Structure, Governall¢e and Management The Carlisl¢ Diocese Retired Clergy and Dep¢ndants Fund is govemed by its declaration of trust dated I. May 2003. The truste¢ is constituted as a charitable ¢ompany limited by membership guarante¢s. Th¢ sole trustee is determined by the trus¢ deed. Full details. including th¢ results of ihe Retired Clergy and Dependants Fund. are included in the audit¢d financial ststements of the trust¢¢. Objec¢ives and A¢¢iviti¢s Th¢ trust¢¢ has considered the Charity Commission's guidance on public b¢nefit and, in particular, the specific guidance for charities on th¢ preveiition or relief of poverty. The Retired Clergy and Dependants Fund provides for the relief of pov¢ty by assisting retired lergy> licensed lay workers or deserted spouses of clergy who reside or served in the Dioo¢s¢ of Carlisl¢ and their dependants by the provision of grants and loans, Achievements Perfornianee During th¢ year grants totalling £30,544 w¢r¢ paid to assist 15 r¢tir¢d clergy or their dependants. In addition, 305 retired clergy or their dependants were provided with a grant of £100 each at Christmas. The total value of grants paid was £75.734 and was fvnd¢d from investment in¢ome of £35,809, a contribution from the G & A B¢nnett Trust of £23,293, and reserves. Financial Review At the 31 St D¢cember 2022 the balance on the capital fund of th¢ Retired Clergy and Dependants Fund was £1,322,958, a d¢¢r¢ase of £154,985 - as a result of decr¢as¢s in the valuation of investments. The accumulated deficit of income less costs was £7.862- funds will be rebuilt to cover the payment of Any grants &pprov¢d in the following y¢ar.
