Structure, Governance and Management The company is governed by an elected Management Board who are play professionals, representatives of member organisalions and managers of related seNices, or volunteers with relevant skills and experien￿, elected by members at the Annual General Meeting. The Management Board may at any time appoint any members of the charitable company as a member of the Management Board either to fill a vacancy or by way of addition to the Management Board. Potenlial new Management Board members are only appointed after satisfactory completion of a DBS check, Iwo references, and a statement of eligibility and observation of Management Board meetings. On appointment, they are expected to sign a Code of Conduct and complete an induction. All Management Board members are expected lo attend an annual development day which also considers any other committee training and development needs. The staff are managed by the Director, who is appointed and accountable to the Management Board. The Board makes final decisions of the mission, values and strategic direction of the organisation,. the organisational structure, personnel appointments and salaries,. policies and procedures and internal controls,. ensuring the organisation is financially viable. has sufficiènt resources, and is operating within appropriate and effective financial and resource management controls, and monitoring of organisational perfomance. All members ofthe Management Board are members of the company and guarantee to contribute to the assets oflhe company in the event of it being wound up such amounts as may be required not exceeding £1. Organisation and objectives Haringey Play Association supports children & young people's right lo play through building the capacity of Haringey's community at grass roots and local governmental level to provide high quality play services. HarPA will do this by.. 1. Developing and supporting a diverse range of children & young people's play provision committed to improving the quality of play experience in Haringey 2. Supporting play providers through representing their interests, providing advi￿, information, training and promoting inter-agency communication and Cooperation 3. Giving a powerful voice to children's play, raising awareness and understanding of the fundamental importance of play in a child & young person's life Statement of Purpose Haringey Play Association wants every child & young person to have high quality, cost effective and accessible play opportunities and care services which are monitored and evaluated. HarPA recognises that play is an essential part of the education, development and welfare of children. It is committed to improving the quality of the play experience wherever it occurs.. on the streets, in play-schemes, play cenlres, after school ¢lubs, parks, housing estates, in leisure facilities, on residential holidays and camping trips, in schools and hospitals. HARINGEY PLAY ASSOCIATION HarPA will work to create and support play opportunities that are stimulating and challenging. HarPA is committed to playing its full part in protecting chitdren & young people from injury, bullying and abuse. HarPA will work towards ensuring equality of access to play so that no child is denied play opportunities because of inability to pay fees, failure to include children & young people with disabilities, children & young people with heaith problems, or children & young people from new communities. HarPA will work to support positive transitions at every stage of children & young people's development to help enhance their life chancès. To achieve these aims, HarPA will explore new ways of worf(ing in partnership with play service providers, including Haringey Council, other statutory agencies and community, voluntary organisations and private sector. HarPA will attempt to link up with a wide range of existing networks to improve infomiation sharing, coordination of services and to maximise the impact of available skills and expertise. How HarPA's work benefits th8 public in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2008. The work is of direct benefit to people in need due to a number of factors including.. finanGial hardship and disability. We work predominantly with young people in an area of financial hardship with a strong emphasis on inclusion. It also enables the advancement of citizenship and community development through working to promote participation and to empower people to influence and develop their own services. Our open-access, free-of-charge play sessions are open to young people aged 5yrs-15yrs- activities include free play, swings, slide, running, hiding, arts & crafts, soft archery, dodgeball, group games, table football, cooking, climbing, jumping-off platforms, campfire & outdoor cooking, nature play & forest schools activities, sand-pit, water-play, den-building, bike rides, wood-crafi, play structure building, trips, circus show delivered by The Flying Seagulls and seasonal events. Funded by Children in Need Main Grant. The SisterHood project is a weekly, open access, innovative, girts-only project based at Somerford Grove Adventure Playground. SisterHood aims to engage 'hard-to-reach' girls, aged from 5-16 years, with a combination of play and youth work approaches to create a safe, challenging, co-operative Spa￿ in which the girls can experien themselves free from the pressures of 'being female,. Play activities Gan engage the individual in being who they want to be, without judgement or the need to justify. Our staff support the child's own autonomy and encourage them to expand their interests. We provide a free-of-charge, safe space to socialise, have fun and participate in age- appropriate creative projects. Girls improve their skills-range, improve their confidence and resilience, and increase their access to physical activity. We offer the girls the space to take part in woikshops and discussions on a range oftopics. We also offer 'Big Sista, roles to girls aged 16yrs+ where girls volunteer, support younger girls and support, plan, evaluate and deliver sessions with staff. The girls went on a variety of trips, including Christmas pantomime, Homerton Grove Adventure Playground, Circus, trampolining, and Seaside trip. Gol London funding provided a professional Aerial Acrobat and Callisthenics Trainer to deliver weekly sessions at the girls group alongside our play sessions. The project was named Flippin Fun and trained a& experienced Acrobat Alice Watson who facilitated the sessions which include acrobatics, gymnastics and callisthenics. We have pur¢hased outdoor Aerial equipment (hoops and ropes). We took the girls to a circus show to watch acrobats in action, in May 2024. Youth project- on Wednesdays we have sessions for children aged 8yrs+ These sessions include indoor and outdoor activities, as well as trips to bowling, restaurants, and trampolining. Children & young people also take part in chopping wood and making campfires, cooking, crafts, woodwork and team games like Dodgeball. They also have the choice lo take part in cooking, crafts, and multimedia projects. The young people coproduce the youth prograrnme and we facilitate their ideas & choices. Young people will be introduced to the Jack Petchey Award scheme in 2025, where three young HARINGEY PLAY ASSOCIATION people each year re￿1ve awards of £300 towards trips and activities of their choice for the youth group. Family Play Sessions- funded by Gol London and Awards for All. We open for families and children of all ages every Saturday alongside Food bank in the hall for families to access while their children are playing. These sessions pemiit parenvcarers to attend with their children. Playworkers speak lo parenucarers about the Importan￿ of play, adult intervention, and how children become more confident and resilient when having the opportunity to take risks while playing. Parentlcarers have the chance lo familiaris8 themselves with the staff and space, they get to play with their children in an outdoor, free-of-charge, stimulating and exciting space. Families also get to meet other local families HAF- Holiday Activity & Food programme- Harlngey Council & Dept of Education- HarPA was funded to provide Free School Meals for children and young people aged 5yrs- 15yrs during Easter, Summer and Christmas Holidays al Somerford Grove Adventure Playground. The play sessions offered 6hrs of outdoor play, which included water fights and forest schools, activities. We also received funding for two estate play projects, Sandbunker play project and Suffolk Road estale for Easter and Summer holidays. Make-Do play delivered the play unstruclured, child-led, play sessions, rooted in the Playwork Principles. The sessions were outdoors with Loose Parts, messy play, crafts & woodwork. Children had the opportunity lo use hand tools, wood and nails. Volunteers.. HarPA worked with x9 regular volunleers who supported us Food bank for families, srte & building maintenance,. working with young people. In 2023-24. HarPA also worked with a total of x75 volunteers with a variety of skills & experience who took part in 'Volunteer Days, this includes corporate volunteering days, local residents and parenlslcares. Parenucarer volunteers also help during the play sessions. Somerford Grove Adventure Playground refurbishment: The students from Haringey Learning Partnership Pupil Referral Unil worked with HarPA staff to renovate and built new play structures and container for a new indoor space on the adventure playground. A new lango swing was built by Jake Hally-milne and Tam Carrigan. Lords Foundation funded £5k for this build. The staff from Lords Builders Merchants (Edmonton) volunteered to help paint the Tango swing they funded. New plarforms and drop slide were completed by HarPA team and Build up. Volunteers helped with prepping and painting the new struclures. Young people are involved with the design of all the new play structures. Parents. local residents and corporate volunteers, have supported in painting, gardening, clearing fire pil and sand pil, building new garden planters for growing fruit and veg. Our playground refurbishment is on-going. Vlolence Reduction Unit {London Mayors Office) and Haringey Loarning Partnership.. HarPA worked with Haringey Council Early Help and Culture Commissioning Unit and in partnership with Haringey Leaming Partnership (Pupil Referral Unit). HLP students came to Somerford Grove Adventure Playground to help rebuild the playground every Friday. Young people aged 13yrs-16yrs were taught woodwork and construction skills by HarPA staff and how to use hand tools and power tools. The students also get lo spend time playing on the playground, chopping wood, building camp fires and taking part in Foresl Schools activities. Tottenham Grammar School Foundation- we have been funded annually over the years. TGSF have funded materials {wood, tools and fixtures) for children and young people to build with and Forest schools, resOur￿s. This year they funded resources including wood, fixtures, fittings and tools lo support the delivery of our build projects with students from Haringey Learning Partnership and children from Somerford Grove Adventure Playground. Build up- In February 2024, during half term holidays,- Build up funded and worked with group of young people to build our second treehouse as designed by our children and young people aged 9yrs-13yrs. Build up worked with children and young people to design and build the new drop slide with young people aged 9yrs+ Children and young people have gained new skills and ownership of their play space by designing and building play structures they have suggèsted HARINGEY PLAY ASSOCIATION Trlps: We took children to the Christmas Pantomime al Millfield Theatre {funded by Fidelity International} and a meal for the youth group at all-you-can-eat restaurant. We went kayaking, trips lo River Lea County Park in Cheshunt, an overnight residential on a Canal boat {Angel Community Canal boat}, Scouts park for archery, Trampolining, Bowling, Restaurant, Southend seaside trip and Adventure Island, Circus, and visits to Fidelity International office, medialfilm studio, along with a meal for the SisterHood girls at their restaurant. Mulberry Primary School - Every Wednesday for 2.5hrs each week {Reception class) since October 2023 and two Tuesdays per month IYr1) from March 2024. Classes have been attended Somerford Grove Adventure Playground for 2hrs extra play per week. Mulberry school has increased play-time by 2hrs per week for their Re￿ptIOn and Yr1 class by bringing them lo Somerford Grove Adventure Playground. Forest Schools Fridays in partnership with Wild About Our Woods-wild About Our Woods (WAOW) and Haringey Play Association (HARPA) secured funding from Haringey Council to deliver Forest School sessions at Somerford Grove Adventure Playground. The sessions include woodcraft, nature crafi, building campfires, cooking on an open fire, learning about nature through play. Including building & cooking on campfires, nettle crisps, nature crafts. wood whittling and much more. Harin Pla Association HarPA's role Continues as a support organisation and provide lead for children and young people's Play services across the borough,. providing Playworkers and play guidance and support, advice and infomation on all aspects of Play & Playwork to groups and individuals who request it. In addition, we have also provided youth & community provisions. Haringoy Play Association- social media: HarPA updates the website regularly www harin Lik as well as regularly updating our Twitter feed and Instagram. Follow us on Twitter.. @HarPAofficial (1.8k followers). We have two Inslagram accounts @sisterhoodJirlsJroject and @somerford adventure. We also have a YouTube channel - Haringey Play Association - featuring short films and montage edits featured on our channel. BL Heritage Fund: Play Memories film- Children and young people working with professional filmmakerleditorlproducer (who currently works for Netflix - and has worked for BBC, ITV and Channel 41 Sarah Kerley-Burton. Over 8 months we delivered (x6) workshops for young people on how to make a short film, Directing, camera work, and interviewing skills. We also worked with Socal pensioners aged 70yrs-95yrs who were filmed and interviewed by our young people about their play memories {inlernational origins) This film will be used as a marketing tool for HarPA and will celebrate the importance of play. Premier screening will be at SGAP on Saturday 23rd March 2024 We formally launched the Play Memories film on International Play Day {11th July) on ￿ltter and linked. On ￿ltter our tweet had 2.5k views. The film is now on HarPA's YouTube channel. North London Scouts District- HarPA leases the building from the scouts. We work in close partnership sharing the building with the Scouts on Thursday evenings where they also have aC￿$S to the Adventure Playground. The Scouts have an office and storage space. They share the building, and we offer the Adventure Playground and campfire for the scouts group lo use each week. The Scouts group is for ages 14yrs+ The Felix Project & Fo¢)d bank- Thursday and Saturday HarPA staff and volunteers set up tables lo offer food, fruit, vegetables, bread, pastries 2nd pasta, tins, rice elc. Felix Project collects surplus food and food that will no longer be shelved due to packaging or change of stock, from food suppliers and supermarkets. HarPA staff distnbuted the food and items to local community, x108 local families regularly collect food from us overthe year. Estate play sessions . Sandbunker Play projoct and Suffolk Road estate - Funded by HAF. based on the Sandlings Estate in Noel Park, Wood Green. And Suffolk Road estate in Seven Sisters. HarPA provided play sessions for 3 days a week (Tuesdays. HARINGEY PLA Y ASSOCIATION Wednesdays and Thursdays) 12'.30pm-4pm for Easter and Summer holidays. The play sessions included outdoor play with loose parts, crafts, slime making, skipping, den building, soft archery and we also had a¢￿sS to the Sandbunker Community Project. Park play sessions: Richard Hope playground and Love Lane playground- commissioned by Haringey Council. Playworkers delivered play sessions in Finsbury Park's new play area lo help activate the space. The play sessions included loose parts. Games, soft archery, outdoor play equipment. We were commissioned lo start delivering play sessions al Love Lane playground near White Hart Lane. High Road West Regeneration team funded HarPA Playworkers to help activate the new play space. Corporate partner Fidelity International- HarPA was selected as Fl's designated charity from January 2023-December 202513yrs programme} Fidelity has funded play sessions, trips, buildinglconstruction resources, raffle prizes, volunteering trips to Fidelity International office next to St Paul's Cathedral. Regular Volunteer days take place on Thursdays at Somerford Grove Adventure Playground Fidelity teams support us with gardening, site maintenance, clearing up, painting, and Food bank sessions. Fidelity staff have purchased personalised Christmas gifts (gifts chosen & requested by children) and handed them out during our AGM Christmas events. Fidelity have funded HarPA just over £28k of unrestricted income this year. Venue hire, parties and events- HarPA staff have been commissioned to work at events as Playworkers across Haringey. We have also generated income through party packages and venue hire at Somerford Grove Adventure Playground. The children and young people helped organise two fundraising events where they raised £389 towards trips through selling food and snacks, craft stalls and raffles. The trustees have identified the major financial risks laced by the charity. Trustees have taken legal advi￿ and have a strategy in place lo address those risks relating to the end of our current lease. They have also examined olher operational and business risks faced and systems have been established to mitigate the significant risks. RESERVES POLICY In accordance with the SORP 2019, rese￿eS are'resources the charity has or can make available to spend, for any or all the charity's purposes, once il has met its Gornmitments and covered its other planned expenditure HARINGEY PLAY ASSOCIATION HarPA will endeavour to maintain sufficient reserves to allow it lo cover known liabilities and contingencies, absorb setbacks and take advantage of change and opportunrty. HarPA's reseNes levels are agreed and annually reviewed by HarPA's Management Board. To set reserves levels, the Management Board uses a risk identification approach and considers the following.. Forecasts of income and expenditure in future years Assessment of risks and liabilities, the likelihood of risks occurring, the impact these would have, and the potential ability of the organvzalion to manage these HarPA's funds are made up of the following.. Restricted funds.. These are not considered as part of HarPA's reserves, and have no cash value in managing risks, liabilities and contingencies. They consisl of= Income specifically restricted by donor{sl Tangible fixed assets fund.. this represents the net book value of the building, and the net book value of office and other equipment for which we previously received capital funding and depreciates annually. Deslgnated funds: HarPA Management Board have set up properly designated funds for defined purposes. considering particular risks to which the organisation is exposed, and our stralegic plans for meeting our charitable objectives. These funds are not considered as part of HarPA's reserves. The Management Board can use its discretion lo apply these funds for another purpose if required. Due to the current financial situation, this fund has been undesignated in this yearfs accounts. Designated funds should, as soon as possible be set aside as follows.. Maternity and Sick Leave Liabilities, Redundancy liabilities.. £11,700 £5,000 to cover potential maternity leave for one member of staff, and £3,400 to cover potential sick leave al one average worker cost x 6 weeks. An Insurance Contingency fund will be kept to coverloss of essential assets and equipment which can't be claimed against contents insurance due to £500 excess. given the high number of break ins that result in low level loss. General funds: These make up HarPA's free reserves. HarPA will aim towards holding sufficient free reserves to meet at least 3 months running costs, to enable HarPA lo providè reliable services over the long term, and to provide a basic safety net against dramatic long-term swings in income or costs, and sufficient time to replace lost major sources of income through fundraising.
