2024 turned out to be no less busy than expected . Excellent support from our band of members enabled a huge amount of work to be carried out on the museum, notably on the vehicle collection.
The Chevrolet coach renovation is virtually complete, the Ford Capri ditto , the Trent SoS bus is nearly ready for a road test following more bodywork finishing including the route stencil storage box and the replacement engine for the Bristol RE is now expected to be fitted soon .
Building maintenance included a new stanction for the corner of the rear building and a repaint of the pillars of the Peart Pilkington section. New lower guttering was also replaced on part of the museum building too .
Members also helped with group visits , including several schools as well as events at the museum and of course the Lincoln Castle. We had several bus running days and the popular car running day in August , not forgetting the National Drive It Day .
The Clairvoyance evening encouraged some useful revenue too.
Some museum vehicles were also on exhibition at the Lincolnshire County Show in June to publicise the society's activities.
For several months the 1930 Lancashire United Leyland Lion was on exhibition at the Museum of Transport, Greater Manchester to celebrate 200years of bus services in the UK , which started in that city . Our Facebook lead Andy Fenton also illustrated a selection of museum buses over the year to show the development of the same via social media.
On the subject of administration and publicity Peter Langsdale has spent a lot of time on the aspect of Museum Accreditation detail, updating many of the policies the museum board have to adhere to and our Secretary Sue has continued with the busy task of day to day administration.

Paul and Joyce Jefford have regularly supplied detail of legal and museum matters , both national and local which could be of interest to the museum board.
The museum also was presented with a notice of all the categories of traffic using the Dunham Bridge toll over the River Trent from years ago . This is on a very heavy board and unfortunately it is a bit worse for wear but maybe it can be restored .
Going back to vehicles for a minute the prewar Austin 10 was taken to London for some film work by Colin Hodgin and the 1929 Bolton Leyland TD1, sympathetically disguised as a London Independent for Downton Abbey . This
went to London on a low loader . Both operations provided some good revenue for the society Im pleased to say .
Two of our former Lincolnshire Road Car buses , the Leyland Tiger and the Bristol L went on show at Market Rasen and Wragby respectively.
The board also gratefully accepted the generous offer of a soon ( ish ) to be completed I927 Leyland Lion PLSC single decker from Peter and Helen Berry . Besides being the oldest LRCC bus in existence it has an interesting history as it was rebodied after WW2 ( using some Leyland body parts ) by a Doncaster company and was also slightly lengthened for further use into the early 1950s.
And how and why did it turn up in Australia ?? Most strange.
Back to the museum I would say a big thank you to Stephen Dodsworth for the donation of his MG T F to help with the constant fund raising activity , and also to Morrison supermarket for food stuffs for the late bus running day.
The events at the museum help to create revenue of course. When we have costs re the servicing of the vehicle ramp and fire extinguishers totalling something near £1000 for example you maybe can see its a constant activity.
To this end I must thank Pam Francis and Mike Gallagher for the large amount of time spent on so many responsibilities here , particularly fund raising and showcasing the museum for visitors.
Also to Peter Bryden for his help with the GiftAid opportunities and Peter Cains for his great strides with publicity in various ways . Local village magazines are targeted in particular and benefit the numbers game in essence.
Stephen Dodsworth with Paul Bratley have worked hard to produce a regular magazine of high quality for members and
Liz has been a reliable museum attendant , particularly on Sunday s .
We also welcomed to the board Gary Nolan and Paul Baker . I have indicated to them that we will keep them busy !
No doubt I have forgotten something but I really want to say a big thank you to all those who have helped in very many ways .
Not least to David Howe whose expertise and of course time spent on the museum vehicle collection means it is one of the best in the country .
