REPORT OF THE DIRECTORS YEAR ENDED 31st MARCH 2021
The directors present their report and accounts for the year ended 31st March 2021.
The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the accounting policies set out in notes to the accounts and comply with the charity’s governing document, the Charities Act 2011 and Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland.
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
OBJECTS

a) to advance the Christian faith in accordance with the statement of belief appearing in the schedule hereto in such parts of the United Kingdom and the World as the trustees may from time to time think fit and such other purposes which are exclusively charitable according to the law of England and Wales and are connected with the charitable work of the charity.

b) to further Christian education in such parts of the United Kingdom and the World as the trustees may from time to time think fit.

c) to relieve persons who are in conditions of need or hardship or who are aged or sick or to relieve distress caused thereby in such parts of the United Kingdom and the World as the trustees may from time to time think fit.
Skylark International Community (formerly Christian Growth International) is governed by a Memorandum and Articles of Association since incorporating on 17th February 2003 and was administered by a Board of Directors over the year, as listed on page 1.
AIMS
To empower, equip and support the Skylark International churches and ministries, as well as the wider cities and communities they serve, making them a healthier place to live spiritually, mentally, emotionally and physically.
To plant churches and develop new ministries, events and projects in line with our charitable objectives.
To provide assistance, training, tools and resources to churches, individuals, organisations and ministries.
To support and invest into leaders so that they might positively shape and enrich their sphere of influence both locally and globally.
PUBLIC BENEFIT
The charity acknowledges its requirement to demonstrate clearly that it must have charitable purposes or 'aims' that are for the public benefit. The directors confirm that they have paid due regard to the Charity Commission guidance on public benefit before deciding what activities the charity should undertake.

CORE ACTIVITIES
CONFERENCES & EVENTS
Skylark International holds an annual women’s conference, Be, which is attended by approximately 400 women from across the country (see page 3 for more details). We also hold a conference called “More” every other year, which is designed to equip and empower individuals across our churches, ministries and volunteer teams to receive input and training, as well as access to inspirational teaching and valuable resources. This year both conferences were moved to an online format due to COVID restrictions. This proved a very positive experience for all involved and enabled a wider sphere of uptake.
LEADERSHIP TRAINING & SUPPORT
Across the calendar year, Skylark International hosts several day events designed to equip, resource and support those in senior leadership and their core teams. We also hold a 48-hour leadership retreat exclusively for Senior Leaders every other year. This is a strategic time away for church, charity and ministry leaders to receive training, encouragement and peer mentorship.
HUDDLES
Skylark International continues to run its leadership development forum called “Huddles”. These bi-monthly ‘Zoom’ gatherings include a short 10 minute TED-style talk followed by deliberate discussion and andragogy around specific themes. They have been invaluable for forging relationships and developing peer-learning within the network.
CHURCH PLANTING/ CHARITIES
Skylark International provides support, resources, assistance and covering for new church plants and charities - as well as providing a relational network and covering for existing churches and charities.
PRAYER CONNECT
Skylark International encourages an active network of prayer which helps bring cohesion to the network.
SKYLARK AMBASSADORS
Skylark Ambassadors are leaders who represent and embody our vision and values across a variety of different contexts, denominations and spheres of influence. Through mutual relationship, we encourage, support and resource our ambassadors in their leadership context, while being equally enriched and strengthened by the unique skills and experience they bring into the network.
MENTORSHIP AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
Skylark International provides ongoing leadership development and mentorship for those heading up churches and ministries.
RELATIONSHIP AND RESOURCING
Skylark International provides relationship and resources to church leaders, ministry & charity leaders as well as leaders in the marketplace, to better equip them in their roles and responsibilities.
BE
BE is a ministry to and for women and has had a main conference and other events attended by women in local churches, and beyond, together with women from all backgrounds with the vision of empowering women to be all that God intended them to be. Be Albania has now been running for 4 years - bringing leadership training and encouragement to Albanian women.

FINANCIAL REVIEW
Reserves Policy
The directors have considered the level of reserves they wish to retain, appropriate to the charity's needs. This is based on the charity's size and the level of financial commitments held. The directors aim to ensure the charity will be able to continue to fulfil its charitable objectives even if there is a temporary shortfall in income or unexpected expenditure. Free unrestricted reserves at the year-end amounted to £69,373 (note 13), which is considered adequate. The directors will endeavour not to set aside funds unnecessarily.
FUTURE PLANS
Over the course of this up and coming year, Skylark International will continue to equip and support the ministries, churches, charities and individuals across our network to positively transform and impact their communities and cities.
Skylark International will also continue its focus on leadership development. We will resource, connect and support leaders and individuals through training days, events, conferences , huddles and a bi-annual retreat. Skylark International will also continue to develop new ideas and initiatives for training and resourcing leaders.
Skylark International will continue to plant churches, develop fresh ministries and events and resource and provide assistance for churches, ministries and individuals both locally and globally. We will continue to provide a place of covering, connection and resourcing for charities - both locally and internationally. Specifically, we are in conversation with 2 churches and 5 charities who are looking to become part of the Skylark International Community.
RISK ASSESSMENT
The directors actively review the major risks which the charity faces on a regular basis and believe that maintaining the free reserves stated, combined with the annual review of the controls over key financial systems carried out on an annual basis will provide sufficient resources in the event of adverse conditions. The directors have also examined other operational and business risks which they face and confirm that they have established systems to mitigate the significant risks.

This report has been prepared in accordance with the provisions applicable to companies entitled to the small companies exemption.

I report on the accounts of the company for the year ended 31st March 2021 which are set out on pages 7 to 16.
Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner
As the charity trustees of the company (and also its directors for the purposes of company law) you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 (‘the 2006 Act’).
Having satisfied myself that the accounts of the company are not required to be audited under Part 16 of the 2006 Act and are eligible for independent examination, I report in respect of my examination of your company’s accounts as carried out under section 145 of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the 2011 Act’). In carrying out my examination I have followed the Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act.
Independent examiner's statement
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

accounting records were not kept in respect of the company as required by section 386 of the 2006 Act; or
-
the accounts do not accord with those records; or
-
the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of section 396 of the 2006 Act other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair view’ which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination; or
-
the accounts have not been prepared in accordance with the methods and principles of the Statement of Recommended Practice for accounting and reporting by charities applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102).
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the special provisions for small companies under Part 15 of the Companies Act 2006.
The directors are satisfied that the company was entitled to exemption from the provisions of the Companies Act 2006 (the Act) relating to the audit of the financial statements for the year by virtue of section 477, and that no members have requested an audit pursuant to section 476 of the Act.

1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES
Basis of Preparation
The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102), Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (Charities SORP FRS102), the Charities Act 2011 and the Companies Act 2006.
Christian Growth International is a company limited by guarantee and meets the definition of a public benefit entity under FRS 102. Assets and liabilities are initially recognised at historical cost or transaction value unless otherwise stated in the relevant accounting policy notes.
Income
Recognition of Income
These are included in the Statement of Financial Activities (SOFA) when:

the charity becomes entitled to the resources;
-
the Directors are virtually certain they will receive the resources; and
-
the monetary value can be measured with sufficient reliability
Income with related expenditure
When incoming resources have related expenditure (as with fundraising or contract income) the income and related expenditure are reported gross in the SOFA.
Grants and Donations
Grants and Donations are only included in the SOFA when the charity has unconditional entitlement to the resources.
Tax reclaims on Donations and Gifts
Income from tax reclaims are included in the SOFA at the same time as the gift to which they relate.
Contractual Income and Performance Related Grants
This is only included in the SOFA once the related goods or services has been delivered.

Gifts in Kind
Gifts in kind are accounted for at a reasonable estimate of their value to the charity or the amount actually realised. Gifts in kind for sale or distribution are included in the accounts as gifts only when sold or distributed by the charity. Gifts in kind for use by the charity are included in the SOFA as income when receivable.
Donated Services and Facilities
These are only included in income (with an equivalent amount in expenditure) where the benefit to the charity is reasonably quantifiable, measurable and material. The value placed on this income is the estimated value to the charity of the service or facility received.
Volunteer Help
The value of any voluntary help received is not included in the accounts but is described in the Report of the Directors.
Investment Income
This is included in the accounts when receivable.
Investment gains and losses
This included any gain or loss on the sale of investments and any gain or loss resulting from revaluing investments to market value at the end of the year.
Expenditure
Governance Costs
Include costs of the preparation and examination of statutory accounts, the costs of the Directors' meetings and cost of any legal advice to Directors on governance or constitutional matters.
Grants with performance conditions
Where the charity gives a grant with conditions for its payment being a specific level of service or output to be provided, such grants are only recognised in the SOFA once the recipient of the grant has provided the specific service or output.
Grants payable without performance conditions
Grants are only recognised in the accounts when a commitment has been made and there are no conditions to be met relating to a grant which remain in the control of the charity.

Support Costs
Support costs include central functions and have been allocated to activity costs categories on a basis consistent with the use of the resources, eg allocating property costs by floor areas, or per capita, staff costs by the time spent and other costs by their usage.
Fixed assets
Tangible fixed assets for use by the charity. These are capitalised if they can be used for more than one year and are valued at cost or, if gifted, at the value to the charity on receipt.
Depreciation is calculated at a rate to write off the cost of tangible fixed assets on a reducing balance over their estimated useful lives. The rates applied per annum are as follows:

Debtors
Trade and other debtors are recognised at the settlement amount due.
Creditors
Creditors are recognised where the charity has a present obligation resulting from a past event that will probably result in the transfer of funds to a third party and the amount due to settle the obligation can be measured or estimated reliably. Creditors are normally recognised at their settlement amount.
Going concern
The trustees consider that there are no material uncertainties about the charity's ability to continue as a going concern nor any significant areas of uncertainty that affect the carrying value of assets held by the charity.

Five employees (average headcount) were engaged in activities in furtherance of the organisation's objectives (2020: four). No employees received emoluments of more than £60,000 during the year (2020: Nil).
Two directors have been paid remuneration or have received other benefits from employment with or services supplied to the charity. The directors only receive remuneration in respect of services they provide under their contracts of employment, and not in respect of their role as trustees. The Empowerment Fund was created from a transfer from unrestricted funds and is to be used for Empowerment Fund awards.
The BE conference appeal fund represents funds given by participants at the BE 2021 conference for the work of Cherish Uganda.
