Its registered address is: 12 Old Mill Close, Burley in Wharfedale, Ilkley. Rachel Beverley-Stevenson, Sam Needham and Robin Dearing were confirmed as trustees (previously co-opted). Tom Sumner continues as advisor to the Trust on projects, events and activities. Its object is to promote any charitable purposes for the benefit of the inhabitants of Burley in Wharfedale, Burley Woodhead and Stead by any such means that are deemed to be exclusively charitable according to the laws of England and Wales **.** The charity is run by a committee of elected and co-opted trustees who have control of the association and its property and funds. There should be at least 3 and not more than 18 members of the Committee, all of whom must be members of the Trust. New trustees are recruited and co-opted onto the board by the existing trustees and elected at the AGM. All trustees give their time voluntarily. The Trust would like to thank all its trustees and volunteers for their considerable time and efforts towards the furtherance of its aims and objects. The Committee must hold at least 4 meetings a year. A quorum at a committee meeting is 5 members. The Trust has a number of powers set out in the constitution which may be exercised only in promoting its object. Membership of the Trust is open to any individual or organisation interested in promoting the charity. Membership is by annual or lifetime subscription. ## **ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE 2023/2024** The Trust has had another successful year with membership now at 879(2022/23 886). In December 2022 we finalised the amalgamation of the former Burley Educational Trust (BET) into the Community Trust by incorporating its assets and income into a designated fund within BWCT. This year we have continued to distribute some of the accumulated funds and income to the two primary schools in the village and for a youth worker to run an Outreach secular youth programme in the village. In 2023 BWCT took over the overall responsibility for the Burley Summer Festival to provide a legal entity for this important week long village event and the Moor Run. It also enables us to claim gift aid on public donations and to economise on our insurance costs for the two entities. The Festival is organised by a separate committee and continued its great success with a variety of events during August including the Car Show and Street Market, Dog Show,Opera, Big Play, Quizzes and Trails, and the ever popular Scarecrow Trail. In addition to subscriptions and donations from members and the income from the former BET investments we have received income from Burley Parish Council, Shipley Community Chest, Burley Trojans and Burley Cricket Club . We also claimed Gift Aid on membership and donations of £5654 in the year (£2,551 relating to the previous year's activity). ## **BURLEY IN WHARFEDALE COMMUNITY TRUST TRUSTEES’ REPORT** ## **YEAR ENDED 30th SEPTEMBER 2024** ## **ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE 2023/24 (continued)** Our major fundraising effort this year has been aimed at providing a Pump and Balance Bike Track in the recreation ground for youngsters of all ages. To date we have received funding and had pledges of over £190,000 towards the £220,000 we need with contributions from private donors, the Trust and Parish Council funding, local bike clubs and bike manufacturers, Ilkley Round Table, village events, and local donors. We aim to have funding in place to enable the work to start on this project in Spring 2025. We maintain the Scalebor pavilion and car park and contributed to the drainage maintenance of the Scalebor playing field during the year. We continued our involvement in organising and running the annual Christmas Lights display, lights switch on and markets (with help from volunteers and other village organisations) and we also run the Annual Duck Race and Teas in the Park (with the Guides) in June. We also have overall responsibilty for the Burley Summer Festival in August. This is mainly organised by a separate committee of volunteers with one of our trustees included in the group. Having raised funds from various sources we have managed to help several village organisations with their fundraising efforts. These include Burley Junior cricket and football clubs, Walkers are Welcome, Men's Shed, Burley Oaks and Burley Woodhead primary schools, the Wellbeing Hub, Bereavement Counselling and an ongoing commitment to fund Outreach youth work in the village. In line with our ongoing responsibilities we have funded, supervised and undertaken the maintenance of the Pudding Tree and Jubilee gardens, Corn Mill Pond, Fountain of Life and provided hanging baskets and flower tubs in the centre of the village. The village website is also part of the Trust’s responsibilities and after a successful relaunch in 2023 as 'Discover Burley' it now provides very useful community information as well as the Village Diary of events. We have helped with fundraising to provide better footpath access for wheelchair and pushchair users in the village and the village information boards for residents and visitors were installed in the summer in strategic locations. The allotment path was finally completed in 2024 and we continue our partnership with the Walkers are Welcome group to improve footpaths,access, and provide benches in the village. The litter-picking initiative, started by trustee Loraine Hughes under the name of Wharfedale Wombles, has continued to go from strength to strength with regular volunteer litter-picks in the village on the first Sunday of the month, a self help litter station near the Red Lion, and several others more regularly undertaken by certain members in areas near to their homes. At the year-end total reserves stand at £206,140 of which £ 80,940 is for the General Purpose non-specific fund. Our future funding commitments are£27,500 (Outreach funding and Pump Track pledge). As the charity trustees of the Trust, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”). I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act. I have completed my examination.
