## **FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 MARCH 2024** 

## **Objects of the charity** 

The charity, which is a church, is governed by a trust deed and is constituted as a trust. The purpose of Heathfield Church is the advancement of the Christian Faith, the advancement of education, the relief of poverty, sickness, or hardship and other charitable purposes for the benefit of the community in the United Kingdom, and elsewhere throughout the world. 

## **Review of the charity's main activities and achievements** 

To further the above objects, the charity's main activities and achievements were as follows: Weekly: - 

- Sunday Fellowship; 

- Sunday Prayer Meeting; 

- Performing Arts. 

Fortnightly: - 

- Monthly: - - Messy Church; 

- Games Club; 

- Soup and Sandwich. 

- Yearly: - - Experiencing Easter 

- Experiencing Christmas 

- Light Party 

- Fun Day 

We partner with the Charity LSET (Living Stones Educational Trust) providing accommodation, gifting all facilities, and some volunteers for their weekly Homework Club. 

We also supported the Leprosy Mission by giving gifts. 

The Church Fellowship has grown in number and diversity over the recent months. Some new families have joined us and had additions to our membership. We are supporting several individuals from countries with totally different cultures, helping them to develop English language skills; which is helping them to settle in a new environment. 

We continue to reach out into the local community, offering support, activities, refreshment and fellowship. recently done a leaflet drop on a new housing estate, inviting the residents to get to know the church; providing information on all the activities and support we offer. 

Messy Church gives young children the opportunity to learn new art and craft skills. It develops an ethos of team work with the games that are played. They receive a Christian message and are provided with lunch. Their parents are encouraged to stay which gives us the opportunity to share love with them.

Soup and Sandwich was introduced to reach out to the community, providing a warm place, food and fellowship. During lunch, individuals are given an option to watch a film with a Christian theme. Games Club is an all-age activity. People from the community join with us to play board games, dominoes, cards games, building Lego, colouring pictures and snooker. During the morning light breakfasts are served. 

Rooted which is for young people has really grown. Once a fortnight they come straight from school/college. Many of our youth have brought friends who are new to a church environment. increased the facilities available to them; table tennis, table football, table hockey and pool. We have a small classroom which is a great resource. This has board games and other facilities for those who enjoy the more boisterous games. We provide them with a hot meal during the evening. 

Performing Arts gives people the opportunity to learn new skills with hand puppets, singing and increases confidence to perform in front of crowds. The group have participated in Sunday Services including Harvest, the Carol Service, Prize Giving and Café Church. They perform songs, poems, sketches and hand puppet theatre. 

The Light Party which is open to the community, is our alternative to Halloween. our time to celebrate Jesus Light of the The children dress in bright colours and super hero costumes. They play 

We invite two of the local schools to Experiencing Easter and Experiencing Christmas. Although this year only one was able to participate. We have around 30 children at each session, accompanied by the teachers. This is a chance for the children to hear the stories about Christmas and Easter. They are able to ask questions and fully participate. They take away mementos and treats. The feedback from the school is always very positive and the children really enjoy it. 

In partnership with LSET we have reached children and parents in the community with Homework Club. Proving accommodation and facilities at no cost to them. We granted £1,000 to LSET to enable them to go into a local school and coach young children. 

We have given financial support to the Leprosy Mission and families who have struggled financially. We given food to food banks. 

We have regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit. All the Trustees have been advised to re-read them to further embed them. 

## **Financial review** 

During the year income increased by £104,900, to £129,600 mostly due to a legacy of nearly £90,000. Expenditure increased by £6,800, to £44,700. As a result the cash held by the charity increased by £84,900, to £101,300, of which all is unrestricted and can be used for any charitable purpose. 

The principal source of funds is from cash/cheque offerings on a Sunday, monthly offerings through the bank and sundry gifts given through members of the Church. We received a gift from the Charity LSET for use of the Church building. We do not undertake any fundraising activities. 

## **Reserves policy** 

The trustees have determined that the charity should aim to hold unrestricted cash of no less than £13,000 (which equates to about unrestricted running costs including utility, insurance and ancillary bills) so that the charity could continue to operate should income and / or expenditure vary adversely. At the year end, the charity held unrestricted cash of £101,300 and the charity is holding excess funds because of the legacy received during the year. 

## **Governance** 

Responsibility for setting policy and for making operating decisions rest with the trustees who meet regularly to monitor the activities of the charity. We have not appointed any new trustees for over 10 years, however if we need to appoint any new ones we would follow the Trust Deed, Paragraph D -

## **Responsibilities of trustees** 

Charity law requires us as Trustees to prepare financial statements for each accounting year which record the receipts and payments of the charity for the year. 

We are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and enable us to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011. 

We also have a responsibility to safeguard the assets of the charity and to take reasonable steps to prevent fraud or any other irregularities.

To further the above objects, the charity's main activities and achievements were as follows: Weekly: -

- Performing Arts.

We also supported LSET’s Bible Holiday Club in the summer by proving accommodation and volunteers. We also supported the Leprosy Mission by giving gifts.

## **Responsibilities and basis of report** 

As the trustees of the charity you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the 2011 Act’). 

I report in respect of my examination of the charity’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act. 

## **Independent examiner’s statement** 

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect: 

1. accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the 2011 Act; or 

2. the accounts do not accord with the accounting records. 

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

## **1 Accounting policies** 

The accounts have been prepared on a receipts and payments basis and comprise a statement that shows the charity's receipts and payments, a statement that summarises the charity's assets and liabilities and related notes. The accountancy profession have determined that only accounts prepared in accordance with applicable accounting standards present a 'true and fair' view and, as these receipts and payments accounts have not (and cannot) be prepared in accordance with accounting standards, these accounts do not present (and are not intended to present) a 'true and fair' view of the charity's financial activities and state of affairs. 

General funds are unrestricted funds which are available for use at the discretion of the trustees in furtherance of the general objectives of the charity. Designated funds comprise unrestricted funds that have been set aside by the trustees for particular purposes. Restricted funds are donations which are to be used in accordance with specific restrictions imposed by donors; they include donations received from appeals for specific activities or projects.
