we wore during the walk. We would like to thank also Iyad Kanaan and his company KNI Printing for donating the T-shirts and printing the picture on them. Our gratitude goes also to all the participants who worked tirelessly to spread the word and raise funds.

## **ANNUAL CHRISTMAS DRINK**
On December 12[th] 2022 The Awareness Foundation organised its annual Christmas Drink for the friends and the supporters of its ministry. We shared with our friends our activities during the year 2022 as well as the strategy of the Foundation for the near future.
During the evening, we showed our friends and supporters the video which was made specially to celebrate our 20[th] anniversary.
The team and the Vice Chairman the Rev Alan Scotland gave certificates of appreciation to some of the volunteers who worked hard to support the team and the work of the Foundation in so many ways for several years.

## **SAD NEWS AND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT**
Christopher Bunting passed on 10 January 2023. Chris had been valiantly battling cancer for some time but in the end, he passed away quietly, surrounded by his family. This represents an enormous loss for the Awareness Foundation community.
Chris accompanied the Awareness Foundation from the start 20 years ago. He offered all his love, affection and wisdom, as a friend and also as a valued member of the Board of Trustees, and we will never forget him and he will be always missed and remembered.
Over the years Chris introduced the Awareness Foundation to Grace Church on-the-Hill in Toronto, where he was a faithful member of the community and served with distinction as a churchwarden until recently, and thereby established the various connections that now exist between the Foundation and many Canadian organizations and supporters. He served on the Canadian support committee, and also chaired Awareness Foundation America for a while.
Chris' involvement and support was truly singular - loyal and consistent across circumstances and time.
Last year, the Awareness Foundation honoured Chris' many contributions to the Foundation at a dinner in Toronto, and presented him with an inscribed antique platter from Syria. It was a timely tribute.
Good bye our beloved brother and friend Chris. May the risen Lord accept you in his eternal light and comfort our hearts with his Holy Spirit.

## **AWARENESS FOUNDATION**
The Trustees, who are also the directors for the purposes of company law, present their report and accounts for the year ended 31 December 2022.
The accounts have been prepared in accordance with the accounting policies set out in note 1 to the accounts and comply with the charity’s governing document. They also comply with the Companies Act 2006 and the Statement of Recommended Practice “Accounting and Reporting by Charities” issued in March 2005.
None of the trustees has any beneficial interest in the charity (or its wholly owned company).
All of the Trustees are also members of the charitable company and guarantee to contribute a maximum of £10 in the event of a winding up. The Trustees have assessed the major risks to which the charity is exposed and are satisfied that the systems are in place to mitigate exposure of the major risks.
The charity owns and controls a company limited by guarantee. All activities are conducted by the Charity itself; the company does not trade.
Significant external risks to funding are covered by the strategic plan which addresses the need the need for the diversification of funding and activities. Internal risks are addressed by procedures for the authorisation of all transactions and projects which also aim to ensure consistent quality of delivery for all operational aspects for the charity’s activities. These procedures are periodically reviewed to ensure that they remain appropriate to the evolving scope of the work conducted by the charity.
## **STATEMENT OF TRUSTEES’ RESPONSIBILITIES**
The Trustees, who are also the directors of The Awareness Foundation for the purposes of company law, are responsible for preparing the Trustees’ Report and the accounts in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice).
Company law requires the Trustees to prepare accounts for each financial period which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs for the charity and of the incoming resources and application of resources, including the income and expenditure, of the charitable company for that period.

In preparing these accounts, the Trustees are required to: select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently; observe the methods and principles in the Charities SORP; make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent; and prepare the accounts on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the charity will continue in operation.
The Trustees are responsible for keeping adequate accounting records that disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and enable them to ensure that the accounts comply with the Companies Act 2006. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.
The company is entitled to the exemption from the audit requirement contained in section 477 of the Companies Act 2006, for the year ended 31 December 2022 and no audit has been carried out. An Independent Examination of the accounts was completed. No member of the company has deposited a notice, pursuant to section 476, requiring an audit of these accounts under the requirements of the Companies Act 2006.
The directors acknowledge their responsibilities for ensuring that the company keeps accounting records which comply with section 386 of the Act and for preparing accounts which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the company as at the end of the financial year and of its incoming resources and application of resources, including its income and expenditure, for the financial period in accordance with the requirements of sections 394 and 395 and which otherwise comply with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 relating to accounts, so far as applicable to the company.
The accounts were approved by the Board on DATE 17 February 2023.

## **Note 1 Basis of preparation**
These accounts have been prepared under the historical cost convention with items recognised at cost or transaction value unless otherwise stated in the relevant note(s) to these accounts.
The accounts have been prepared in accordance with the Statement of Recommended Practice:
Accounting and Reporting by Charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) issued on 16 July 2014.
The charity constitutes a public benefit entity as defined by FRS 102.
## **Note 2 Accounting policies**
## **Recognition of income**
Income is included in the Statement of Financial Activities when: the charity becomes entitled to the resources; and it is more likely than not that the trustees will receive the resources; and the monetary value can be measured with sufficient reliability.
## **Liability recognition**
Liabilities are recognised where it is more likely than not that there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to pay out resources and the amount of the obligation can be measured with reasonable certainty.
## **Creditors**
The charity has creditors which are measured at settlement amounts less any trade discounts
## **Tangible fixed assets for use by charity**
These are capitalised if they can be used for more than one year, and cost at least £1,000.
Tangible fixed assets are stated at cost less depreciation.
Depreciation is provided on fixtures, fittings and equipment at 25% per annum, straight line basis.
## **Debtors**
Debtors (including trade debtors and loans receivable) are measured on initial recognition at settlement amount after any trade discounts or amount advanced by the charity. Subsequently, they are measured at the cash or other consideration expected to be received.

## **INDEPENDENT EXAMINER’S REPORT TO THE TRUSTEES OF AWARENESS FOUNDATION**
We have reviewed the accounts of Awareness Foundation for the year ended 31 December 2022, which comprise the Statement of Financial Activities (including summary income and expenditure account), Balance Sheet, Statement of Cash Flows and notes to the accounts including a summary of significant accounting policies. The accounts have been prepared in accordance with the Statement of Recommended Practice: Accounting and Reporting by Charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) issued on 16 July 2014.
## **Trustees’ Responsibility for the Accounts**
As explained more fully in the statement of trustees’ responsibilities, the trustees, who are also the directors of Awareness Foundation for the purposes of company law, are responsible for the preparation of the accounts and for being satisfied that they give a true and fair view.
## **Accountants’ Responsibility**
Our responsibility is to express a conclusion on the accounts. We conducted our review in accordance with International Standard on Review Engagements (ISRE) 2400 (Revised) to review historical accounts. ISRE 2400 (Revised) requires us to conclude whether anything has come to our attention that causes us to believe that the accounts, taken as a whole, are not prepared, in all material respects, in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) issued on 16 July 2014. ISRE 2400 (Revised) also requires us to comply with the ACCA code of Ethics and the FRC’s Ethical Standard.
## **Scope of the Assurance Review**
A review of the accounts in accordance with ISRE 2400 (Revised) is a limited assurance engagement. We have performed procedures, primarily consisting of making enquiries of management and others within the charity, as appropriate, applying analytical procedures, and evaluating the evidence obtained. The procedures performed in a review are substantially less than those performed in an audit conducted in accordance with International Standards on Auditing (UK). Accordingly, we do not express an audit opinion on these accounts.

## **Conclusion**
Based on our review, nothing has come to our attention that causes us to believe that the accounts have not been prepared:
- so as to give a true and fair view of the state of charity affairs for the year ended 31 December 2022 and of its incoming resources and application of resources, including its income and expenditure, for the period then ended;
- in accordance with United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice; and
- in accordance with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 and FRS 102.
## **Use of our report**
This report is made solely to the charity’s trustees, as a body, in accordance with section 43 of the Charities Act 1993 and regulations made under section 44 of that Act. Our review work has been undertaken so that we might state to the charity’s trustees those matters we are required to state to them in a reviewers’ report and for no other purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we do not accept or assume responsibility to anyone other than the charitable company and its trustees as a body, for our review work, for this report, or for the opinions we have formed.
