concern|Para 1.23|n/a| ## **Treasurer’s Report for the year 2023-2024** The financial year 1 May 2023 to 30 April 2024 has been another solid year for the Edington Music Festival Association. We started the year with £127,249 in the bank and finished the year with funds of £131,560 a net income over expenditure of £4,311. We continue to experience lower income than we had pre-pandemic; this has now been consistent over the last few Festivals. With increased Festival running costs, and lower income, there is concern that we are approaching the position where the income from the previous Festival will not fund the grant for following year’s Festival. We currently have 132 members in good standing which is one fewer than last year (which in turn was three fewer than the previous year). There are some subscriptions outstanding as some people renew membership at the festival. If you have not already paid your subscription we would be very grateful if you could make any outstanding payments as soon as possible. Unfortunately, some of our members have passed away over the last year or have given up driving and are no longer able to attend so if you have friends and or acquaintances who have an interest in choral music, please encourage them to support the Festival and join the Association. With the increases in interest rates the Association is now receiving a little income from interest rates. However, we now incur bank charges on some of our accounts and for some cheque deposits, so we would be grateful if members would consider paying subscriptions and donations, by standing order, or by electronic transfer (bank mandate and electronic payment details and methods are available on request). We have reviewed our banking arrangements and despite incurring these small bank charges we feel our arrangements remain appropriate. We have moved all our ‘spare’ funds into an Investment Fund which will ensure that we gain maximum benefit from all funds. Our day-to-day expenses remain very low. Postage costs are significantly higher nowadays and we would urge all members, to let us have their email address so they can receive the newsletter by email. During the financial year 2023-2024 grants were made for: - £20,000 – for the 2023 Festival  £3,000 for the Edington Festival Award 2023-2024. The majority of our ‘spare’ funds are invested in the CCLA investment fund which delivered £8,654 income this year (vs £1,673 in the previous year) which is around 9.3% return on our investment. Is should be noted that we had budgeted on the return at least covering the £3,000/year Edington Festival Award so we are now more than covering our commitment and replenishing the investment fund after a few years of underperformance. We keep this investment under review and currently do not believe any changes to investment strategy are required. The CCLA fund is ethical, is in line with the Church of England’s investment guidance and provides a good level of expected return within an acceptable risk profile. It is intended that the investment income from this fund will provide for grants for the annual Award and be able to support EMFA growth and other activities. The Edington Festival Award has been made possible from the generous legacy left to us by Nesta Raisey which has been supplemented by additional EMFA funds. We would like to encourage everyone to consider EMFA in your wills to further strengthen the Association’s position and enable future developments. The Association maintains a reserves policy as recommended by the Charity Commission and this has been maintained at £10,000. These funds are maintained within our CCLA Investment Fund so that they can assist our overall investment income.
