Chairman’s (Pastor’s) Report 2024/25:
Christian leadership expert John Maxwell says, "Small disciplines repeated with consistency everyday lead to great achievements gained slowly over time". We might say something similar about church life albeit on a weekly basis.
If that is true, and experience suggests that it is, 24/25 was a good year in which we consistently did what some may consider small disciplines.
Taken from our constitution, our charitable objects are: The advancement of religion, through:
-
the worship of God
-
the teaching and establishing of the People of God in their faith, outlined in clause 9 (“the Statement of Doctrine”)
-
the presentation of the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ to the peoples of Moorside, Oldham, UK
-
working for God elsewhere in the United Kingdom and beyond.
To promote, for the benefit of the inhabitants of Moorside, any exclusively charitable purpose in particular, but not exclusively, the relief of poverty sickness and distress and the advancement of education as the Executive Committee in their absolute discretion shall determine.
These objects worked out in several small disciplines, consistently applied. We held public worship each Sunday morning and pressed on with our Grow Group on Wednesday evening and developed the Tuesday afternoon meeting.
We taught our children in Fresh Kids and our adults though the preaching of the Word.
We helped to fill the pulpit at several local churches.
Church life is made up of a lot of small disciplines that go largely unseen. Keeping an eye on the church finances, attending deacons, elders and EC meetings, writing up minutes, keeping the pulpit diary, sermon prep, pastoral care, and music practice are just some of the activities that are essential to keeping the church doors open. Those who serve in this way deserve our gratitude.
In March we were able to express our gratitude for the life of Ray Jackson, someone who exemplified consistency and discipline with joy.
Perhaps the standout event of the year was an Alpha course, which started in January 2025. The program was well attended and two people told us that they had accepted Christ. It should be noted that this didn’t result in increased attendance in our meetings. However, we remain thankful that God alone knows the human heart, and for the success that comes from small disciplines consistently applied!
Pastor Terry Durose

Finance Report
-
CC reported that it has been a difficult financial year for everyone yet, while giving was lower than hoped, there was, still, a surplus of giving over expenditure of £22.98.
-
At the end of March 24 Fresh Church held cash funds of £31,228.
-
The Child Project fund shows nil balances. This fund was used for the Box of Hope project which is no longer in operation.
-
The Acts 435 fund shows a balance of £75.34 at the end of March 2024. The meeting was told that this full amount was spent on a welfare need in the community in recent weeks.
The meeting agreed to pass the finance report.
On the grounds that both the Minutes and Finance Report had been accepted by the meeting, the Annual Report for 2023/2024 was passed and will be submitted to the Charity Commission.
The meeting thanked CC & JD for their work.
Selection of Deacons
Janet Durose: (J&TD left the meeting) After a short discussion T&JD returned to the meeting and told that the meeting had agreed that JD should continue to serve on the Diaconate for a further term of 3 years. Nominated by BL. Seconded by MJ.

Ministry Reports
The following people gave brief verbal reports relating to 1st April 2023 to 31st March 2024.
-
SueL - Fresh Kids
-
Thanks to CC as a fellow class leader.
-
Fresh Kids are close to finishing the ‘Link it Up’ bible and plan to move onto ‘Diary of a Disciple’.
-
SL told the meeting that lessons can be difficult because there is only one child in regular attendance.
-
JD - Worship
-
Worship is not just about the ‘group’ at the front of the church; there is a whole team of people whose role it is to guide people into the presence of God in worship. The presentation of clear song words, along with smooth transition of slides, will ensure that the congregation can join in worship without distraction.
-
JD particularly noted Izzy who often helps by reporting our songs to CCLI.
-
During the last 12 months we have introduced new songs and also reintroduced some older, possibly long forgotten, songs.
TD gave an update on RJ. Ray is currently in residential care and is unable to attend meetings. As and when possible, TD breaks bread with Ray.
The Fresh Church constitution gives no instruction for what could be termed ‘nonfunctioning’ members. However, it is important to understand that Ray, an Emeritus Elder of Fresh Church, is, and will continue to be, a member of Fresh Church just as he continues to be part of the body of Christ.
Thanks: TD thanked everyone for their contribution to church life. Fellowship is spiritual, everyone brings something special with them. Many members serve the church in multiple roles and every role, from taking out the rubbish to serving in leadership, is important.
AOB: none
7:05pm TD closed the meeting in prayer
This is a true record of this meeting
