**Welcome to Ab Phab Youth Clubs Trustees Annual Report 2021/22. This short report should be read alongside our Annual Accounts.**

## **Overview**

2022/23 was an exciting year for Ab Phab. We continued to see great attendance at our youth sessions and seen an expansion in the breadth of opportunities being offered to young people, particularly our delivery to our 18-25 age group where we delivered a full project focussed on developing soft skills and adapting to the ‘new normal’ following the pandemic.

At the beginning of the Financial Year, Enitan Watson sadly stood down as Chair of Ab Phab. However, she has remained as a valuable Trustee with Keith Smith kindly stepping into the role. We also welcomed a new Deputy Manager, Kelly Nicholls who has hit the ground running.

We thank our volunteers for the many hours they have given to Ab Phab this year – without their support we would be unable to deliver the volume of trips and sessions that we do!

This year we had lots of new experiences for young people to participate in including radio broadcasting workshops, exclusive hire of Better Extreme Trampoline Park and Barking and Dagenham Carnival project (in partnership with UKON Careers). This was all in addition to delivering our weekly projects for our 11-17 and 18-25 age groups.

We also returned to Stubbers for our first summer residential since the pandemic. 16 young people stayed away from home for the first time – we are so proud of them all!

We would also like to thank the families, friends and local community which have supported us at our fundraising events. The Summer Disco was great fund and we ended the year with the ever fabulous Christman Disco – great moves on the dance floor! Our Financial Year concluded with a fantastically fun and successful Quiz Night – we raised an incredible £11211.50!

## **Finances**

Louise has not stopped her incredible work to make sure we have sufficient funds to offer such a wide range of activities for our young people. She has chased down every opportunity and as a result we have a rich and varied programme. COVID has certainly reduced the funding opportunities, but despite that we have had many successes. We are waiting to hear whether we have been successful in raising significant funds for the 18-25 group to complement our Children In Need funding for the 11-18 group.

Each year the Trustees consider the level of risk for the organisation – 2022/23 was not as traumatic as the previous COVID years, but thankfully we have been able to deliver entirely in person and have increased the number of trips into the local community.

Our financial risk remains important for Trustees, but this year we are again able to confirm that, as our accounts show, we are a viable club for at least the next year, and beyond. For the financial year ending 31 March 2023: Our total income was: £100,755 Our total expenditure was: £93,888

Keith Smith Chair of Trustees

Helen Jenner Treasurer

Welcome to Ab Phab Youth Club’s annual activities report (Maqnager’s Report) 2022/2023

**Ab Phab’s Mission statement** : That all children in Barking and Dagenham and surrounding areas are able to express what they want and are offered opportunities to succeed, with a particular emphasis on providing accessible activities and support for disabled children and their families. These opportunities will be through inclusive youth club provision, trips and outings and supported access, including young people in decision making, resulting in their voices being listened to and acted on.

**Aim** : To provide a youth club, and associated activities for friends and families, that offer social, physical, educational and employment opportunities that meets the needs of disabled and non-disabled disadvantaged young people aged 11-18 and 19 – 25.

## **Sessions**

It has been great to deliver such a varied curriculum of sessions and events this year. Highlights include:

- Bungee run hire at The Vibe

- Radio broadcasting workshops

- Better Extreme trampoline park – exclusive hire

- Barking and Dagenham Carnival project (in partnership with UKON Careers)

- High Voltage Performing Arts workshop

- Neal’s Garden and Memorial Day on 12[th] September

- Trips including History Museum, Colchester Zoo, Transport Museum, Moby Golf

- Return of quiz night and fundraiser discos

- Return to full residential trip for Stubbers 2022

Our main

projects delivered in this year were:

- 18+ - National Lottery funded project focussed on adapting to the ‘new normal’ post pandemic restrictions and developing employment skills

## **Stubbers**

We had a successful return to a full-week residential at Stubbers. The young people participated in all of the activities and enjoyed practicing independent living skills throughout the week. We thank Stubbers Adventure Centre for their hospitality and Essex Youth Trust for funding a large part of this week.

**Neal Crowley**

**Memorial Garden**

Throughout the year, the young people have worked hard to expand Neal’s garden. Thank you to all of the dedication of young people, staff, trustees which have supported in helping to grow this garden. Thank you also to the friends of Neal who have volunteered their time to help out and the anonymous donors who have donated pots, flowers, trellises and foliage for the garden.

## **Funders**

We would like to thank all of our funders for supporting us over this year, including:

- BBC Children In Need – funding 11-18 project

- Essex Youth Trust – Funding the upcoming 2023 Stubbers residential

- Jack Petchy Foundation – Reignite fund for community trips and Achievement Awared Scheme

- True Colours Trust – Funding our Tuesday arts based sessions

## **Staff and Volunteers**

Lastly, I would like to personally thank all of the staff and volunteers for their dedication to supporting disabled young people to access new opportunities. Charities such as ours rely on the excellence of our staff and commitment of volunteers and we wouldn’t be able to deliver such amazing sessions without them all – THANK YOU!
