## **Report of the Trustees of Clwb Rygbi Dinbych/Denbigh Rugby Club for the year ended 31 January 2023** ## **OBJECTIVES** Clwb Rygbi Dinbych/Denbigh Rugby Club (CRD) is an amateur community club affiliated to the Welsh Rugby Union. Its Object is the promotion of community participation in healthy recreation, in particular by the provision of facilities for the playing of rugby union football for the benefit of the people of Denbigh and the surrounding area. CRD operates a Trading arm which is a separate entity and prepares its own financial statements and supports the Charity. ## **MEMBERSHIP** The Club has a total Membership of 385 and is open to anyone who is interested in furthering its purposes regardless of gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, religion or other beliefs. Cost of Membership is low compared to similar organisations taking the Socio Economic factor of the area of operation into account. Concessions are also available for some groups. ## **Number of Members** Playing - 54 Non playing - 101 Youth - 25 Mini/Juniors - 98 Teeny taggers – 24 Life - 70 Honorary Life - 5 Honorary Solicitor - 1 Honorary Vice Presidents - 2 Vice Presidents -6 ## **PLAYING** As we continue to come out of the global pandemic we have seen a return to a full Rugby season, this has started to bring the club back into a state of normality with participation numbers slowly increasing to pre pandemic levels. CRD provides facilities and participation for the following groups: Teeny Taggers age 3-6 Mini/Junior ages 7-16 Youth team ages 17-18 Senior Rugby 1[st] XV – National Division 2 North, 2[nd] XV – National Division 3 North Vets XV The functioning of these teams is only possible because of the large number of volunteers who act as coaches, team managers, first aiders and referees as well as background volunteers in a number of supporting roles such as catering etc. This year the Club has encouraged all of these to gain and improve qualifications by funding them on relevant courses. The outstanding success of the system has been the appointment of one of our referees, Ed Brown, as part of the officiating team at a WRU National Cup Final at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff. ## **FACILITIES** The Club has continued to improve its playing and supporting facilities by completing the construction of a gymnasium /fitness building adjacent to the clubhouse completing the upgrade of its large training area and making initial plans to upgrade the main playing pitch. ## **COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION** The Club’s motto is ‘ The Heart of the Community’ and its link with local primary and secondary schools has been strengthened by the continued employment of a Hub Officer - Aron Evans a former youth player in the Club, funded by the partnership between the Welsh Rugby Union , the Club and the local schools . His main function is to encourage the playing of rugby union during lessons and out of school hours and to encourage them to come to the Club. He has also organised age group tournaments for these youngsters at the Club. Other organisations such as the Urdd ( Welsh Youth Organisation) have also used the Club’s playing facilities for their own tournaments whilst the Welsh Rugby Union have used the facilities for training camps for five different age groups in the summer holidays. The North Wales Rugby Union also used the facilities for one of its Cup Finals. The Club has also made its other facilities available for other local sports clubs and organisations in the local community. These include the Denbigh Brownies who use the clubhouse for its weekly meetings whilst other organisation such as local businesses and the North Wales Police have used it for training purposes or meetings. Other local sports clubs who do not have their own social facilities such as the Denbigh Cricket Club have used the Club for meetings and social events. The Club and its members have also supported the local community by providing stewards and general assistance for such events as the Denbigh Show, the Denbigh Carnival, the Denbigh Fireworks Display, and the Denbigh Plum Festival. In recent months the Club has introduced a play area for children on match days so that partners of members can enjoy afternoons at the club. ## **CLUB DEVELOPMENT** The Club has been able to draw on the skills and experience of individuals within the membership which will help with the long term development of the facilities and is currently working to an agreed Development plan. The Club has operated efficiently throughout the year thanks to its hard working officers and members of the Executive Committee with three of its female members chairing three of the sub-committees. Much of the focus of the Executive Committee for 2023 has been developing and delivering the various components of the plan so as to work more coherently and cooperatively The Development team have now been in operation for over 12 months and **five key areas** were identified: **Clubhouse** - tasked with making recommendations to the Executive Committee with regards to the future use and design of the clubhouse to include potential income streams **Communication** - aims to improve systems of communications both within the Club and with the local community **Heart of the Community** - aims to increase the profile of the Club within the local community by even greater involvement **Links between Seniors/Mini Juniors** - developing a range of strategies to ensure greater consistency, clarity and cooperation between these sections. **Volunteers** - to establish processes which will help attract, maintain and develop volunteers within the Club ## **Structure - Incorporation** CRD is currently constituted as a Club governed by Members under the leadership of an Executive. In 2023 a proposal was passed unanimously to vest the current Charity into a Charitable Incorporated Organisation and is being guided by Legal advice in this process. ## **SUMMARY** The Club’s focus remains on creating a culture which rewards the attitude and application of players and members and how they contribute to the values of the Team, Club and the local community leading to a healthy and vibrant club that we and the local community can be proud of.
