Objectives and 2020/21 activities
The objectives of TWFTW UK are to:
-
raise support for the unfinished work of Bible translation via social media, our website and visiting churches in the UK
-
using these funds to support translation and literacy projects in Africa, Asia and Europe
Consultancy
Dr Barry Funnell has been a translation consultant for many years and is also a member of the UK Board. He works in all the countries that we operate in. Based in the UK, Barry has conducted consultancy largely via Skype during the pandemic which has proved highly successful and cost-effective. A number of Bible Translation Consultants have been recruited and trained during the year, all based in their home countries (outside UK). This has enabled the work to flourish as more translation teams can be supported.
TWFTW Executive Management Team (EMT)
Daniel Davies has continued in his role as CEO dedicating around ~1day/week to the work. We are discussing potential ways forward to appointing a full time role if funding can be made available. Dr. Barry Funnell, Dr Regine Koroma and Daniel Davies play an important role in the international executive team (EMT) and were able to attend relevant sessions of the annual meeting, but remotely due to travel restrictions.

Funding in Bible Translation, Literacy Support & Training
We helped to support translation work in: Asia, Ethiopia, Slovakia, Tanzania and Zambia. Literacy was also supported in Malawi. As training is so important to translation especially in third world countries a significant proportion of our funds go to this activity, mainly through Dr Koroma, Director of Training of the International Board, also a UK resident.
The income during the 2020/21 financial year was £59.5k, a small increase on prior year. Around 40% of our funding is from DMG in Germany to support one of our Bible translation consultants (director of Training), and a further 40% is from individuals, remainder coming largely from churches. Our largest expenditure during the year (£28k) was on training our growing team of Bible translators. This has a multiplier effect in the field as more translators and leaders are trained, they are able to lead projects in their host country and at much lower cost than the equivalent UK based teams. Our second largest cost (~£10k) was in a similar vein of developing our growing number of national consultants and supporting them in their local Bible translation projects. We have also supported a number of specific Bible translation projects.
Fund Raising & Support Events
Our CEO Daniel Davis, with creative/artistic support from his wife Beth, created a fantastic new marketing campaign called ‘sponsor a verse’ leading up to Christmas. Donors are sent a piece of art with a scripture verse in a new language with the English translation below. https://www.sponsoraverse.org/ Early results are encouraging with a good number signing up and sending as Christmas gifts to family/friends. We hope to explore this further next year. Dr. Barry and Julia Funnell continue to speak at various churches in the UK to promote the vision of TWFTW and also to raise funds. Funding although still challenging is now producing more finance.
Prayer Breakfasts are held each month at the home of Barry and Julia Funnell. There are also regular prayer mornings held at the home of Dr Regine Koroma (IB Training Director), Watford.
We produce a twice-yearly newsletter, which is sent out via email and post to the UK and Europe. We have a very active web site which is well utilised especially by the training section of the international organisation. We also have an online giving facility.
Public Benefit statement
