Govornlng Docum•nt
The organisalion is a ¢harrtable company limrted by guarantee. incorporated on 3 July 2002 and
registered as a ¢harty on 27 May 2003. The company was established under a Memorandum of
Association which established the objects and powers ol the charitable company and is governed
under its Articles of Association. In the event of the company being S%￿und up members are required to
contribute an amount not exceeding £10.
Ro¢ruitsnont and appointrM•nt of directors and Trustees
The dire¢lors of the company are also ¢harty trustees for the purpose of ¢harty law and under the
Companys Artides of Associ*'on are knovm as Trustees. Under the requirements of the
Memorandum of Association one third of the trustees are required to retire at each annual general
meeting by rolalion. They may ￿ r￿ected ty the remaining trustees.
The Iruslees may appoint a person who is wlling lo be a trustee %thether to fill a vacancy or as an
additional Iruslee.

Dr Marj'orie Zrff MBE passed away in April 2023. The Friends of Roundhay Park give thanks for Dr
Ziff s support of our charitable endeavours and extend our ¢ondolen¢es lo her family.

The Company has set main objeth'ves for the charty, these are'.-
111 To promote the preserwatson, reslor81ion. maintenance and improvement of Roundhay Park Leeds
for the benefit of the public.
121 To promote the benefit of Leeds and the surrounding areas by a$socBb'ng the local authorities and
inhabitants in a common effort to provide facilities in the interest of social welfare for recreation and
leisure lime occupatson with the objects of improving the conditions of life for the inhabitants.
Strat8glc rnport
The lolk)wng sections for achievements and perlomiance and financial rewew fomi the strategic
report of the charity.
A¢hl•vem•nts and perfomiance
The biggest achievement last year was the 151Xh celebration. FORP hosted a range of activities
including walks. talks and a vthole day of live music and entertainment for the local Community. The
charity installed h¥0 new tree sculptures and infomiation board in Canal Gardens, replacing FORP'S
Mary's Tree which had to be felled in Ihe previous year. Foresl Schools ran throughout the summer
months Iterrn timel and the charity also continued ils litter picking and general maintenance work in the
park. The charty achieved 'Local Favourrte. in the Fields in Trust UK'5 Favourile Park compelib.on and
were recognised by Inner North Leeds Committee as 'Local Heroes,.

## **Financial review** 

During the year the charity has made (deficit)/surplus on its general activities of (£5,790) (2022: £5,880) and a surplus/(deficit) on its restricted fund of £nil (2022: £nil). The unrestricted and restricted funds now stand at £25,478 and £nil respectively (2022: £31,268 and £nil). 

## **Reserves Policy** 

The trustees have examined the charity's requirements for reserves in light of the main risks of the organisation. It has established a policy whereby the unrestricted funds of the charity should be a minimum of 6 months based on the budgeted expenditure for the following year. 

## **Investment Powers And Restrictions** 

The directors/trustees are only permitted to use the charity's assets solely towards the promotion of the objectives of the charity. 

## **Plans for future periods** 

Avian Flu curtailed the sale of duck food throughout the previous year but has now been re-started, with permission of Leeds Parks, providing a good income and a better environment for users of Waterloo Lake. The charity is working with Leeds 2023 Year of Culture to host two events in the park, which will increase the profile of FoRP. The ground around the new tree sculptures will be landscaped providing a pathway to allow the public to view the sculptures easily. Forest Schools (during summer term time), litter picking and garden maintenance will continue.

## **Year ended 31 March 2023** 

I report to the trustees on my examination of the financial statements of Friends of Roundhay Park ('the charity') for the year ended 31 March 2023. 

## **Responsibilities and basis of report** 

The trustees are also the directors of the company for the purposes of company law are responsible for the preparation of the financial statements. The trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed. 

## **Independent examiner's statement** 

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:(1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements: 

to keep accounting records in accordance with section 386 of the Companies Act 2006, and 

to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records, comply with the accounting requirements of section 396 of the Companies Act 2006 and with the methods and principles of the Statement of Recommended Practice: Accounting and Reporting by Charities have not been met, or 

(2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

During the years 2020 and 2021 work on refvrbishing the playground at the upper park
commenced and was materially finished in the spring of 2021. Thi5 project was completed wthin
budget which re5ulled in the balance of the playground designated fund being transferred back to
