## Introduction
The Veterinary Christian Fellowship (VCF) has been operating since the 1960’s and was an affiliated member of UCCF (Universities and Colleges Christian Fellowship) for many years.
VCF has been a registered charity since May 2003 (Charity no: 1099450).
VCF has 6 trustees and there is a larger active committee of 13, which currently incorporates 1 of the trustees. 1 additional committee member stepped down during the year.
## Aims
VCF aims:
- To unite Christians within the veterinary and veterinary nursing professions through their common loyalty to the Lord Jesus Christ; and to assist them in the integration of their faith into their professional lives.
- To encourage and support Christian vet and vet nursing students during their studies.
- To support the work of vets and vet nurses called to work and witness abroad.
## Funding
Funding is received primarily through individual donations and a suggested annual donation for members. Some income is received from event fees. Gift Aid is claimed on eligible giving.
## Newsletter
A newsletter is produced bi-monthly which is emailed to just over 800 people and just over 200 paper copies are sent out.
## Membership
There are about 850 people currently registered as members on our database.
About 30 people were added during 2021.
3 requested cancellation of their membership
4 passed away.
The membership continued to be checked through, and a number of folk were removed having never responded to anything over about a 10 year period.
## Conferences
The VCF Weekend took place online over the weekend of 5th – 7th March. Over 150 people were registered including 120 vets, 19 students, 10 Vet Nurses, 4 non vets and 13 family members.
Revd. Michael Healy was the guest speaker for the weekend. He gave a series of talks entitled “God, what are you like?” looking at the various characteristics of God. He took his text for the weekend from Colossians, one of the Bible’s New Testament letters where chapter 1 and verse 15 says of Jesus “He is the image of the invisible God.”
## Students and young graduates
A number of ‘student Zooms’ were held throughout the year. These allowed students to meet and discussed a range of topic varying from clinical workshops to ethics and advice on getting and remaining in employment.
The ‘EMS Database’ was updated during the year and continued to be sent to those students requesting it. This provides contacts of VCF
members working in veterinary practices who are willing to have VCF students come and gain work experience with them. As work experience is required for completion of the veterinary degree this provides an excellent resource for students to gain skills and practical training in a supportive environment.
Hannah McClintick, Vikki Wyse and Kerry Williams continued to support the students and those who have recently graduated.
## Local groups, including VCF Scotland and VCF Ireland
VCF has a number of small groups which meet around the UK where members can make friends locally and support each other. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, some local groups were able to meet in person with social distancing, but for most this was not possible until the latter part of the year. A number met together on Zoom.
## Missionary Support
VCF continues to be in contact with various missionaries serving throughout the world in many different communities and situations. Mary Kim, the Missionary Liaison Rep, maintains regular communication with them so VCF can support them through prayer and financially where possible. VCF encourages individual members or local groups to connect with the missionaries to get to know them so we can enhance our support of them further.
## Involvement with wider Veterinary Organisations
In person Veterinary Conferences restarted in the autumn, and VCF was able to have a stand at the British Vet Nursing Association Congress and the London Vet Show as well as a breakfast meeting at British Cattle Veterinary Association Conference.
A formal presence at these events publicises the existence of VCF to the wider veterinary community and enables networking of members who are attending. This remains a main way in which new members come to know of VCF and request to join.
## Website
John Knight continued to manage the VCF Website to keep people up to date.
## Committee
Committee meetings continued to be held monthly via Zoom during the year, which allowed for fellowship and support for one another as well as the opportunity to pray for and plan the work of VCF.
In November, the committee met together for a weekend in Wigton, and via Zoom for those unable to be there in person, to pray together and to seek God’s will for the way forwards for the fellowship.
Stacey Vickery joined the committee in 2021 as Vet Nurse Liaison, and Bob Trelogan stepped down after serving on the committee for 4 years.
## AGM 2020
On Saturday 8th March, during the Virtual VCF Weekend, Stephen Anderson chaired the AGM. The Roles of President, Treasurer and Secretary were voted on, and those currently in the roles remained so. (President Ann O’Flynn, Treasurer Jenni Hay and Secretary Ali Budgell)
## Finance
In 2021 VCF received an unrestricted income of £26,348. Over 80% of this came from donations and gift aid claimed on those donations, with the remainder coming from the Virtual Weekend fees. Overall, income was slightly decreased compared to 2020, primarily due to the VCF weekend being held virtually rather than in person.
The total expenditure for 2021 was £33,652, which represented an increase on expenditure from 2020 when most activities were curtailed due to the Covid pandemic restrictions. Of that, just over £3000 was spent on attending wider Veterinary Conferences and £3500 was given in donations to VCF linked missionaries. The Virtual weekend expenditure was £3839, with excess Virtual Weekend fees being given to the missionaries.
Although expenditure was higher than income in 2021, this was deliberate as VCF has chosen to invest some of the reserves in activities which will enhance the charitable aims and objectives and increase the membership, and therefore impact, of VCF in the future.
