Summary of the main activities in relation to these objects

The Evangelical Brotherhood Church (EBC) ceased its day-to-day business operation by the end of 2016 with a view to selling its two buildings preferably to a charity with similar objectives.

In 2017, a contract was signed with St Crispin’s Church (registered charity no. 1171480) with an option to buy the freehold of both properties.

Trustees’ Report Evangelical Brotherhood Church

After St Crispin’s Church vacated the manse at 25 Calabria Road and confirmed they were not in a position to buy the property, the building was sold on 13/5/2022 with net sale proceeds of GBP 1.560.053,10.

The lease with St Crispin’s Church for the church building 16A Highbury Place is due to expire on 31/12/2024. As St Crispin’s Church is not able to buy the building, it is planned to put it up for sale on the open market. In order for the building not to stay unoccupied for a longer period of time and to allow a smooth transition for the St Crispin’s ministry to a new location, the current lease will be extended until 31/12/2025 with a mutual termination option with three months’ notice.

For the duration of the lease, the main activity of our charity consists in providing the church building for the ministry of St Crispin’s Church. The funds generated will be used for ministries within the worldwide GfC denomination, of which the Evangelical Brotherhood Church is an integral part.

The trustees aim to implement the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit, particularly the specific guidance on charities for the advancement of religion. To the best of their knowledge, St Crispin’s Church are operating under the rules and regulations as set out by the Charity Commission and in line with the main objects of our charity.

4. Achievements and performance

Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year

The main activity of our charity was to rent out our church building to St Crispin’s Church. As far as the trustees are aware, the conditions according to the lease were fully met and the rent was paid as agreed. St Crispin’s ministry continues in line with our own aims.

5. Financial review

The charity’s reserves are being kept at a reasonable level to provide for all expenses. We are very grateful for the ongoing commitment of the GfC-denomination to cover any possible deficit.
