faulities. Th&se thsroès are reviewed by the Trustees from Ilme to time and appropriete adjustrnents are m￿e based upon both
professional 8dvicp and consideraton of any recent changes in th6 provision of serwces.
The Chaw benefrts directly frorn the profits made by th￿ subsidrary whilst taking r8spon81bility for the rates, 5eNice charges,

The WimbledotTr Society Is 8 S8parale Chanty thal maintains a Local History Museum Iwimbledon Museuml in 2 roDms ofthg building.
This reflects an hi5tOriC association between the Iwo organisab'ons originating in 1916. The Society leslablished in 19031 becan
involved N 1916 at th8 request of the Vill8ge Club and Lecture Hall, which, as one of its main aims, had wished to establish 8 local
history museum since its foundation in 1858. Thp Mu5eurn occupies the space rent free for the purpose of running the museum ¢n
behawof the Village Hall Twst and community bul pays a small 8nnu81 amount for the Use of the same TOOMS foi It5 own meebngs.
The WimbWon Society is one of those bodies nominated in the scheme to provide Trustees and ￿ represented on the Gouncil of
Manaoemgnt.

The buil(th'ng compkx, owned by the Trust, fom)s a group of tsGilili&s on which the present Charity is based and wa8 eslabli8hed in
1858. These facililes are used lo provide leisure 8ctivilies for the 50¢81 communily on a d8ily basis, whilst providing an incwe to the
Charity, wh￿1 faulitates the maint&n8nce snd improvement ￿the building. The Village H211 and meeh.ng rooms ar& bookéd for general
education wrpgses, lectures. meetings and drama. Piovision is rnadfy within the facilities for the Museum of Wirnll6don, now named

The Museum is run entirÈty by volunteers and 1$ usually open lo IhE public on Fridtys. Saturdays and Sund8y$ and for school groups

A listed buildin9 application was submitted in Noveryber 2020 for 8 disabled tollel on the ground floor. The original design of the
building. gnd the facl tliat il is GTrtle11 listed, means that any Internal SilU¢￿ra1 alterations or changes lo the character of Ihe builthng
require Listed Building Consent, and l am pleased io athise IhalPlaming Listed Buildiiig Consent was received Inearly 2029 However
due lo the refurbishment prtsjecl of the Museum an(J the iniplicalions ¢1 Iliat lor the operalion of the buikliftg. Cc¥nmenCe￿enl of Ihe

Over th& 1881 yÈar, we have reviewed the original plan5 and discussed son)e improvements to the original d88vJn. Thi8 pro¢$s$ 15

A rEW art Gallery w8s created wlhin tre I￿lIdEn0 complex in 2012. Thi% was called, atthe ts"me, the Village Hdl Gallery and has proved
to be a very successful project and 8n ￿pOrtant addition to the f8ulities provided by thÉ Twst10 the lo¢d community.
The wrpose ofthe Gallery is to wcouragÉ individual art151s, art groups and s¢hools t¢ makeuse of the Galleryfor exhibitlons ai nominal
cost.
11 ￿ impoytant lo record Ih8t Ihe Idea ofthe Gallery, in space it ¢iccupie5, was conceived by Norman PL8stow, our past Chairman, a
number of years ago. Due ID his wson and petsuasive lobbying of fellow Truste6S, th8 G8llery ?v8ntually came into being. Nonran
resigrled from the Chairmanship of the Trust In November 2013. At that point the Trustees decided to pay tribute to his indefatigable
SUPPOrt of the Trust over many y&ars of valued Chaimanship by renaming the Gallery a5 the Noiman Plastow Gallery. 85 a fiiting
tribute.
Since tha start of th8 Museum rÈlurbishment prDject, much of tre ¢Dntent5 of the Mu5eurn were stored in the Gallery n order to leave
a clear working space in th8 Museum for the refurtsishment works. The contents have only Ecently been repatriated to the Museum tri
allow the Gallery to resume operation. Charges for renting the Gallery are nominal 8ncl il is Nn by the Trust as a Non-profit acts"vily.

This has allowed the Museum to displ&y, for the first time, some of its extensive archive ma18ri81 such as watercolours, prints and
dravrings and to pul themed exhibilicns, which relate to the hi8tory of the Wirnbledon area.
Young Wlmbledon Artists IYYIAI
In lin? wth the Trustrs aim to encoufage1oc815th0015 and colleges to use thÈ Gallefy, an Important new iniliatrve was launched in the
Gallery ih 2015 c8lled the Young wim1￿edon ArtISts IYWAI. This iniliabve was in thè form of fjn £ward scheme and sought lo provide
students from lo(21 schoo15, tollelle5 and ac8demies in Merton. ond individual yourng artists or groups of young artists who live in the
borough, 8n opportLsnity to exhibitth*i original art￿tiC works. Th8Sè Works ?re curated into exhibitsons puton by th6 Gallery and Trust
Since 2015 a number of winter and summer exhibMions have been held, which have bEen great succes$es. PNzes. which are in the
fom of vou¢hers for art malerk818, are sp￿80red by the Trust and eth&r generous individuals who are keen to 5UPPOrt the initiatiV8.
This &wgrd $cheme w8S the idea of Mike Robbins, a py8t Trustee. We are extremely grnteful for his 511PPOrt and the huge amount of
time he hès S￿￿tt9 make these exhibitions 8 success. We Flso should ment￿n the great $upport provided to Mike Robbins by Graham
Martin, our Manager, who has taken 8 gr&at inter88t in the proje¢t.
