Hampton Community Sports Association Annual General Meeting - Chairman’s Annual Statement 2020/21

Introduction

As Chairman since December in 2005 I have seen many changes and improvements at the Hampton Sports Facility over 16 years and this is my last statement as the retiring chairman. In the 17 years with the HCSA, there has been success with various projects to improve community participation in sport and schemes to improve the quality of facilities provided.

I can look back with satisfaction on many achievements and HCSA team’s work in development implementing facility changes improving the variety of sports and recreation available to the community.

The HCSA itself has been in existence for 19 years enabling thousands of residents of all abilities, age and gender to participate in community sport and recreation. The HCSA team of dedicated volunteers has worked tirelessly to improved access giving up their free time to support and sustain sports participation in a growing community with 2000 users accessing the facility seven days a week.

There have been significant improvements to the facilities over the last year specifically the new lighting system, new fencing around the Astro- turf and new CCTV improving security around the facility. There has also been a series of new signs and notices to improve information for users accessing the facility. There is also additional storage for clubs and all lighting systems are now fully functional. The new lease is still awaited from PCC that secures the facilities in the community until December 2032 and a plan for lease payments is still awaited.

Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the access and use of the facilities due to national lockdowns and local restrictions from March 2020 to June 2021. HCSA implemented a number of changes to meet COVID rules to limit spread of infection and allow some form of sports activity for the community to access. This in turn has in short to medium term affected income streams but since lockdowns have been lifted income and participation in various sports is steadily improving.

Vijay: - Vice Chairman/Acting Chairman (October 20 to date) has supported me in my role as Chair and identifying opportunities for improvements and managing payment issues with services. Vijay has been a driving force carrying out maintenance tasks to keep the HCSA facilities in good condition including a recent community maintenance day. He also led the project for replacement of the CCTV and fencing transforming the appearance and the quality of the HCSA facilities.

Alan - His experience as an accountant has put the HCSA on a firm financial platform and as a trustee ensured decisions around income and expenditure follows a process of accountability. His support and guidance on all financial matters has been appreciated specifically during the pandemic.

Jay - Secretary who has done a great job of managing the invoicing administration and has kept the facility looking nice through her cleaning maintenance of the facilities. Jay has indicated she is standing down from her role at the AGM and personally I would like to thank her for the support afforded me over many years that has help sustain the HCSA. I wish her well in her future ventures and certain she will be a success in future roles.

Lee – As member has supported me in my role as Chair over many years offering guidance and advice to support the development of the HCSA into Active Hampton in 2016
