1) President’s Address:

I would like to welcome you all to our 2024 AGM and to say thank you for the care and support you have given both to me and Susan in what has been a very difficult year for us. My thanks to all members of the retiring committee for their hard work throughout the last year. My thanks also to all the members who have supported both the club officers in their endeavours and all of the events and tournaments we have hosted during the last year.I am willing to stand for re-election if required.

3) Acceptance of the minutes of last AGM held on Sunday 20th March 2022:

These were accepted as a true record of the last AGM by all present having been proposed by Susan Stankovic and seconded by Martyn Smith

The queries raised over the accounts were discussed and investigated in the months following the last AGM and found to be the result of cheques being mistakenly double accounted - once on presentation at the end of the year and again the following year when they had cleared the bank. A corrected balance of year figures was presented and filed with the annual reports for 2023 with the Charities Commission.

Officers Reports:

4) Chairman:

Firstly, can I welcome you to this, the 2024 annual general meeting of the club; particularly those newer members who may not have attended before. I would sincerely like to thank the officers and committee members who have served over the last 12 months for their hard work and support. I feel as if the last year has been the first that didn’t feel as if it were part of the Covid era, whilst acknowledging the fact that there are those who are still succumbing to it. The outdoor season culminated in a very successful and enjoyable ’Pie and Bean’ shoot. As we continue to shoot indoors (and out) our thoughts are already on the programme for the year ahead.

It is pleasing to see how many members joined us following last year’s beginners courses, and I would also like to acknowledge and thank those who gave up their time to help support those courses through the year. A lot of work was done to clear sections of the field in order to establish the range as it now stands and I hope, with the continued support of members, we can continue to keep it under control. We have just completed hosting the third indoor competition of the indoor season (this one on behalf of the Nottinghamshire Archery Society) having previously hosted the EMAS and our own Open Portsmouth, all of which were well attended. In what seems to have been a busy few weeks, a number of members enjoyed the first social evening of the year last weekend and we look forward to many more in the future. I feel it is essential to reiterate the fact that we are a club run by volunteers and as such rely on the goodwill of those who give up their time. I must take this opportunity to remind all members that the facilities we enjoy and the opportunities presented to both compete and shoot socially at the field do not come without the need for members to get involved and play an active part. I recognise that not everybody can contribute the same amount of time and effort but if each member played their part to the best of their ability it would help distribute the load.

I’ve enjoyed my year as Chair and as part of the coaching team, I would be happy to stand again if re-elected.

6) Secretary:

As always, we have been busy as a Club during the past year and I would like to thank all those members who have helped out with the various ‘work party’ events and joined in with the social events too. This year we cleared the safety zones on the field and re-marked the range, created a coaching range and social space in the Clubhouse, continued the monthly fun nights at the Friday Club sessions and enjoyed a DIY BBQ afterwards.

The second annual Start Archery Weekend had a good turnout from visitors considering it coincided with the King's Coronation Weekend and the weather wasn’t the best. It was great to see plenty of members getting involved and helping out too and hopefully, enjoying themselves at the same time.

It has been good to see some members taking on new roles this year, with four of them taking on the mantle of Tournament Organiser and making the role look effortless with very successful, fully subscribed shoots followed by plenty of praise from participating archers and judges for a job well done.

The Club kit and various logo’d items are proving popular with a dedicated online shop for the clothing range also being set-up by our supplier to enable members to purchase items at their leisure instead of waiting for me to place a bulk order!

It is the Committee’s role to try to run the Club that you want, that said they need your input and help to achieve that. They are always open to ideas and comments from members to improve our Club but ultimately without your support and assistance, they are limited to what they can achieve.

7) Treasurer:

Before I start, I would like to give thanks to the many members who have given freely of their time to contribute to what has proven to be a successful year for Sherwood Archers. None of the following would have been possible without their help.

In order to keep things as clear and brief as possible I have attempted to separate the accounts into headings covering the main Income and Expenditure streams. This is admittedly a little “broad brush” but does I believe give a feel for where our main income and expenditure comes from.

INCOME:

MEMBERSHIP FEES

IN SUMMARY

As of 31/12/2022 we had a combined balance of .. £32,172.14 Net Income for 2023 amounted to .. £14,675.72 Resulting, as of 31/12/2023 in a combined balance of .. £46,847.86 We have commitments for the upkeep of the club through 2024 of .. £13,773.73 (Overheads and the replacement of consumables, ie bosses, faces etc) This leaves a surplus available for the securement of the clubs long term future of .. £33,074.13

Thanks to Mark Burton for his work collating figures for future commitments. This concludes my report apart from declaring that I will not be standing for re-election in 2024.

8) Membership Secretary:

This year has seen mixed fortunes regarding membership, we did well in gaining new members from some of our beginners courses and less so from others. Our numbers of members renewing this year is slightly down with our current memberships standing at a total of 108. The breakdown of this is Honorary Members 4, Juniors 17, 18/25 year olds 6, Seniors 80 and 1 Associate. If your personal circumstances change please remember to either change these on your personal Sport80 account and let me know so that I can update the club record. I am willing to stand for re-election if required.

9) Records Officer:

After an unusual start to the 2023 outdoor season on the 1st of January which saw everyone below Master Bowman lose their handicap and classification. Most of us quickly bounced back and found our former levels, some even improved.

Other changes to the system saw the new age categories like the 50+ which some of us are still reluctant to venture into. That being said, some did and are quickly filling up the records tables with their efforts.

Over the 2023 outdoor season I have recorded an amazing 437 scores plus 33 clout scores. A total of 133 outdoor club records were either set or broken, consisting of 86 senior, 31 of which were in the new 50+ class and 47 junior records which is probably a record in itself. Also, to date this indoor season I have recorded 86 indoor scores of which 21 are club records across all age ranges.

Finally just to add I am happy to carry on in the role as records officer for the coming season

Now onto the awards

I am happy to confirm all the handicap medals can be awarded this year and are as follows As the handicaps were wiped for everyone, I have kept the best first handicaps to the new members or anyone who hasn’t had a handicap before.

The most improved this year was open to everyone as soon as you got your first handicap

10) Tournament Officer:

This last year has again a bit of a mixed fortunes for the tournaments the club hosted, some were well supported and others had to be cancelled due to lack of support. All of those that went ahead did bring an income to the club, again some more than others. We reviewed the tournament list at a committee meeting and decided to go ahead with the following shoots for 2024:

23[ rd ] June – WA 70/50m with H2H

4[ th ] August – 1,2 & 3 Shoot 29[ th ] September – WA70.50m with H2H

20[ th ] October – Pie & Beans

17[ th ] November – EMAS Indoor Championships.

Over this last year we have seen a number of changes in who has taken on the role of tournament organiser with the death of George and Linda stepping back. My thanks to Leigh, Steve, Paul and Kevin for agreeing to take the lead on some of our tournaments. I would also like to thank all the members who supported us as tournament organisers as work party as without your help the tournaments cannot go ahead. The H2H tournaments are a new venture for us as a club and will hopefully with your support be successful. I appreciate that it is a full calendar of events particularly when you add in the beginners courses, taster sessions etc. but all of these events generate income over and above our membership fees which gives us the opportunity to improve our facilities for the membership to use.

I am willing to stand for re-election if required.

11) Junior Representatives:

The Club’s under 18 contingent, has seen an increase in members throughout the year with new faces joining after each beginners course, resulting in a current total of 15. All have been steadily improving throughout the year with the majority regularly attending the Saturday morning Club sessions at the field where they benefit from the coaches input and their own hard work. 8 of those 15 are also attending the Notts junior winter training programme, which requires monthly attendance and a more structured programme of training and coaching to help improve their skills and encourage them to shoot at competitions. Two of our junior members, Zavier and Xander, have also been representing Notts.County having been called up following their success at the various selection shoots. At the Sydney Bond Trophy tournament, an annual shoot at which teams from all the counties across the East Midlands compete, Zavier won the barebow team trophy and the recurve team came second with both our archers achieving a Rose award at the event too - Congratulations to you both on your successful County shooting.

12) Coaching Co-ordinator:

It has been another busy year for the Sherwood Archers Coaches working hard at Club sessions, Beginners Courses and Have-a-Go’s etc.. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those coaches and helpers involved in all of these activities which are a big drain on everyone's time and are essential for the future of the club. Your support is much appreciated.

Some Sherwood Archers Coaches have also been busy away from the club, forming part of the coaching teams for the Notts Senior and Junior Winter Indoor training. These sessions provide vital development opportunities for those coaches and archers that attend. Sherwood Archers has a long established tradition of having an input into the running of the County Archery Society. Carrying on this tradition one of our coaches has now taken on the position of County Coaching coordinator and has been busy organising this year’s coaching conference in March. I wish her well and urge all of our coaches to attend.

In the summer we were successful in obtaining a £500 grant from Magic Little Grants, this, along with the extreme generosity of a club member, has enabled us to add to our stocks of loan equipment for use by Club members.

The club is always looking for members to join the coaching team. If you are interested in starting your coaching journey please do not hesitate to contact me and I will be happy to discuss this with you.

As usual I would like to end this report with the reminder that if you feel you need a little help, please do not hesitate to contact myself or one of the coaching team, anything from a one off

piece of advice to a full coaching programme, we are here to help.

I am willing to carry out this role for another year, however if any of our other coaches would

like to take this on I am happy to pass on this role.

13) Safeguarding Officers’:

Safeguarding continues to be one of the primary focuses of AGB and we have remained compliant with their requests for all members who are directly involved with aiding anyone on the shooting line to have a relevant safeguarding certificate. Please remember that safeguarding applies to everyone so please make our Club officers aware of any concerns you have at any time so they can act in accordance with our current policies.
