We pay hospital costs, and associated expenses such as blood testsand medicine. We also provide transport to bring children and parents who live far from the hospital. Many of the children live in di8tant rural villages. and the parents and children could not make the longioumeys without our help. We also provide aftercare. princspally to ensure that the operation is fully healed and there is no secondary infectM)n due to bad dental hygiene. We also provide dentistry when needed, as the cleft often disruptsthe proper development of the teeth. The commonest problems are TB and malnutrition. These can be controlled by mediCat￿n or dEet supplements. Our alm ts never to tum away any child who Can be made well enough to undergo surgery, and theyare placed on the waiting list for the following year. We work mostly with Harapan Jaya hospital and rehabilitation centre, and most of the surgery Is carried out by tearns of plastic surgeons from the Erasmus Teaching Hospital in Rotterdam as a charitable undert8king to help the children and give some training to local doctors. We alsowork with some local doctors and denlists. Section D Achievements and performance Summary of the main achievements of the charlty during the year Summary of main achtevements 2020 his year we have been unable to carry out cleft operations due o the pandemic but that has not stopped us doing what we can o help people. We have distributed a lot of food to families fferted by the pandemic. We have built 2 houses and bought and for 2 desperate families that lost everything due to the andemic We have a project running employing disabled tsilors o make masks. they are good quality reusable masks that have een distributed to school children and a lot of adults in villages urrounding the area where we are based. We have provided a ouple of women with weaving machines to make traditional hawls. We have provided a young disabled couple with a odified motorbike with sidecar so they can sell their shop upplies in surrounding villages. We have provided mobile hones to families so children can study online. We still have een running a few dental projects for children that have already ndergone cleft surgery. We have provRded football equipment to ocal clubs to help keep children motivated during the pandemic. e have helped a few people pay for medical treatment We are opeful we will soon be able to carry on with deft lip and palate eatrnent but the virus is affecting a lot of people as well as edical stsff in the hospitals where we work so we have decided o hold off on cleft surgery for now. 2OAR 2021
