**Objects:** (A) TO PROMOTE HIGH STANDARDS OF PLANNING AND ARCHITECTURE IN OR AFFECTING THE AREA OF BENEFIT;(B) TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC IN THE GEOGRAPHY, HISTORY, NATURAL HISTORY AND ARCHITECTURE OF THE AREA OF BENEFIT; AND (C)  TO SECURE THE PRESERVATION , PROTECTION, DEVELOPMENT AND IMPROVEMENT OF FEATURES OF HISTORIC OR PUBLIC INTEREST IN THE AREA OF BENEFIT.

**Activities:** Monitoring and commenting on planning applications. Liaison with local authority and railway companies over proposed developments. Lectures on relevant topics. Visits to other Civic Societies, conservation projects, historic towns and buildings. Maintenance of public gardens, community orchard and street floral displays. Organising Grange in Bloom competition and entry to Cumbria in Bloom.
