Its registered address is: 12 Old Mill Close, Burley in Wharfedale, Ilkley. LS29 7RU. **The current Trustees are** : Duncan Ault (Chair) Andrew Wriglesworth (Secretary) Mark Elsworth (Treasurer) Rachel Beverley-Stevenson Harvey Bosomworth Robin Dearing Janine Edwards Barbara Holden Loraine Hughes (Publicity) Shirley Moffat Sam Needham Niccola Swan Sylvia Tilford Nick Turnbull (Membership) Debz Allis (appointed March 2025) Pauline Warnock (appointed May 2025) In line with the Constitution, Sam Needham, Shirley Moffat, Robin Dearing and Barbara Holden stood down as Trustees at the AGM in January 2025 and were duly reelected. Debz Allis and Pauline Warnock were co-opted as trustees during the year and their appointment will be confirmed at our AGM. Sylvia Tilford has indicated that she will be resigning as a Trustee at the AGM for personal reasons and Nick Turnbull has stood down as he has moved outside the village. Its object is to promote any charitable purposes for the benefit of the inhabitants of Burley in Wharfedale, Burley Woodhead and Stead by any such means that are deemed to be exclusively charitable according to the laws of England and Wales **.** The charity is run by a committee of elected and co-opted trustees who have control of the association and its property and funds. There should be at least 3 and not more than 18 members of the Committee, all of whom must be members of the Trust. New trustees are recruited and co-opted onto the board by the existing trustees and elected at the AGM. All trustees give their time voluntarily. The Trust would like to thank all its trustees and volunteers for their considerable time and efforts towards the furtherance of its aims and objects. The Committee must hold at least 4 meetings a year. A quorum at a committee meeting is 5 members. The Trust has a number of powers set out in the constitution which may be exercised only in promoting its object. Membership of the Trust is open to any individual or organisation interested in promoting the charity. Membership is by annual or lifetime subscription. ## **ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE 2024/2025** The Trust has had another successful year with membership 877 (2023/24 879). With new housing now being occupied in the village it is hoped to increase this number in the current year. The former Burley Educational Trust (BET) is now fully integrated into the Community Trust and its assets and income are included as a designated fund within BWCT. This year we have continued to distribute some of the accumulated funds and income to the two primary schools in the village for various projects, educational events and hardship awards on school trips. We have also helped fund a youth worker to run an Outreach secular youth programme in the village and also supported individual education related cases. In 2023 BWCT took over the overall responsibility for the Burley Summer Festival to provide a legal entity for this important week long village event and also the Moor Run in November. It also enables us to claim gift aid on public donations and to amalgamate our insurance costs for the two entities. The Festival is organised by a separate committee with a designated BWCT trustee and continued its great success with a variety of events during August including the Car Show, Street Market, Dog Show, Opera, Quizzes and Trails, and the ever popular Scarecrow Trail. It also runs the Moor Run and Ceilidh which take place in the Autumn with over 100 attending each. In addition to subscriptions and donations from members and the income from the former BET investments we have received extra income from Burley Parish Council, Shipley Community Chest, Burley Trojans and Burley Cricket Club . ## **BURLEY IN WHARFEDALE COMMUNITY TRUST TRUSTEES’ REPORT YEAR ENDED 30th SEPTEMBER 2025** ## **ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE 2024/25 (continued)** We also received a significant bequest of £37,049. Gift Aid on membership and donations of nearly £2,000 was claimed in the year. Our major fundraising effort this year has been aimed at providing a Pump and Balance Bike Track in the recreation ground for youngsters of all ages. To date we have received funding and had pledges of over £220,000 with contributions from private donors, the Trust and Parish Council funding, local bike clubs and bike manufacturers, Ilkley Round Table, village events, and local donors. The contractor for the work has been appointed and it is aimed to commence work in Spring 2026. We maintain the Scalebor pavilion and car park and we have again contributed to the drainage maintenance of the Scalebor playing field during the year. We continued our involvement in funding, organising and running the annual Christmas Lights display, lights switch on and markets . In 2025 this was done without Tom Sumner who has been absent through illness and who started the lights over 40 years ago. We wish him well and hope that he returns next year to help the fantastic set of volunteers now involved with this event We also run the Annual Duck Race in June with 4000 ducks on the River Wharfe as a fundraiser for Burley Trojans , the Trust and Guides (who also run Teas in the Park) Having raised funds from various sources we have managed to help several village organisations with their fundraising efforts. These include Burley Junior cricket and football clubs, Walkers are Welcome, Men's Shed, Burley Oaks and Burley Woodhead primary schools, the very succesful Arts Festival, the Wellbeing Hub, and an ongoing commitment to fund Outreach youth work in the village. In line with our ongoing responsibilities we have funded, supervised and undertaken the maintenance of the Pudding Tree and Jubilee gardens, Corn Mill Pond, Fountain of Life new Wellbeing Garden and provided hanging baskets and flower tubs in the centre of the village. The village website is also part of the Trust’s responsibilities and after a successful relaunch in 2023 as 'Discover Burley' it now provides very useful community information as well as the Village Diary of events. Watch out for more improvements to this facility during the next year We have helped with fundraising to provide better footpath access for wheelchair and pushchair users in the village and added more village information boards for residents and visitors We continue our partnership with the Walkers are Welcome group to improve footpaths, access, and provide benches in and around the village. The litter-picking initiative, started by trustee Loraine Hughes under the name of Wharfedale Wombles, has continued to go from strength to strength with regular volunteer litter-picks in the village on the first Sunday of the month, a self help litter station near the Red Lion, and several other litter picks more regularly undertaken by certain members in areas near to their homes. At the year-end total reserves stand at £281,411 of which £ 120,952 is for the General Purpose non-specific fund. Our future general funding commitments are £50,000 ( Pump Track pledge). Investment assets for BET total £228,702. ## **BURLEY IN WHARFEDALE COMMUNITY TRUST TRUSTEES’ REPORT YEAR ENDED 30th SEPTEMBER 2025** ## **FUTURE PLANS** The Trust’s future plans for promoting charitable activity for the benefit of the local residents include the following: - Distribute funds from the Educational Trust to benefit young people in the village through the primary schools and youth outreach work. - Continue to organise the Christmas Lights, Christmas Markets and the Duck Race. - Help maintain the playing field and pavilion at Scalebor and other village assets including the Corn Mill Pond, Fountain of Life, Pudding Tree and Jubilee gardens and the new Well-being Garden. - Build on the relationship with the Summer Festival within the Trust's overall responsibility. - Complete funding of the pump and balance bike tracks and ensure that the project is finished by June 2026, in conjunction with the Parish and District Councils. - Work with the main sports clubs in the village especially those involved with junior sport. - Continue working with the Parish Council, Bradford Council and other fundraisers and village organisations. - Continue to improve the new community website, 'Discover Burley' to help provide access for village events and facilities. - Continue to improve walking and access provision around the village for all abilities and ages. - Continue funding of youth provision in the village through the Outreach programme and other initiatives. - Continue and promote the Wharfedale Wombles litter picking initiative. - Support for the Well-being Hub , Men's Shed and other mental health and well-being initiatives. - Provide important local information through the village website, Facebook and our regular newsletter to members. - Assist other local village organisations with funding where necessary. - Review the status, constitution and policies of the Trust.. - Increase our focus on publicity and social media to boost our profile. ## **Signed on behalf of the Charity Trustees** BURLEYIN WHARFEDALE COMAIUNITY 7RUST (BWCTJ R¢g15tcr¢d Chanty No 1098871 Last year REC8PTS 11,156 4236 37.049 12,454 3, 171 DLrk irwNE. tKket6*6 etG 1,623 2,530 1,010 4130 15,451 3.363 1,321 I,7￿) 1.570 i.oio 15.457 18.079 from investn*nl6 rtated furtl.
