Achievements and Performance

The charity seeks to achieve these objectives by its close work with Copii pentru Cristos (“CpC Romania”), a Romanian registered charity, by raising funds and other aid to support the work of CpC Romania. This is achieved through the delivery of regular newsletters to a large number of supporters in England and Northern Ireland to keep them updated and interested in the work. This, together with occasional presentation visits to churches by Trustees, does prompt financial support and camp visitor interest. In the UK Children for Christ England (“CfC England”), together with it’s team of supporters in Northern Ireland, has continued to work closely with its sister charity, Children for Christ Scotland (CfC Scotland”). CfC Scotland is a charity registered in Scotland with similar aims, namely to support the work of CpC Romania and Copii Pentru Hristos, Moldova. In this financial year grants totalling £33,000 were sent to CoC Romania. £24,700 as annual support to assist in the costs of holiday camps, bible study materials, leaders training packs. A grant of £2,700 was sent in March 2021 and a further £22,000 in November 2021. A further £8,300 grant specifically for the necessary roof repairs to the main building was sent in March 2021.

Due to the enforced travel restrictions in place because of the COVID pandemic there were no Trustee and or supporter visits to Varifurile in the reporting year.

Where requested the English charity will share its experience of the Romanian camp site with visiting teams but the responsibility for the visit remains entirely with the leaders of the visiting teams. Whilst not organising the teams the charity does seek to co-ordinate the visits so as not to overload the Romanian campsite with too many volunteers at any one time.

CfC Scotland collects, sorts and pack good quality second hand clothing and household items. Our team of supporters in Northern Ireland undertakes similar work. Each Spring, together with CfC Scotland, a lorry is organised to collect the boxes of clothing together with any other aid that has been donated. This is then transported to the site in Romania. CpC Romania gives some to needy local families and also sells some locally to raise funds to support the work, whilst other aid is used directly in the running or development of the campsite. The cost of the transportation of these goods is shared equally between CfC England and CfC Scotland and in this financial year the transportation costs borne by each charity was £3,597.

The UK exit from the EU caused issues with the aid consignment sent in April 2021. The aid lorry was held by Romanian customs until the EU import tax was paid on the goods. This had a significant financial impact on both the demurrage costs of the transport for the UK and the customs duty paid for by Copii Pentru Cristos in Romania. Significant changes have been implemented by CfC Scotland as to how we now manage and send aid to minimise the impact of these customs checks and where practicable to have the customs duties paid in advance.

Financial Review

Fund raising is mainly carried out through visits to churches, which have personal links with the trustees and other personal efforts of the trustees.

During the year the trustees have continued to seek to raise funds by promoting the work through regular newsletters fo supporters and through a range of fund raising initiatives as “well as encouraging supporters to make regular donations. A team of dedicated supporters in Northern freland continue to play a vital role in assisting with the fund raising.

As a small charity the income is very dependent upon the efforts of the individual trustees and supporters to publicise the work of the charity. As a result income is expected to fluctuate significantly from one year to the next. With that in mind the funds raised during 2021 were acceptable.

Plans for Future Periods

Together with CfC Scotland and the team in Northern Ireland it is our intention to continue to raise support for the on-going work in Romania and to support the leaders in Romania practically, financially and through prayer.

The ongoing promotion of the work by visits to interested churches will continue together with regular mailing to individual supporters. Other fund raising ideas are to be investigated throughout the coming year. We are also preparing for the deputation visit of the team from Romania in the latter part of 2022.

Initial investigations to the potential amalgamation of the trusteeships across Scotland and ~ England and bringing in the team in Northern Ireland more formally showed that the present. - structure currently serves each charity satisfactorily in their geographical area, However, should the amalgamation of the England and Scotland charities prove to be more beneficial to the work in Romania then that would then be considered at that time.

Trustees’ responsibilities in relation to the financial statements

The trustees are responsible for maintaining proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and enables them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011 and the Statement of Recommended Practice, Accounting and Reporting by Charities (SORP 2000).

The trustees are also responsible for safeguarding the assets for the charity and hence taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

By Order of the Trustees John Motard , Chairman of the Trustees 25" July 2022
