The Philippines continued to experlence significant challenges durlng 2021-2022 due to continual lockdowns and rising food prices. Wage-earners continued to struggle to find work. The vaccine rollout was initiallv slow due to a shortage of vaccine stocks but then ramped up significantly as the year progressed. Fortunately, desplte hea rainfall, there were no serlous typhoons affectin8 the squatter communities. Hands of Merry focused charity funds on provldlng famllies and children wlth food support, mediclne and emergency as51stance wlth bills. Consequently, of the seven compassion pro8rammes, the followln8 ones were prioritised durin8 the year: Chlld Sponsorship Programme- over 100 Chlldren continued to be sponsored for their education and health needs. Children attended school online throughout the year due to the lockdowns and the sponsorship provided support to the child/children wherever thls was needed the m05t le.g. food for them and thelr famllies. help wlth WI-FI to access online education andlor support with their health needs). Family Support Programme- around 50 of the poorest famllles recelved supplementary food every month through the Famlly Support Pro8ramme. Supplementary Feedln8 Pro8ramme- thls contlnued to serve meals to underwel8ht and malnourished children and Hands of Mercy contlnued to flnd ways to distribute food durlng the lockdowns. Prescrlptlon Medlcine Programme- thls was a lifellne to many wlth over 250 people receivlng help with laboratory tests andlor medlcation. Icthus IHands of Merrfs Ilvellhood pro8rammel continued to sell flltered water to buslnesses and Individuals. It is in its seventh year of operation IhavSng started in 20151 and provldes a way for the Filipino community to become more self-reliant. During the financlal year, it remained In operatlon but the buslness environment was more challenglng due to the contlnued lockdowns and increased competition from new water fllterlng organisations. Icthus continued to provide a higher quality level of water though. During the year, many churches and indlvlduals In the United Kingdom kept supporting the compassion work through prayer, child and family sponsorship and donations. We are greatly indebted to all the supporters of Hands of Mercy. There were also some significant trustee changes during the year. Robert and Frances Gunn, the two longest-serving trustees, both officially retired in May 2022. Their role in Hands of Mercy has been monumental sinte its inception and they leave a lastlng legacy of falthful service and steadfast prayer. A new trustee, Michael Dodds. was appointed in December 2021, followin8 a recruitment process. Page2of3
