## **Objectives & Activities**
Friends of Fircroft PTA was established to help develop effective relationships between the staff, parents and others associated with Fircroft Primary School to help advance the education and wellbeing of pupils.
Our main activities involve fundraising activities to contribute funds to:
- Improved facilities and new equipment at the school;
- Educational resources; Books & Reading Spaces; Inspire Creativity & Outdoor play;
- School trips - reducing the financial burden on families and carers.
## **Achievements & Performance**
The trustees declare that they have complied with their duty to have due regard to the guidance on public benefit published by the Charity Commission in exercising their powers or duties.
## **Summary of the Main Achievements for the Year**
The charity has made funding contributions to the following areas of the school:
Equipment and enhancement of the environment of the school
- New benches £2,000

- A new shelter for reception to enhance outdoor learning £7,480
Enhancing the curriculum and learning experience for the children
- A new Yoto player, headphones and audio books for KS1- £495.32

School trips to support the curriculum
- Winter sounds coaches contribution - £245

## **Financial Review**
## **Statement of the Charity's Policy on Reserves**
Since 2015 the Charity has been building up its cash balance to make a significant contribution to major capital developments at the school in 2017/18, which culminated in the £37,000 contribution to playground development in September 2018. Over £17,500 was contributed to create a new library in April 2019. Between February 2020 and May 2022, £35,674 has been contributed to purchase Interactive Whiteboards for all 15 classrooms and one for music lessons in the Old Nursery space. In 2022/23 the charity contributed £25,153 to the school which mainly focused on enhancing the curriculum due to continued cuts in government contributions, school trips and a new reception shelter.
Whilst the Charity has aimed to retain a minimum balance of £2,500, in recent years the reserve balance has been higher due to caution post-covid. Pupil numbers are declining and each year a twoform entry class is replaced by a one-form entry reception class which reduces our ability to fundraise large amounts for capital projects in single financial years. The charity aims to be able to continue to support the schools curriculum, ensure the school trips are inclusive for all and build up reserves for larger school projects in future years. It’s also considered necessary to hold higher reserves at the end of the school year as funding is committed for the new school year prior to new funds being raised.
## **Financial Review**
The Charity has made significant contributions to the school in line with the reserves statement above. It has also had another successful year with its fundraising activities particularly the two main events – the Christmas and Summer Fairs. As a result, we have been able to support a range of activities within the school including funding many enhancements to the curriculum and a new reception shelter.

## **Structure, Governance & Management**
The Charity is operated on a simple governance structure that provides appropriate separation of duties and proportionate risk management. Co-Chairs, Treasurer and Secretary.
The Treasurers role is to manage the finances, providing separation of duties to ensure that monies collected are accounted for and banked quickly and effectively.
The trustees are supported by PTA class representatives, parents, carers, teachers and other associated with the school. The Co-Chairs convene a meeting every term to discuss activities and priorities and make decisions on funding. In the absence of a meeting, or low attendance at a meeting, funding requirements are communicated to the committee in writing.

**Respective responsibilities** The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in **of trustees and examiner** accordance with the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).
The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Act and that an independent examination is needed. It is my responsibility to:
- examine the accounts under section 145 of the Charities Act,
- to follow the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the Act, and
- to state whether particular matters have come to my attention
- **Basis of independent** My examination was carried out in accordance with general Directions given
- **examiner’s statement** by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair’ view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
## **Independent examiner's statement**
In connection with my examination, no material matters have come to my attention which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:
- the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; or
- the accounts did not accord with the accounting records; or
- • the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
