FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 OCTOBER 2023
The trustees who are also directors of the charily for the purposes of the Companies Act 2006,
present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 October 2023.
The trustees have adopted Ihe provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities.. Statement of
Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounls in accordance with the
Financial Reporting Stsndard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland IFRS 1021 (effective 1
January 2019).
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Objectives and aims
The object of Voices of British Ballet ('CompanV' or "Voices") is to advance the education of the
public in the study and undersianding of ballet, dance and related arts in their histori¢al, social and
artistic contexts.
Significant activities
Activities were primarily directed toward seeking funding and, within the limited amount of the
funds currently available, recording and transcribing inteNiews with figures within the ballet world
pursuant to the Objects of Voices. Plans are well advanced for public access to the interviews and
include both a website and separate facilities.
Public benefit
When planning our activities for the year, the Board of Trustees has considered the Charity
Commission's guidance on public benefit and our strategic plans have been developed to ensure
that we provide a public benefit and achieve the object set out in the governing document.
ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE
Charitable activities
Our Voices of British Ballet interviewing programme continues steadily and we re(x)rded Iwelve full
interviews in 2023. Throughout the year we also expanded our Voices of British Ballet podcast
series ready for release. As part of this programme we recorded 20 new introductions to various
podcasts. covering a range of 'voices' from various diff8rent times and dan¢e companies in 20th
and 21st Cenlury Britain.
We are going to release our first podcasts, together with our website, in early summer 2024. The
Timeline for th8 website, a detailed look at the development of ballet in Ihis country, will go live
later in the y8ar.
FINANCIAL REVIEW
Financial position
The Statement of Financial Activities of the Company is set out on page 5. This is the twentieth
year of existence. During the year, donations of £25,092 (2022: £44,355) were re￿iVed and total
resources of £27,600 (2022.. £42,787) were expended.
The lolal funds of the Charity at 31 October 2023 amounted to £8,668 (2022: £11,148). These
funds are held as cash on deposit at the bank and are used to fund the collection and recording of
interviews which will be put in a national archive. These funds are also used for the ongoing
development of Ihe Charitls website.
Reserves policy
The reserves policy is to ensure sufficient cash is available to meet the debts of the Charity as they
fall due, the expenditure of the charity is largely discretionary so can be flexed as a result of
flucluating income levels. The reserves policy and level of reseNes held is reviewed by the Board
on an annual basis.

Going concern
After making appropriate enquiries, the Trustees have a reasonable expectation that Ihe company
has adequate resources to continue in operational existence for the foreseeab18 future. For thi5
reason they continue lo adopl the going concern basis in preparing the fin8nGi81 statements.
FUTURE PLANS
Our VBB website was temporarily pul on hold during the Covid 19 pandemic. We plan to continue
developing il along wilh our interviewing programme.
STRUCTURE. GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT
Governing document
The charity is controlled by it goveming document, its Articles of Association, and constitutos a
limited company, limited by guarantee, as defined by the Companies Act 2006.
Recruitment and appointment of new trustees
The management of the company is the responsibility of the Trustees who are elected and
CO•OPted under the terms of the Articles of Association.
Risk management
The principal risks to which Voices is exposed have been identified and systems or procedures
exist to manage those risks.
The principal risks are those la) which 8ffect incoming resources i.e. donations and grants (b>
those which affect the availability of figures within the ballet world for interview. In particular, th8
programme of inteNiews and associated transcription and access facilities is limited by availability
of funding and accordingly financial commitments are only made within the limit of available
resources.

Independent examinerfs report to the trustees of Volces Of Brltish Ballet ('the Company,)
report lo the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the Company for the year
ended 31 October 2023.
Responsibilities and basis of report
As the charity's trustees of the Company (and also its directors for the purposes of Company law)
you are responsible for the preparalion of the accounts in accordance wilh the requirements of the
Companies Act 2006 {'the 2006 Act,).
Having satisfied myself Ihat Ihe accounts of the Company are not required lo be audited under
Part 16 of the 2006 Act and are eligible for independent examination, I report in respect of my
examination of your charity's accounts as carried oul under Seclion 145 of the Charities Act 2011
{'the 2011 Acl'l. In carrying out my examination I have followed Ihe Directions given by the Charity
Commission under Seclion 145(5) (b) of the 2011 Act.
Independent examiner's Statement
I have completed my examination. I confirm thal no matters have c4)me to my attention in
connection with the examination giving me cause lo believe:
accounting records were not kept in respect of the Company as required by Section 386 of
the 2006 Act., or
the accounts do not accord with those records., or
the accounts do not comply with the accounting requir8ments of Section 396 of the 2006 Act
other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is nol a matter
considered as part of an independent examination- or
the accounts have not been prepared in accordance with the methods and principles of Ihe
Statement of Recommended Practice for accounling and reporting by charities (applicable to
charities prepaiing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Stsndard

Act 2006 for the year ended 31 October 2023.
The members have not required the company to obtain an audit of its financial statements for the
year ended 31 October 2023 in accordance with Section 476 of the Companies Act 2006.

(a) ensuring that the charitable company keeps accounting records that comply with Sections
386 and 387 of the Companies Act 2006 and
(b) preparing financial statements which give a true and fair view of Ihe state of affairs of th6

ACCOUNTING POLICIES
Basis of preparing the financial Statements
The financial statements of the charitable company, which is a public benefit entity under
FRS 102, have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 102)
'Accounting and Reporting by Ch8rities-. Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to
chariti8s preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard
applicable in the UK and Republic of Ire5and {FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019),, Financial
Reporting Standard 102 'The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and
Republic of Ireland, and the Companies Act 2006. The financial statements have been
prepared under the historical cost convention.
Income
All income is recognised in the Stalemenl of Financial Activities once the charily has
entillement to the funds, It is probable that the income wll be received and the amount can
be measured reliably.
Expenditure
Liabilities are recognised as expendilure as six)n as there is a legal or constructsve obligation
committing the charity to that expenditure, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits
will be required in settlement and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably.
Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings
that aggregate all cost related to Ihe category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to
Particular headings they have been allocated lo activities on a basis consistent with the use
of resources.
Taxation
The charity is exempt from corporation tax on its charilable actimties.
Fund accounting
Unrestricted funds Gan be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion
of the trustees.
Restricted funds can only be used for particular restricted purposes within the objects of the
charity. Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for
particular restricted purposes.
