## Objectives and activities

The objectives of TWFTW UK are to:

1. Raise awareness and support for the unfinished work of Bible translation (BT) by partnering with churches/individuals in the UK, attending or organising events/conferences and via social media.

2. Fund translation and literacy projects in Africa, Asia and Europe. We also provide critical Bible Translation capabilities to the wider organisation - specifically expertise in training translators (Dr Regine Koroma, VP Training) and oversight of the translation process (Dr Barry Funnel, VP Translation Consultant)

## Capability developments

Our CEO Steve Lancaster has continued to develop his role as CEO and we are seeing significant improvements in all areas of our ministry. His focus is to build partnerships with UK churches, organisations and key donors to both promote and raise support for the BT projects we are involved with.

The International organisation continues to develop its capabilities and capacity under the leadership of Kobus van Aswegen. Dr. Barry Funnell (VP Consulting), Dr Regine Koroma (VP

Training), and Julia Funnell (Training Dept) are based in the UK but work as part of the International team, providing capabilities critical to achieving the mission of the organisation.

The number of projects TWFTW supports has grown significantly this past year, and partnerships with key partner organisations have been deepened which is helping in the flow of financial and people resources to the frontline teams. A significant number of Bible Translation Consultants have been recruited and trained during the year, all based in their home countries (outside UK). This has been a critical enabler for the work to flourish as more translation teams can be supported.

## Building our support base

The income during the 2022/23 financial year increased from £79.4k to £132.5k, a significant increase on the previous year. Income has increased from all sources, but we have particularly benefited from match funding being provided by generous donors.

Steve Lancaster has continued speaking engagements at Churches, conference attendance and has grown our donor support base. In addition Steve has started to explore Trust Funds as a source of grant income, and applications this year raised £12.5k. We expect this to grow further during the coming year.

We participated in our first fundraising event organised by Illuminations Europe, which brought together a number of agencies involved in BT, and was held in Scotland. Around 200 people attended including a number of key TWFTW supporters and the event was successful in raising further funds and strengthening our partnerships with key donors. We are finalising plans for the second such event to be held in Windsor in May 2023.

We continue to improve communications to our donor base which includes a monthly newsletter highlighting specific projects, personal stories or bringing to life the steps involved in BT work. Our website has been updated and we now have a harmonised branding and design across all the support bases. Prayer Breakfasts continue to be held each month in two locations and we hope to further expand this as the donor base grows in new areas of the country.

## – Our impact BT projects, Literacy Support & Training

The number of translation projects underway continues to grow and is in excess of 200 (April 2023). We helped to support translation work in Europe and Africa primarily, aligning with the regional responsibilities of Barry Funnell, but also some projects in Asia where our donors have specific interests. Literacy training was also supported in some countries.

Besides salaries, our largest expenditure during the year was on Bible translation projects, and our intention is to increasingly deploy funds to specific projects and build a stronger connection between our donor base and BT teams on the ground. We have also prioritised training our growing team of Bible translators via a diploma programme which is developed, coordinated and run from the UK and Europe by Dr Koroma with members of the team travelling as needed to host countries. The number of qualified translators is increasing dramatically, which has a multiplier effect in terms of the number of BT projects that can be supported - and at much lower cost than for a foreign translator to move to the host country. Thirdly we invested in developing our growing number of national BT consultants; their role is to mentor and supervise multiple translator teams in a country/region and to sign off the BT projects as they progress through the various stages of translation. Again, this is a crucial capability which empowers local translators and enables the BT projects to progress faster and cheaper than deploying foreign workers to each project. Dr Barry Funnell leads this team of consultants.

## Public Benefit statement

1. We have promoted the need to complete the translation of the Bible into every language for the benefit of minority people groups.

2. We have provided critical capabilities and financed Bible translation in Asia, Africa and Europe.

3. We have supported literacy projects in Africa for the benefit of minority people groups.

These benefits are in line with our objectives as stated in our governance document.

The Trustees declare that they have approved the trustee’s report above.
