## **Report by the Chair of Trustees 20.21**

The 12 months from September 2020 to August 2021 have seen us live through 2 national lockdowns, ongoing local lockdowns and disruption to school life for most of the year.

We started the year appointing Sophie Tinker as a new schools worker to support mentoring in Brighouse in light of an increased need for pastoral support following the first lockdown.

My thanks go to our amazing school workers, Chris, Sarah, Nancy and Sophie , who have stepped up in so many creative and inspiring ways to offer support and help in the schools we serve in very challenging situations.

Alongside the chaos of school life within form bubbles and social distancing, the team at a school in Brighouse were able to support both staff and students following the tragic death of a pupil. The young man was a Christian and this gave opportunity, both in school and at his funeral, to stand alongside others and share the hope and love of Jesus with them.

Our workers on the ground in the schools have helped guide the charity through this last year and the trustees are grateful to them for this. This ensures the investment made by our supporters towards the work of CICS has continued to be invested into schools work and young people across the Borough.

We managed to support the local church to distribute It's Your Move books to those young people as part of the Transition year. Many of our supporters came out of local/partial lockdown to deliver to schools even if they were unable to run an assembly event. The trustees express their thanks to all those who attend the Elim car park distribution / collection event on 30th April.

My thanks to those who serve CICS as trustees. Meetings have continued on Zoom and occasionally in person but we have had a commitment to grow and develop the charity and its work through this time. As we went into the third lockdown in early 2021 we took the opportunity to review and update all of our policies which are essential to the good governance and running of any charity.

Looking at the accounts, thanks to a generous legacy from a lady who supported and stood with CICS since its beginning, we finished the year in a very healthy financial situation. Thanks to all our supporters - individuals, church communities and the Government furlough scheme.

Do pray for schools and the work they do. Pray for our school workers as they continue to share through action, words and presence the love, hope and peace of Jesus.

Paul Blakey MBE

## Basis of Independent Examiner’s Statement

My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commission.

An examination includes a revue of the accounting records kept by the Charity and a comparison of the Accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the Accounts, and seeking explanations from the Trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in a full audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the Accounts.

## Independent Examiner’s Statement

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:

1. which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements

   - to keep accounting records in accordance with Section 130 of the 2011 Act; or

   - to prepare Accounts which accord with these accounting records have not been met; or

2. to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the Accounts to be reached.
