Trustee Annual Report 2024

Introducton

The past year has been a remarkable journey for our community hall, marked by numerous successful events and significant achievements. As trustees, we are proud to present this annual report, highlighting the key activities and milestones of the year.

Events and Actvites

Throughout the year, our hall has been a hub of activity, hosting a variety of events that brought the community together. In November 2023, we hosted a highly successful Curry and Quiz night, with the room packed to capacity. Monthly "Stitch" craft club meetings continue, providing a space for mental health and well-being, where people come along, have a chat over a cup of coffee, and enjoy various craft activities. The hall was also well used by the young farmers for meetings and practices for annual drama, dance, public speaking, and other competitions.

Community Engagement

In March, we supported the young farmers with a St David’s Day "All Welsh" quiz, which was very well attended by a good cross-section of the community. The YFC made a generous donation of £300 towards the installation of WiFi, which has been gratefully received and installed. This will allow us more scope to hold training courses in the future. Powys County Council booked the hall for elections in May and June. Also in June, we celebrated the 80th anniversary of D Day with a fish and chip supper, a quiz, and some poems written by WWII soldiers.

Grant Funding and Projects

The biggest news of the year is the grant funding we received. The application process was challenging, involving extensive work behind the scenes. Initially, we received only part of the grant, but thanks to some other organisations not meeting the criteria fully, we were eventually awarded the full amount. The works began on 19 July and are progressing satisfactorily. We hope this will make a significant difference in terms of reduced electricity bills, improved warmth, and increased footfall.

Challenges and Future Plans

Due to ongoing works, we had to turn down a couple of bookings for the hall. However, once the works are complete, we plan to organise a big reopening event and look at a forward schedule of events to attract more people. We are also considering restarting the Mother and Toddler group if someone volunteers to run it

Trustee Training and Fundraising

As a Charitable Trust, we continue to work with Toni at PAVO, seeking further funding and understanding our duties as trustees. Training for trustees will be provided on Wednesday 27 November at the Felinfach Griffin. Additionally, some of us have signed up to Easyfundraising, where online purchases from various retailers can generate donations for the hall.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the past year has been filled with achievements and challenges, but our commitment to the community remains strong. We look forward to another successful year of community activities at Llandefalle
