Its registered address is: 12 Old Mill Close, Burley in Wharfedale, Ilkley. Its object is to promote any charitable purposes for the benefit of the inhabitants of Burley in Wharfedale, Burley Woodhead and Stead by any such means that are deemed to be exclusively charitable according to the laws of England and Wales **.** The charity is run by a committee of elected and co-opted trustees who have control of the association and its property and funds. There should be at least 3 and not more than 18 members of the Committee, all of whom must be members of the Trust. New trustees are recruited and co-opted onto the board by the existing trustees and elected at the AGM. All trustees give their time voluntarily. The Trust would like to thank all its trustees for their time and efforts towards the furtherance of its aims and objects. The Committee must hold at least 4 meetings a year. A quorum at a committee meeting is 5 members. The Trust has a number of powers set out in the constitution which may be exercised only in promoting its object. Membership of the Trust is open to any individual or organisation interested in promoting the charity. Membership is by annual or lifetime subscription. ## **ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE 2022** The Trust has had another successful year with membership at 902 (2020/21: 978). Last year we indicated that we were negotiating a merger with the Burley Educational Trust (BET) to take over their assets and objectives. The merger was finally agreed in December 2021 but the necessary administration took until June 2022. The income and assets are incorporated into these accounts. Income from this designated fund will be available to distribute for educational purposes. In addition to subscriptions and donations from members we have received income from Burley Parish Council, Burley Educational Trust, Shipley Community Chest, Greenbelt and the Coop community scheme. We also claimed Gift Aid on membership and donations of £4,436 in the year. Our management of the Scalebor Park grounds was terminated by the managing agents after 9 years. Although disappointing and resulting in a reduction in our future income base our main concerns are the maintenance of the playing field and pavilion for use by village sports clubs. We refurbished and repaired the pavilion and improved the electrical appliances and contributed to the drainage maintenance of the pitches during the year. ## **BURLEY IN WHARFEDALE COMMUNITY TRUST TRUSTEES’ REPORT** ## **YEAR ENDED 30th SEPTEMBER 2022** ## **ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE 2021/22 (continued)** Having raised funds from various sources we have managed to help several village organisations with their fundraising efforts. These include Burley Junior cricket and football clubs, Walkers are Welcome, Unique , Love Burley, Men's Sheds and the Wellbeing Hub. In line with our ongoing responsibilities we have funded, supervised and undertaken the maintenance of the Pudding Tree and Jubilee gardens, Corn Mill Pond, Fountain of Life and provided hanging baskets and flower tubs in the centre of the village. The village website is also part of the Trust’s responsibilities and has recently been upgraded and relaunched. It contains the very useful Village Diary of events. We have helped with fundraising to provide better footpath access for wheelchair and pushchair users and to provide village information boards for residents and visitors. The allotment path has been resurfaced partway and should be completed in the Spring. The litter-picking initiative, started by trustee Loraine Hughes under the name of Wharfedale Wombles, has continued to go from strength to strength with regular volunteer litter-picks in the village on the first Sunday of the month, a self help litter station near the Red Lion, and several others more regularly by certain members in areas near to their homes. At the year-end total reserves stand at £114,724 including £83,229 in a general purpose fund. Of the latter, the trustees have committed only c£6,000 against specific projects however we intend to pursue the activities list below under “Future Plans”. ## **FUTURE PLANS** The Trust’s future plans for promoting charitable activity for the benefit of the local residents include the following: - Distribute funds from the Educational Trust to young people in the village. - Continue the Christmas Lights, Christmas Markets and the Duck Race. - Help maintain the playing field and pavilion at Scalebor and other village assets including the Corn Mill Pond, Fountain of Life and some small gardens. - Install village information boards in two locations. - Explore the proposal to incorporate the Summer Festival and Moor Run within the Trust. - Encourage and assist with fundraising for the proposed pump and balance bike tracks. - Actively encourage and assist with fundraising for the new football pavilion. ## **BURLEY IN WHARFEDALE COMMUNITY TRUST TRUSTEES’ REPORT** ## **YEAR ENDED 30th SEPTEMBER 2022** ## **FUTURE PLANS (continued)** - Maintain and improve the website and diary to provide access for village organisations and businesses. - Continue to improve walking and access provision around the village for all abilities and ages. Bradford specifically intended the funds to be passed on to Love Burley and Burley Parish Centre (£2,500 each). 2. BWCT received funds from Greenbelt as part of an annual service agreement, to maintain the grounds and playing field at Scalebor which the Trust subcontracts to a local contractor. This arrangement came to an end in March 2022 when Greenbelt appointed an alternative contractor to oversee the work. 3. Following the absorption of the Burley Educational Trust ("BET") into the Community Trust the trustees have undertaken to, as far as is possible, set aside (or "designate") the associated funds to be used for similar purposes to those of BET.
