TRUSTEES' REPORT (CONTINUED) FOR THE YEAR ENDED 5 APRIL 2021
Achievements and performance
The objectives of the Trust have been to help seekers as well as followers attain peace and happiness through live spiritual discourses and regular satsang events.
This year has, however, been completely different to any other year due to the Covid -19 pandemic. As a result, the UK tour of Pujyashree Deepakbhai which was scheduled from 1 st April to 21 st April had to be cancelled. All live events and all in-person activities at various centres were also cancelled until further notice, in line with Government guidelines.
However, the pandemic opened up the possibility of a new arrangement for UK-wide events, using online technology like Microsoft Teams, Zoom, You Tube. All local centres worked together as one team to create online events and daily activities on a national basis. This has helped the nationwide coordination team to grow, bond and develop.
This report showcases some of the main activities through the year for adults as well as children.
Many followers also wished to make contributions to the Covid – 19 relief effort either through charitable activities or donations, especially to help those affected in India during the peak infection period.
A number of followers and their families were affected by the pandemic and a few also succumbed to the worst effects of the Covid – 19 Corona virus. The UK team was constantly on hand to help them physically, providing emotional support as well as making connections with Pujyashree Deepakbhai for vidhis (special prayers) for them.
We pray for the recovery of those affected and for the onward spiritual progress of those who succumbed.

Special Online Sessions with Pujyashree Deepakbhai

Followers were able to ask questions to help their progress, share experiences, especially in relation to the pandemic, obtain blessings and share informal time with Pujyashree on a one-to-one basis.
Online UK Shibir was held over the Easter weekend, 2 nd April to 5 th April, 2021 keeping with the tradition of past UK Shibirs.
Virtual UK Production – ‘See you soon – The Akram Show’
The UK kids GNC team along with adults’ Cultural team joined forces to create a grand virtual show for the first time ever. It comprised of a British style welcome by the youths with different British landmarks, a title song video ‘See you soon’ with visuals from past Shibirs with Pujyashree, followed by a kids drama ‘Hope is immortal’ based on Easter story of crucifixion to resurrection incorporated with the hope of Pujyashree’s arrival in the UK. The adults’ drama ‘Jo Baka Dada ni dava to levi j padshe’ was a comedy based on Dada’s spiritual keys represented as medicines. The production was brought to a close with a mega-mosaic which had the representation of mahatmas from all UK Centres. The making of the Production brought a lot of joy and togetherness virtually with powerful experiences of the application of this wonderful Science for the participants and sevarthis.

YMHT+ - this group have daily sessions for vidhis and introspections for their group, in addition to weekly selected satsangs. The satsangs are specially selected for content relating to the age group. Akram Diwali Cook-off – around 10 young adults and future master chefs went head to head in an impressive cook-off on November 7 th as part of Diwali celebration, with the winners getting a hand painted aprons.
GNC - the virtual sessions for all ages were started in May 2020, to ensure that the kids still have a connection to Dada’s Science.
GNC online - for children aged 5-7 years. They meet every other week, with 15 children meeting on average. The sessions have covered the topics around how to be happy in the present and celebrated the key events. The children participated in a virtual cultural programme for Diwali 2020 and had a wonderful virtual Christmas celebration.
Book Club - for children aged 8-14 years. They meet every other week. They have covered the topics of Nav Kalam, compassion, peer pressure, laziness, Simandhar Swami, Fault is of the Sufferer, and also Dada Bhagwan Comics parts 1 & 2. The latter was in preparation for the JJ Quiz.
Y-boys - aged 15-21 years. They have been meeting sporadically over the period. They have covered Nav Kalam, Karma, and intro sessions on Dada and Pujyashree. The group has been innovative, using the virtual environment to create crosswords and quizzes to show their understanding of the Science. Some of these boys have also taken on seva for Book Club’s special events.
Y-girls - aged 13 – 15. They have been meeting every week since the sessions were started. They have covered a range of different topics, including memory, mobile addiction, the series of Ramayan and reading the Akram Youth magazine together as well. A number of the girls have been giving seva with the GNC online – setting up the powerpoint slides and creating the games.
Bookmarked - girls aged 16+. They have been meeting on a weekly basis to read through Ahinsa and Tari Peda No Hun Anubhavi, the latest Youth Novel.
The Y-girls and Bookmarked do a combined session once a month. They have recently started the Tirthankar Bhagwan series, and in the past have covered topics like Manobal, insecurities and special sessions on the Gnani.
January 2021 saw the launch of the Akram Cooking Club – a session every 2-3 months where the girls get a cooking lesson, increasing in difficulty of technique and also preparation of ingredients. So far, the girls have made delicious pancakes and chocolate coins, Thai Mango Curry and Cauliflower chaat. This has also been a way of ensuring the youth-girls are interacting with their mums as well.
Gujarati Lessons
All the spiritual material of Dada Bhagwan was originally in Gujarati. Reading the material in the original language provides a clearer understanding than translations, so many followers wish to learn Gujarati. The pandemic lockdown unlocked an opportunity to provide virtual lessons for those wishing to learn Gujarati but were not able to do so in the past. Followers also volunteered to be mentors to students, to help guide their progress in reading and writing. Over the course of 6 months, quite a large number of UK mahatmas, young and old benefitted from this online learning of the language with Dada’s knowledge.

Leicester Centre
The new Leicester Centre, Dada Darshan Leicester was acquired in October 2020 from the Royce Institute. A virtual opening ceremony by Pujyashree Deepakbhai was held on 25 th October 2020. After many years of looking for a suitable property, we are very pleased to have found this former church for our activities, ideally located in central Leicester, with good transport links. The fact that it was a place of worship previously, made the building even more significant for its continued use as a spiritual centre. The property requires some modernisation and maintenance but is otherwise a good size and perfectly located for Midlands based followers.
We hope to see it grow the activities of the Trust in the Midlands region.
Workshops
Workshop activity did not take place over the year as these are generally directed at new seekers. However, Agna in Practice Webinar was conducted on 5 th December for those who took Gnan Online.
Festival Celebrations
All festivals were conducted virtually during the year, with online activities and performances. Navratri was celebrated with national Garba seeing virtual participation from all Centres of UK. Similarly, Diwali was celebrated with a virtual Chopda Pujan and mini Annkuts/food displays at homes of mahatmas all over UK. The Hindu New Year morning prayers also saw a virtual participation in large number. Niruma’s birthday celebrations on 2 nd Dec 2020 were truly heart-warming for all the followers participating from their own homes, making Khichi and singing songs written by Niruma. Christmas festivities were equally enjoyed online with tree decorations, Kids Christmas party, choir singing, satsang understanding the true meaning of Christmas ending with a Candle lit prayer service.
Covid 19
The Trust and followers have supported the response to this pandemic in numerous formal and informal ways. Followers were offered advice and support on an informal basis by “Doctor” followers.
The YMHT+ (younger adults) group identified a need to provide essential items and toys for women and children at refuge centres in the London region, which they arranged through their group.

We have audited the financial statements of Atma Vignani Dada Bhagwan Foundation ('the charity') for the year ended 5 April 2021 which comprises the statement of financial activties, the balance sheet, the statement of cash flows and the notes to the financial statements, including significant accounting policies. The financial reporting framework that has been applied in their preparation is applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards, including FRS 102 'The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland' (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice).
In our opinion, the financial statements:
- give a true and fair view of the state of the charity’s affairs as at 5 April 2021 and of its incoming resources and application of resources, for the year then ended;
-have been properly prepared in accordance with United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice; and
-have been prepared in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011.
Basis for opinion
We conducted our audit in accordance with International Standards on Auditing (UK) (ISAs (UK)) and applicable law. Our responsibilities under those standards are further described in the Auditor's responsibilities for the audit of the financial statements section of our report. We are independent of the charity in accordance with the ethical requirements that are relevant to our audit of the financial statements in the UK, including the FRC’s Ethical Standard, and we have fulfilled our other ethical responsibilities in accordance with these requirements. We believe that the audit evidence we have obtained is sufficient and appropriate to provide a basis for our opinion.
Conclusions relating to going concern
In auditing the financial statements, we have concluded that the Trustees use of the going concern basis of accounting in the preparation of the financial statements is appropriate.
Based on the work we have performed, we have not identified any material uncertainties relating to events or conditions that, individually or collectively, may cast significant doubt on the charity’s ability to continue as a going concern for a period of at least twelve months from when the financial statements are authorised for issue.
Our responsibilities and the responsibilities of the Trustees with respect to going concern are described in the relevant sections of this report.
Other information
The Trustees are responsible for the other information. The other information comprises the information included in the annual report, other than the financial statements and our auditor’s report thereon. Our opinion on the financial statements does not cover the other information and we do not express any form of assurance conclusion thereon.
In connection with our audit of the financial statements, our responsibility is to read the other information and, in doing so, consider whether the other information is materially inconsistent with the financial statements or our knowledge obtained in the audit or otherwise appears to be materially misstated. If we identify such material inconsistencies or apparent material misstatements, we are required to determine whether there is a material misstatement in the financial statements or a material misstatement of the other information. If, based on the work we have performed, we conclude that there is a material misstatement of this other information, we are required to report that fact.
We have nothing to report in this regard.
Matters on which we are required to report by exception
We have nothing to report in respect of the following matters where the Charities Act 2011 requires us to report to you if, in our opinion:
- 14 -

INDEPENDENT AUDITORS' REPORT (CONTINUED) TO THE TRUSTEES OF ATMA VIGNANI DADA BHAGWAN FOUNDATION
-
the information given in the Trustees' Report is inconsistent in any material respect with the accounts; or
-

-

Responsibilities of Trustees
As explained more fully in the statement of Trustees responsibilities, the Trustees are responsible for the preparation of the financial statements and for being satisfied that they give a true and fair view, and for such internal control as the Trustees determine is necessary to enable the preparation of financial statements that are free from material misstatement, whether due to fraud or error.
In preparing the financial statements, the Trustees are responsible for assessing the charity’s ability to continue as a going concern, disclosing, as applicable, matters related to going concern and using the going concern basis of accounting unless the Trustees either intend to cease operations, or have no realistic alternative but to do so.
Auditor's responsibilities for the audit of the financial statements
We have been appointed as auditor under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 and report in accordance with the Act and relevant regulations made or having effect thereunder.
Our objectives are to obtain reasonable assurance about whether the financial statements as a whole are free from material misstatement, whether due to fraud or error, and to issue an auditor's report that includes our opinion. Reasonable assurance is a high level of assurance but is not a guarantee that an audit conducted in accordance with ISAs (UK) will always detect a material misstatement when it exists. Misstatements can arise from fraud or error and are considered material if, individually or in the aggregate, they could reasonably be expected to influence the economic decisions of users taken on the basis of these financial statements.
Irregularities, including fraud, are instances of non-compliance with laws and regulations. We design procedures in line with our responsibilities, outlines above, to detect material misstatements in respect of irregularities, including fraud. The extent to which our procedures are capable of detecting irregularities, including fraud, is detailed below.
A further description of our responsibilities is available on the Financial Reporting Council’s website at: https://www.frc.org.uk/auditorsresponsibilities. This description forms part of our auditor's report.
Other matters
Your attention is drawn to the fact that the charity has prepared the financial statements in accordance with 'Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102)' in preference to the Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice issued on 1 April 2005 which is referred to in the extant regulations but has now been withdrawn.
This has been done in order for the financial statements to provide a true and fair view in accordance with current Generally Accepted Accounting Practice.
This report is made solely to the charity's trustees, as a body, in accordance with part 4 of the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008. Our audit work has been undertaken so that we might state to the charity's trustees those matters we are required to state to them in an auditors' report and for no other purposes. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we do not accept or assume responsibility to anyone other than the charity and the charity's trustees as a body, for our audit work, for this report, or for the opinions we have formed.

1.1 Basis of preparation
The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the charity's governing document, the Charities Act 2011 and “Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102)” (as amended for accounting periods commencing from 1 January 2019). The charity is a Public Benefit Entity as defined by FRS 102.
The financial statements have departed from the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 only to the extent required to provide a true and fair view. This departure has involved following the Statement of Recommended Practice for charities applying FRS 102 rather than the version of the Statement of Recommended Practice which is referred to in the Regulations but which has since been withdrawn.
The financial statements are prepared in sterling , which is the functional currency of the charity . Monetary a mounts in these financial statements are rounded to the nearest £.
Going concern
At the time of approving the financial statements, the Trustees have a reasonable expectation that the charity has adequate resources to continue in operational existence for the foreseeable future. Thus the Trustees continue to adopt the going concern basis of accounting in preparing the financial statements.
1.2 Incoming resources
Income is recognised when the charity is legally entitled to it after any performance conditions have been met, the amounts can be measured reliably, and it is probable that income will be received.
Cash donations are recognised on receipt. Other donations are recognised once the charity has been notified of the donation, unless performance conditions require deferral of the amount. Income tax recoverable in relation to donations received under Gift Aid or deeds of covenant is recognised at the time of the donation.
All other income is included in the accounts on an accruals basis.
1.3 Resources expended
Liabilities are recognised as resources expended as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to the expenditure. All resources expended are accounted for on an accruals basis and the irrecoverable element of VAT is included in the expense to which it relates
.
Charitable expenditure includes p ayments made to third parties in the furtherance of the charitable activities of the Trust. Grants are recognised in the accounts when paid or when the Trustees have agreed to pay the grant without condition. Charitable expenditure also includes support costs incurred regarding the provision and supervision of charitable projects. Support costs include governance costs represented by audit costs and other professional fees incurred in connection with the meeting of the charity's constitutional and statutory obligations.
1.4 Tangible fixed assets and depreciation
Tangible fixed assets other than freehold land are stated at cost less depreciation. Depreciation is provided at rates calculated to write off the cost less estimated residual value of each asset over its expected useful life, as follows:
