OBJECTIVES AND ACTMTIES
The principal object of the Charity is lo elirrinate raaal dts¢riminati)n and to promote racial equality within
the Lon(hM Borough of Enffield {LBE), to FKomote equalty of cffj)portunity, and to encourage co-operation
among all people in the Borough without ￿gard to ra￿. colour. ethnic ongin or sex in a mulli-ra¢ial society.

ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE
The charity has made good progress despite eXtren￿ limited human and financial resources.
engaged with key stakeholderyts at Strateg￿ fora to ensure that needs and COn￿mS of Black and Minorty
Ethnic IBAME} communthes were induded in iheir F￿￿leS and services. We kept our membors and
ne￿orkS informed of our work and also Con￿Yed key messages from statutry and votuntsry tthies on
their services and policies.
We are proLKI to reFrfJrt that our Board ￿rnbers, Dungate tvice-chairl and Suhas Khale, received
Enfield's Lifetime Achievement Awards in March 2024, fdlowing norrinatK)n by EREC. Mr Khale has since
resigned from the Board for health reasons but we are delMJhted that he has accepted the role of EREC'S
V¢ce-Presiden( offered lo him due to his long4emi conrritn*n[ exper￿se and hard Y￿rk over many
years. Congratulations to them both.
On a sad note, we had to bid farewell to three of wr INKJ-Standing, dedicAted members and 8x-truslees.'
Leslie Dubow, Roger Hallam and Shirin Hdlam. Mr Dub(yw was one of the main founders of the
organisation in 1976 arKI later becan* VwPreSKJent He was instrumental in its govemance and
development in the earty yeats and in achieviTrJ initral funding from Enfiekj Council and the Commission for
Racial Equality for staff and projects. The Contribul)￿ ty them all to the charity. spanning nearty So years,
was greaty valued they will be deepty missed.

EREC'S contrxt with Enfield Counal has ntrw been exlended up to March 2￿6 with a view to extendlng
teyond that. The project provides equalities $UpF￿ on matters of race and ethnicity to ensure that Enfield
residents can access universally aVala￿e avbce and guidance as summari￿￿ beh)w.'
Knowledgeable support to Ihe Council and its parts)ers on a wide range of Fyolicy issues that are

Our Strategic Race and Equalities Forum {SREF} was ints1￿ fuThJed for develq)ment work by the Greater
London Authority (GLA}. The initialNe rec￿Ved tremendous SUPFQrt and a demand for seriou$ discussions
and collaborative w￿[ to mve race and equalities issues foThvard. EREC engaged with policy makers and
Servi￿ providers through regular participation in forums suth as the LBE Equalib'es 8oard, Integrated Care
Partnership Board and its suk¥roups but hopes to secure fvnding for the Race and Strategic Equalities
Forum to carry out this work con&stenty and on an On9￿ng basis.
'Unlted forall Seasons. Project
EREC received fvnding from the Nath)nal Lottery Communty Fund for a c￿e year communlty Gohesion
project which brought together participants from our dNerse Enfield communities to dtscuss the seasons
and meaning and importance of festivals and ￿ltural events. 'Unlted for all Soa8ons' was launched at
the AGM 2024 and kncked off the summer Celebrations. Three sucLessful events have been held so far
with excellent parbapatron and very positbve feedback. AJI events provKled inforrnation and 8wareness
raising on important topical isSL￿, such as the cost-of4Mng crisis. fcoj povety, cli* change and
equalities, plus on&tO-one drop4ns for aJvi¢e and s￿nP￿ting. Paiticipants joined in by sharing their
stories, memories and poems and teaming up for trNkq quizzes. The final 'Spnng' event to be held in April
2025 will conGludo th8 project Through ￿lebratIT￿j commonalities as well as d5fferences, the project aimed
to help unite our communf(ies and strengthen ￿lat￿nShipS. This has been particularty important in term5 of
the increase in povety and dewvation due to Covid. the o)st-of-INing crisis and devastating global confiiGt,
with rising incidents of anti-semitism and IsLqrTh¥thotAa because rt t*OUght people together and helped them
to connect Feedback so far has revealed 100% enioyTYtnt of the prwe¢t adivities, particularly:
the presentations on climate change, physical aThJ mental weRteiThJ, winter warmth, weffare support
and debt advice.,

MEMBERSHIP OF EREC
Mernb8rship is free and open to indNiduals who live ￿ work in Enf￿ld and to organisalTrons operating in
Enfield. who are committed in fvrthering the work of the REC. Twstees are recruited from the EREC
membership by dection at the Annual General Meetsng. Any Vaca￿85 which remain are filled through co-
opt'on by the Board.
The Board COns￿ts of not rr￿re than 18 membeTr: 4 h(x￿rary offic&rs,' 10 trustees,. 2 local authority
representstives.. 2 co-opted members. Elections for trustee vxancie5 take place annualty at the Annual
General Meeting by thirds and el*d trustees each serve for a three-year period. Honorary officers are
also elected al each AGM by means of a ballol aThJ hobj ofte for a tenn of one year.
l elected members should serve for their specified term, subie¢t to their annual renevral of rrembership.

INDUCTION AND TRAINING OF TRUSTEES
All individua15 accepting r￿MinationS for election are asw to sign a DecLgratTron of Acceptance which
spells out the dui'es of trustees. Upon their apFrf￿ntmert trustees are gNen an Induction Pack providing
information about Enr￿d Racial Equalty Couwl, its and pro¢edures. New trustees also receNe
training, along with their colleagues and tske part in strategic reviews and planning days. They are also
invited to events held by EREC, some of wh￿h provide infomiatKJn and raise awareness on lat8St issues
oncerning r￿e and equalities. Opporiunities to attend courses, such as those provided by Enfield
Voluntary Action are offered throughout the year, with topics including Govemance other issues
Con￿mIng voluntary sector managernenc leadership. in￿enCing poiiw mak•5, Oto
PLANS FOR THE FUTURE
The need for ra￿ equality work is growng (ywirvJ to the political and sockil environment, such as risir¥J
right-wng activity and last summerfs riots, but EREC is facing extrerre financial challenggs threatening our
ability to Continue to provKle services. However, wll be undertaking a review of our financial resources
to ensure sustsinability for EREC and will conts'nue to seek frjnding from suitable sources lo meet our aims
and obJ"e¢ts'ves and develop projects wh￿b ￿￿t community needs. 8ither indNidually or in partnership. In
particular, we hope to obtain fijrther funding to buikl upon our preV￿￿S Herrtage and Seasons, Projects.
Next year, 2026, EREC ￿athes its Soth annNersary and is plannir¥J ￿lebratIonS and actwities to mat* this
important milestone.
GOVERNANCE AND INTERNAL CONTROL
The trustees have conducted a review of the major risks to which the charrty is exposed and systems have
been established to mikn.gate those risks. The Irustees reguL8rty revEw their internal Control systems to
ensure that all intemal risk5 are minimised arKI ensur• the consi$lent qualty of dglivw of all operational
aspects of the charitabk company.
RESERVES POLICY
The trustees of the charity have established a policy whereby the unrestrthd funds held by the charity
shoukl be between 3 and 6 months of the c#)st of charrtable actNit*s. At this level. the trustees feel that
they would be able to continue the current activrties of th8 charity in the event of a signifsGant drop in
funding.
FINANCIAL REVIEW
During the year under revw. the Chanty getwated totsl revenues of £45.980 (2024: £33.550). The
accounts ShC￿ a net deficit for the year of £7,42812024. £18,056 deficit) and dosing reserves of £19,923
{2024= £27,351).
